Just got a Silver(silverstone grey, i believe) 1.8t GTI. Test drove one and a dealership and fell in love with the tq out of that little beast did a little shopping around and found a 2003 with 22k for $10K...the catch was it had been in a front-end collision but everything was replaced including headlights front bumper and fenders. I am learning very fast they are very differant than hondas, LOL. So, what are some pointers on making this thing a little quicker without drawing to much attention to it...Pics will be up soon.

BTW:Car is registered in a city that is emmision exempt, and no warranty

Ill be the second to say it...Chip, easiest 50+hp and 60-70lbs of torque you can get for $500. :goodjob: :goodjob:

Id say within the next 24hrs there will be a comment from Paul telling you to go GIAC for the chip from Eurotech so ill just say it first. Go to EPG and get chipped with GIAC. You can also look at APR (which I have, and love). Either or is great. Paul has put down some WICKED numbers with the stock turbo and a GIAC file ;)

Ya, Decker looks almost Identical to yours, Might be intrested in that intake and do you still have that BOV?

When you "chip", is this a chip that is pre-programmed or does it invovle tuning?
Does the chip just up boost and fuel or what? I do know it depends on the octane rating. I got so much homework to do.

Sounds like some easy power, I really can't imagine 60+ more ft lbs of tq.
Oooo Weee I'm excited!!!!!!!

I think Benwaballs has the SSK BOV for sale. Check:

Yeah. Tuning is something else. Chipping is chipping. Ups the boost levels, changes fuel timings, removes the shitty lag caused by fly-by-wire throttles, and some other things. It's definitely the most cost effective mod you can possibly do. I promise you'll love it.

Is there anyone with a Vag-Com? I am throwing a ESP light...the little Hazard Triangle with a "!" and a arrow around it. Can this lead to mechanical problems?

If its silver its reflex silver, if its gray its silverstone on GTI, platinum on jettas.
Great buy, and dont forget to check out the APR BBQ in Auburn Ala w/ all of us on April 1, Chips are on the low low then($500 for 2 programs typically), and DPs are also. ($250 for 2.5")

Is there a differance betwwen Traction controll and ESP? Can I still pull this code with the vag-com?

when the little light starts blinking at you while you're driving, it means your ESP (traction control) is working. If you push the ESP button and the light just remains on, the yuo've turned it off.

02and older have a diff system than 03s+. The older system can be vag-com changed to be off when cranked, and push button to turn on. 03+ ESP cant....yet.

No, It stays on all the time and pushing the button does nothing.

When the buttons pressed, an indicator doesnt appear on the dash? Is the check engine light on by chance?

No CEL's, The ESP light never goes off, I even disconneted the battery to clear the code but when I hooked it back up, still on. :(

yo traction control can be triggered by unbalanced wheels, maf, bad alignment, etc... i would stop by a EPG or a dealer to scan your car. :goodjob: (i never drive w/ mine so it isn't a big deal)
