Well like the title says, I want to hook up my iPod video to my car but I don't want to get the FM transmitter or an epensive docking device. I went up to Hifi Buys to see if they could do anything. They told me I could run a wire with 2 male ends at one end, and a headphone jack on the other end. They said I could hook it up to the Auxillary ports on the back of the head unit. I am wondering, are the 2 male plugs for Left and Right? And do you think this is what they were talking about?

those read and white plugs are pre outs, if i'm not mistaken they re only for signal going out. you'll need the headunit and then the second piece for aux in. you'll plug the two male ends from the cord into the aux in piece. then the headphone jack into mp3 player or ipod. to get the headunit out you depends on how they put it in the dash kit. if the dash looks how i think u might just be able to use a special tool that came with the headunit to pull it out. with my pioneer i have two L-shaped metal pieces you can slide in the sides and pull the headunit right out. not sure about alpine.

well i have no tools or anything that came with it. When I got it installed all i left with was the box with the case for the face in it. This is what it looks like, if this helps at all:

if you want your radio out...... look under the dash piece that goes around radio (the piece that includes your ac vents), up on the under side there are two screws, remove them and then if i remember right the whole center piece of dash snaps off ( its been a few years since i sold my 3rd gen eclipse).... once that piece is off you should be able to see the screws that hold the radio into the dash.... remove them and your good to go....... hope this helps

thanks for the instructions ill try that today. Yea i love hifi buys, they seem to always do good work. i had them install my subwoofers, amp, and head unit. using a box that i built. but the only problem i have with getting them to do this is they told me the wire would cost 20 bucks, i went to radioshack today and they have the same wire for 5.99. And hifi buys wants 40 bucks to install it. i dont think so.

ChrisG you were exactly right about taking off the front dash piece, with those two srcrews, thank you. I took a few pictures, and heres where i am so far. I am as far as i can go until i get the cables i need. If i only need one cable, then i can go to radio shack and get it and get it done today. but if i need that alpine adapter cable, then it will take longer (which i think i will need). On the back of the CD player, those two red/white plugs, say F and R on them, so i dont think thats what i hook into. the only thing left is the big black circle plug. which i will need that adapter for.

yes... the black circle plug is an Alpine AI Net plug...... you need the Alpine KCA121B to plug into there and it will give you the rca inputs you need.... then you just need an RCA-to-Mini plug cable..... at Hifi Buys they will have a nice quality one thats 3 meters long (so you can run it to the center console or whereever you want) they should run about $35-40..... those RCA plugs on the back of your deck now are Audio Outputs not Inputs..... those are for hooking up an aftermarket amp. hope all this helps
