I've heard of crankwalk issues with 2Gs (95-99). Check out club3g.com for more opinions other than my own. However, I have never had the slightest hint of trouble with my '01 GS. The 4G64 motor (3G Eclipse, Galant, Neon SRT-4) is extremely reliable. For 6 months I ran 9 psi, now pushing 18 psi boost through it without the slightest hint of issues. On club3g there are documented cases of stock blocks pushing 360hp and people who Force feed the car past 100k miles (mine is at 88k now).

People hate on the 3g, and some of their opinions are quite true, it's hard to tinker with, parts are less available than 2gs, no AWD models, etc. But I think most will agree that the engine will be the least of your worries so long as it is properly maintained.

I haven't heard anything about 2g or 3g eclipses throwing rods. You reallly shouldn't rev an eclipse past 6600 RPM anyway. The only issue that the 2g's have is the crankwalk issue. It's not a big issue since it only affects a small percentage. But like goat said, w/ the right maintenance, the engine willl run good for a while. I always make sure to change oil on time w/ the good shit, good plugs n wires, etc.

Also, for the record, 3Gs are rev-limited between 6100-6500 rpm. Usually around 6200 (mine is 6200)

It is WAY easier to make awesome power gains on a factory turbo car, versus a factory NA car. For instance, on pretty much ANY turbo car, all you need is:

manaul boost controller (anywhere from $25-100)
downpipe/exhaust ($350-800)
piggyback fuel computer ($150-300)

Those three things on a turbo car can easily net 30-100hp, depending on the appilcation. Good luck squeezing anywhere near that much power out of an NA car for that cheap, without using nitrous.

For a 2nd Gen Eclipse/Talon turbo (95-99), you can probably score all of that stuff for like $500-700. It's all easy to install, and if you get the car professionally dyno-tuned (usually around $150), you can easily have all the extra power while maintaining fuel economy and reliabilty.

Plus, a 95-99 Eclipse will be a cheaper car to begin with (than a 00+ Eclipse).

another question:
where can you find a four-wheel disk brake conversion for the 00+ eclipse?? cause i drove it today and it's gonna need new brakes anyway.. so i might as well go all out.. you know??btw it's sport shift..

1 more thing.. how much would YOU pay for a 01 eclipse GS with sport shift this is whats wrong though
-needs tires
-needs brake job
-door doesnt slowly open it just like flies open (needs new hinge?)
-and it makes a noise in the rear end... think it's the CV joint...
so how much would you pay??

I paid (including financing) $14k 17 months ago to a Mitsu dealership with a warranty for my '01 Eclipse Spyder GS. Now I believe the KBB value is around $8k-$9k (I shoulda bought an '00 for the right spot on the price curve, but that's another story). you should be looking at less than that if you're buying it from a private seller, especially if it needs obvious work.

Brake conversions: (I'm in the middle of this myself, got rear discs in my garage waiting to go on).

It depends on how far you want to take it
Rear discs you can find parts in 2 places:
Club3g.com Automotive For Sale threads
M&S Recycling is (http://msrecycling.com/cars_mitsubishi_eagle_chrysler.htm#Area%20Eclipse_ Laser_Talon) is where I bought my backing plate w/parking brake (~$80) after getting calipers from a club3g member (~$100)
I also strongly recommend Road Race Engineering (http://roadraceengineering.com/) for Stainless Steel braided brake lines (~$80)

Any 00-05 will work for Rear discs, also 2G non-AWD DSMs have the same backing plate and calipers. Read up more on the swap on club3g (http://www.club3g.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17421)

Front GT Dual-piston Caliper Discs
The catch here is that there are 2 different calipers for the '00 and the '01-'05. The later calipers are smaller and cheaper, everyone strongly advises the '00. The real nastiness is that rotors for 1 do not fit rotors for the other, so know which ones you get. Again, you can try to find somebody selling front calipers on club3g, but people really pounce on those (especially '00 calipers) and alot of the time, people ask way too much money for them, might be easier to buy new (I don't suggest trying junkyards, GTs are rare finds, and finding a '00 is about a 1 in 6 shot).

Rotors and pads are available either from any source as normal, if you want slotted rotors and performance pads, I recommend this group buy by Performance Parts Store (http://www.club3g.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25719) these people do lots of good stuff to bring aftermarket to a car that doesnt get much aftermarket at good prices.
'00 Powerslot Rotors and Hawk pads $375 shipped front and back.

Other common upgrades for the 3g:
Polyurethane bushings available at Road Race Engineering
Performance struts and Lowering/Performance springs available through a PPS group buy
Suspension Techniques Rear Sway Bar
Strut tower braces for coupes

I drive the sport shift as well, it's quite nice, if you do decide to go FI, you will need to have an Import Performance Transmissions rebuild kit installed to tighten tolerances. The kit, local store installing the kit, modifying my Torque converter, then sending the valve body to IPT for modification ran me about $3200. It was an unexpected expense of FI to me, so I pass on the information to you.

Any questions, anything else I can answer or explain (to the best of my ability) just PM or post. I'm no expert, but I've been working on this thing for a while and am happy to share my experiences with it.

Some people are installing Brembo Evo kits, I'm not sure what's involved in doing so.
