Progress Of My Teg (timeline)

Well im going to try to update the progress of my teg everyday while its getting paint.

The trick is that i have to have the car done and put back together in 2 weeks.




3/20 Day 1
Only had about an hour and a half to work on it. I got the front end off, door panels, mirrors (test fit new mirrors), rear bumper, side skirts, rear valence piece, tail lights, door panels, and gas door.

3/21 Day 2

Took the passenger door off, sunroof, weatherstriping, door handles, and hatch off. Started to sand down the body, mask up sunroof hole, used body filler where needed. Hopefully by tomorrow night i will have some primer on it.

3/22 Day 3



I got the driver side door off, taped off quarter glass, taped off rear hatch area, scuffed up pass. side door jam, hatch jam, sunroof, more body filler, more sanding.

All thats left tomorrow is to scuff up driver side door jam, tape off driver side and passenger side door holes, tape off windshield, and it will be ready for primer. It will be primed by tomorrow night for sure.

Oh, and driving a car with no doors is fun :D

I would've gone with a charcoal like NH-536M or NH-629M OR for red's gone with the R-510 New Formula Red from the Zanardi edition and '00+ NSX or R-508P Monza REd Pearl from the JDM NSX :)

3/23 Day 4



Taped off the windshield and both door holes. Finished scuffing up the door jams, applied alittle more filler where needed, and primed it....

Now i cant do anything with the body until tuesday because my local paint store didnt have any durablocks (sanding block) and i couldnt find them anywhere so i had to order some off the web today. So now i just get to work on the hatch and doors.

Chris came down and dropped off a block for me...he took the paint back with him to the paint store to get it darker. Hopefully it will be what im looking for this time. I already blocked down the body, applied filler where needed, scuffed jams again, and now im about to go clean it and then seal and prime it. I'll have pics up by 8, but its going to look the exact same as it did last night.

3/25 Day 5


Well i got everything blocked down. Had a few low spots that needed a little bit more filler. Got that all fixed then sealed it. I'm not used to this sealer so i got a bunch of runs. Got those fixed then went to prime it and it all got fucked. Primer started cracking as soon as it started to dry. I think the problem is that it was too cold. So i just started working on one of the doors.

Tomorrow I should have the primer sanded back down, re-prime it, guide coat, and block it. Then the body will be ready for basecoat and clear. Which im going to wait for a warmer day and it cant be raining.

No pictures today cause im tired as hell and pissed. And it will just look the same as last night. I will def. have pictures up tomorrow night though.

3/26 Day 6




Well i got all the cracks out that happened in the primer and then started to prime it again and it cracked. Well i dedcided to try the new primer since i was use old primer. And yup, that was the problem. Im about to go back out there and sand the cracks back out then prime it tomorrow morning. So today was basically a waste of a day. Oh well.


Oh and i put a pic on the first page that my bro took the night before i started working on it.

oh, and if you cant tell...i got the cabinet, lol....i got it alittle dirty when putting it together. I ordered it around a month ago and its been on backorder. I was quite surprised to see it today lol.

3/29 DAY: Hell of i know






Body is almost ready for paint after mishaps. Shoud be painted tomorrow. 1 door is ready for paint and the other is almost ready. Got the paint back and it still wasnt what i was looking for so i tweaked it alittle to get that shade i wanted. First pic is of the spray outs i did. Left is original San Marino Red. Middle is after i got it tweaked by the paint shop (added like 5 different reds and alittle black. Right is after i tweaked it some more(looks really dark but it really isnt that dark). Thats what the paint is going to be now.

Here are pics after clear...something in my gun was clogged so i couldnt get the right spray pattern so i got a bunch of orange peel and a few runs...where normally i would of had very little to no orange peel and a few runs....oh well...and the mirrors turned out great...only a little run in one...sorry for the blurry pi of mirror.

4/1 DAY: who knows....




Just got done painting the piece between the tailights and bumper and the side skirts....i have the body put back together as much as needed. I will have pics shortly.

Tomorrow i plan on finishing the doors and hopefully the hatch to. Geth them ready for paint. Rear bumper is almost ready for paint.

Thanks everyone...im feelin a little sick today or something (may be the pollen). I got the numerous dents in the fenders worked out. Got the fenders primed and guide coated. Alomst done with the driver door. May have it primed tonight. All thats left is blocking the fenders and pass. door, prime driver door and guide coat/block it, and start working on the hood and hatch. The bumpers wont need a work so those will just be straight up prime/guide coat/block and they will be ready for paint. Already have the rear bumper sanded down. Chris is supose to come down tonight and help me so hopeful we'll get a good amount of work done. I already painted the fuel door and put it on and put the glass in the mirrors. I'll try to have pics up tomorrow night. Hopefully i'll start painting the doors then.

wet sand between what coats? My process is...body work, prime, block(mist spray paint over primer, wetsand with 400), then seal (2 coats) then base coat, then clear

It really depends on the car. Higher end cars will spend more time on the paint to make it look better. If you really hate the orange peel on your car you could just have someone wet sand it and buff it.

I need to get it resparyed anyway so I might just wait till then...I mean there is not too much wrong with the paint except for everyday 85SB road things like chips. now the major problem in my paint is my whole front bumper. Ever since that kid threw PVC pipe out of his car about 7 months ago my front bumper looks like shattered glass. I'm just going to wait until I have time and an extra car and try and prep the car myself for paint. Just need to learn how to do it lol.

Well i just finished the doors and hatch...i hate fucking bugs...you will see why when i post pics. But i think they turned out pretty good. I have to leave in a sec to make the hour drive back to my apartment cause i have class tomorrow at 8am...why we start this quarter on a friday, idk but its stupid as hell. Tomorrow i plan on painting the bumpers and door handles and possibly the hood. I'll try to get pics up tomorrow if i have time.

Almost all cars have some grade of orange peel. its on a scale of like 1-10 (10 being similar to the surface of the orange and 1 being glass) I believe most mass produced cars have some orange peel cause i think they're painted by a machine. My moms $50k STS has a good bit of orange peel. but for some reason my accord is a 1.5 aside from the swirl marks.

well didnt have time to paint the bumpers so im ridin around with white bumpers and hood for now lol. I should have them painted next weekend though. Had a little mishap with the door handles lol. So its sunday around noon and i just painted them and needed them to dry fast so i can put them on that night and leave. well i put them under 3 of those yellow lights you may be able to see in some of the pics, and damn, those bitches melted lol. The driver side was melted just alittle bit, but the passenger got fucked up big time. Luckily i bought a pair of 4dr rear handles off a teg awhile ago, so i repaced the passenger one with the 4dr handle and im getting a new driver side handle this weekend. I'll have pics up hopefully this weekend. I dunno if im going to paint the front bumoer yet because i can either get a new seat, or $200 towards 98+ front end with itr lip...havent decided yet. BUt i should have the hood and rear bumper painted this weekend.

yeah i would do that, but theres 1 problem, i dont have keyless entry. lol And if it ever fails i wouldnt be able to get in my car cause i shaved the key hole for the hatch too

nah its still just got white bumpers and hood...was too lazy this weekend to do it lol. Just ordered a new buffer, set me back a few. update, lol...just got around to painting the rear bumper and hood this weekend. The hood didnt turn out that great cause my gun got messed up and couldnt get the right spray pattern. Nothing alittle wetsanding and buffing wont fix. Everything else except the driver side door and fender has been wetsanded and buffed. Well on to the pics...

so thank god i still havent painted the front bumper lol. I hit a re-tread a little while back and it ripped the tabs in the lower portion of the front bumper, crushed the fender support, ripped out the fender liner, dented the fender, and ripped the tab on the rear bumper and the paint is all cracked where it hit. Sooo yeah....pretty gay. I think i may just get a 98+ front bumper and headlights before i paint. So if anyone wants to sell me one....lol....please.

what do you mean the tunk and trim pieces? From what ive noticed...the hatch looks darker than the quarter panels....why? i have no idea....mixed it all together in a gallon can. lol
