i did it with my old del sol... what did i think about it? well... it was an improvement

car was red... sorta.... was every shade of red and one door had a pinstripe... had faded clearcoat all over it and scratches and wel... frankly it looked like shit

i primed and did some body work and such......... then just hosed the sucker with some flat black

the "flat black" i went with turned out to be kinda grey to

mine old hatch was flat black... i used some kind of flat black bumper or trim truck/suv spray [like $4.00 a can]

definitely better than primer or multi-colored... didnt turn out too bad either

these are the best pics i have

yeah you gotta do several light coats.... and since it's flat it'll dry even as hell.... dries quick too (at least the kind i used did)

i was thinkin about doin this also. uproot, did you use a spray gun or just the rattlecan? and is it hard to wash when its dirty?? a lot of the guys on hondatech that rock the flat black use a sparay gun with john deere blitz black paint. i heard thats what a lot of the ol hot rodders use too.

yeah... i just used rattle cans... i was on a budget lol.... but as far as washing it.... i just usually hosed it down, never attempted to wash it, but the paint sealed pretty well.... the john deere paint sounds like that would work great

the john deere paint i believe you can get it at home depot or places like that. i found out on honda-tech so u might wanna check there. also, i think it is sold by the gallon only, no rattlecan. as for rattlecan i heard rustoleum satin black or krylon semi-flat does pretty good too. but it looks like uproots car came out pretty good with the bumper trim paint.

i know it was duplicolor.... and i think this is what i used.... [flat black in the middle]

I think this is the way to go if ur on a budget for paint but u have to be careful and not go to cheap because it will come out looking to crappy. like fatsax said rustoleum or krylon might be a pretty decent choice. good luck ...

man i would sooo do this, but the only thing stopping me is that the engine bay would still be red :( i take pride in a good looking engine bay and itd just look tacky a diff color than the rest of the car.

Halfwit
03-23-2006, 11:09 AM
yeah but the way my car looks now, having a dif color engine bay looks cool..lol and when the hood is up, u dont notice the red, only the redtop....lol
