SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey guys, It's finally time to sell my 1996 Land Rover discovery. the reason i am selling is because i am currently enrolled at UGA, and will be graduating in December. that being said i currently live off campus and require the use of a car, but when i move on campus next year for the semester before i graduate there will be no need for a car, so it will save me insurance money, etc. i will also not need the car for summer because i am from barbados and will be there all summer. so i am looking to sell as soon as possible in order to have it sold by the time summer comes.
here is the info for the Disco:
1996 Land Rover Discovery SD
231,590 miles
exterior color: black
interior: tan, cloth
16' alloy rims
power windows, power locks
The bad
the car has many miles on it!
engine revs pretty high (like 2,000rpms) when in park or neutral.
front passenger window has come off runner and doesnt work
trunk door jus stopped working
the good
the car is really in great condition considerin its age
the car works really well for its age, have driven it from athens to atlanta recently as well as from athens to augusta on several occasions with no problems at all
COULD EVEN BE GREAT TO FIX UP FOR OFFROADING!
Price
$4,000.00 OBO
thanks for looking! :goodjob:
feel free to pm me!

This is a good price for a Rover guys! I used to work on these things. V8 and 4 wheel drive. Very nice for playin in the mud on weekends and riding to work in luxery.
Does it have the air suspension still or has a spring conversion been done?

Awesome, these things rarely have the air suspension still cause when it fails, lots of people opt to have a spring conversion done.
Good luck with the sale. These are really nice vehicles. Plenty of power, luxory, off road capability. It does it all.

Yes they do. But it is only in the rear. I have had a many of them come into the shop I used to work at and need compressors or have a blown bag, cracked line, etc. A lot of times, people say the hell with it and don't fix it, so they do a spring conversion which does't cost much more than replacing the compressor, so that is why. Now, Range Rovers, they are fun. I used to hook them up to the computer and lay em out and then raise em back up. Hell, some notches, a tank, better compressor. You could have some fun with a Range Rover.

I honestly don't think any Disco I [one] had air suspension...94-97, SD, SE or SE7...but not 100% positive.
I hired a railroad truck manufacturer (makes the wheels that go under the railroad cars) to make springs for me but after 6 months of no contact i cancelled the order, the 2nd pic shows the stock SD rear suspension with coils...

That one has been set up for off roading so a spring conversion was done. I personally know from working on them that they do but only on the rear, not the front. I never fully understood why but I guess it was supposed to just give a smoother ride.

Being that the sd was like the base model. It was probably an option. Just like the automatic transmission. In the sd, the manual tranny was standard with the auto has an option. Starting in 96, the disco's also started getting the nicer, smoother, quieter transfer cases. The motor they use was originally a buick motor.

(the 80's thunderbird supercharger bolts right up to it ;) ) Then 1996 was the first year of the 4.0.
The manual transmission was actually the option i believe, the only problem was it [manual tranny] was originally made for the 2.5 diesel in england and our 4.0 V8 would shred those gears like cheese...that's the only reason why i didn't get the manual.

oh yeah, as for the revving when in park or neutral....as in rev up and rev down or just a constant high idle? It's a vacuum leak either way and depending on the answer i know exactly where it is...
*edit*
Could be the idle air control valve but normally when that goes out it will idle extrememly low...or stall. You name it i've fixed it or replaced it on a Disco.

Yes and no. The auto was the optional one at first. The manual was standard in the sd. Key to that is the sd. The others had auto. It was optional until 96(when they changed motors) when I do believe it was flipped the other way around and you had to ask for a manual(which I also believe 96 was the last year for a manual in general). I agree with you on the 94-95 motors thing. I couldn't remember that one for sure, but I do believe you to be right. Either way, they are great all around vehicles.
Btw, you have a great looking rig too. I am glad to see pics of it actually getting used. :goodjob:

I had a english stage at one time for some reason...had a Triumph Daytona 955i, MG Midget, and the Disco named Lucas (for obvious reasons ;) ) all at the same time... I bought it with absolutely no intention of it being a soccer mom mall crawler :)
*bump for a good ride* ...and a perfect donor for a rock crawler :D

Cool man. I just pm'ed you about doing some off roading if you still have your rover. Other than that. We didn't mean to jack the thread but at least the people reading this learned some valuable info on rovers. :king: :)
Someone should pick this up quick!! :D
