hey guys. i found a 92(maybe 93) eclipse in south ga for $500. only problems (supposedly) are it needs a rear main seal and motor mount. so:
a.) about how much would it cost to get these two problems fixed
b.) with the rear main seal bad, how likely is it something else is wrong too
and
c.) is it worth buying if everything else checks out
thanks in advance

would not be expensive if ur doing yourself, but, there is a big chance of other things going wrong

yeah. a friend told me that the only two things that make the rear main go out is milage and driving it hard as hell. and with it needing a motor mount too. the car is two hours away and he wants 450 plus id be paying alot for tow, then from what i keep hearing 400-500 in labor, so i dont think its really worth that much considering something else maybe wrong

to replace a rear main seal u have to drop the tranny and take the clutch and everything out. what could happen if its not fixed is that oil could get on ur clutch and then u have bigger problems, but if ur good with ur hands and cars and have the right tools its relatively simple stuff, at least the motor mount should be. if its a manual the rear main seal would be easier and if uve done a couple trannys in ur day it may take u a couple hours for both. u may think about just replacing the clutch and pressure plate, throw out bearing, resurfacing the flywheel, and replacing the pilot bearing if it has one. is it AWD or just front wheel drive?

just front. i figured at first it would be a good buy then i heard that rear main was a bitch from a few people. the guy who has it said it needed 400 parts and labor(250 to do rear main) and when i told my mechanic that, he laughed and said where. sooo...worth getting or no?

I would but I do my own work, so i think that is a pretty good deal.

if its in good condition then im with durtyspeed and say definately, but only bc i do my own work too. we also need more info on the car to make a good decision, but motor mounts and rear main seals just go bad. where are u located b18hatch? im sure someone, if not me, is willing to do some sidework for cheap, if u trust us :D
