It won't, and shouldn't happen with the PS3, because you can't preorder it (it's first come first serve, so nobody is going to be hording the systems for crazy profit, and it's not coming out during the holidays.

More than likely will be holiday time actually. Sony hasn't given a set date yet, but all the launch date games are listing October as their release dates. So judging by that it's gonna look a lot like PS2's launch with games coming out mid October and the system in late October. Of course Japan's projected date last I heard was end of May sometime for the system launch.

I think it's going to be around $500-$600. With the projected cost being around 800-900, anything lower than $500 would bankrupt them. The Nintendo Revolution is where it'll be this year. Can't go wrong with $199 :)

According a an article published in the May 17th edition of Japan's Mainichi Shimbun, the PlayStation 3 could be one of the most expensive mass-market videogame consoles ever created. Officials from Sony apparently told the newspaper that PlayStation 3s would sell in Japan for "less than 50,000 yen each." That translates to about $465 US dollars.

The beast of a machine utilizes the powerful Cell processor, a custom-designed graphics chip by NVIDIA, and 512MBs of RAM for a quantum leap in performance. The system will also be the first-ever to support high-def movie-playback out of the box, taking advantage of the upcoming Blu-ray Disc format.

Sony claims that PS3 will be roughly 35 times more powerful than PS2 (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/615/615745p1.html#). If Mainichi Shimbun is correct, gamers will be asked to pay a hefty price for the high-end functionality.

That article is also about a year old too. Meaning in that year the cost of parts has more than likely gone down, and Sony has been making quite a few changes to the system anyways. We wont really know anything solid until this May at E3, Sony seems to be refusing to give any info.

Hyper50, I did the same damn thing haha. I was gonna hold off til my boys at Gamestop said, it's looking like launch is gonna be in October, I cracked and got a 360. If you do get the 360 then I'd def. recommend Fight Night round 3. :goodjob:
