yea so i was in psych class today, and we were talking about morals.

we were no where near religion, but i cna see how it got thrown into it.

so this girl just randomly says that athiests are immoral because they dont believe in a god.

so i raise my hand then decide i dont want to get into an argument in class.

the teacher then calls on me, so i say "i changed my mind i dont want to get into it"

then 2 mins later while we are still talking about morals the girl chimes in again saying that athiesm is a cult. i was like :wtf:

that girl is a fucking ignorant bitch, thinking she knows everything

I don't think atheism is a cult. To be perfectly honest, catholicism meets far more cult definitions then atheism, as does scientology etc. Don't even get me started on the numerous reasons.

To state that atheists are all immoral is ignorant to say the least.
This type of "christian" outburst is a reason why many people choose to be atheist...the Pat Robertson types and others follow this same pattern. I dont blame anyone for rejecting that as nonsense.

Ok I have one thing to say. I am a Christian and my husband is atheist. I dont look down on other religions and yes he gives me hell sometimes about my religion but its all out of love. And I can see where he gets some of the things that he believes arent right about my religion. With that said, this girl needs to have her ass handed to her and be put in her place.

You should make it known in class though that just because you believe in a religion, that does not mean that ALL of your beliefs follow that religion. There are different interpretations of ALL religions.

Whether that girl likes it or not, atheism is a religion, and has just as much right to religious freedom as Christianity. And not everyone has the same interpretation of it.

Actually that one's pretty easy. Christianity is a bunch of people united in a shared belief. Atheism is simply people who chose not to believe in one thing. That might not seem like a big difference, but think about it. Religon in general tends to be something that is central to a persons life and provides guiding principles on to live. Lack of religon has no such common thread.

Take as a crappy example, someone has a driver's license. We know they are at least 16, have at least a certain mental capacity, aren't blind etc... What about someone who doesn't? We know nothing about them other than they don't have a license. They could be 5, they could be 50. Maybe they don't feel the need to drive, maybe they can't pass the test. The point is membership to a group is a lot more telling than lack there of.
