If I'm in a rush I run it through the self service wash, with the suspended hoses and whatnot, and usually spend about $15 by the time it's all said and done. When I'm not in a rush, hand wash and wax is the only way to go. When I have a car worth washing, here's the wash schedule:

1st weekend of the month: Wash and wax, take trash out of interior/trunk, spray down engine bay.

2nd weekend of the month: Wash, swirl/scratch remover coat, wax, take out trash, spray engine bay.

3rd weekend of month: same as 1st

4th weekend of month: Full out detail. Clean and detail engine bay (which includes pulling off the valve cover to touch up any polishing that needs to be done), remove wheels, wash and polish wheels, clean brake rotors and calipers, which may also include re-spraying gloss black on the calipers, wash fenderliners, put wheels back on, wash undercarriage, then go to the top.. wash, swirl/scratch remove, and wax the entire car, spray coat of quick detailer on, clean windows with window cleaner, put gloss on headlights/tail lights, back to black on all rubber, silicone grease on seals, vaccuum interior, wash interior carpet and floormats, spray smell good stuff, armor-all the vinyl, Ummmmm.. what am I forgetting... oh yeah... can't forget the tire shine. :D

Takes me about 8 hours to do the once a month detail, but it's well worth it. :) Car always looks amazing.

No one else touches my car when it comes to cleaning. I don't trust the people around Athens. Dirty sponges, old chamois, ratty towels... not things I want near my baby!

Hand wash and porter cable wax is the ultimate way ;)

I hand wash and wax, and detail cars 8 hours a day. all we do is hand washes.

I always wash my own cars. I treat my cars like my women and I don't want another guy fondling my woman. So I'll be DAMN if I let one fondle my car!!!

there is no way i would let someone else wash my car at a car wash. they washed 400 other dirtbag filthy cars with the same mitt.

not many people know this... but we have a "new mitt" at my detail shop that has only been used on like new or luxury cars. if they request new mitts we will only use new mitts and brushes.

The last car I washed was 6 years ago when I had a stealth. After that I havent had a car with a clear coat still left. I never wash my cars, though heavy rain keeps them somewhat clean.

Hand wash at least once a week using only a clean microfiber cloth, no wash mitt or sponge....fill up a bucket with hot water from the sink, a rubber band around the sprayer works well since buckets normally won't fit under the facet. Fill halfway+ and pour in car wash soap then top off bucket. Hand wash then let the the water hose pour like a waterfall off the top down the sides, seldom ever use a sprayer.

During the week i'll go to a wash bay if it's really dirty but only if i have an extra microfiber with me...high pressure soap to rinse off the grime then go over it again with the high pressure soap while wiping it down with the cloth. If i don't plan on using the microfiber again i'll wipe the wheels down last with it then a quick rinse and sometimes a little spray wax.

I never dry the car anymore, it's just one more thing to scratch the paint...i'll let it dry, water spots or not, then always go over with quick spray detailer and a clean microfiber an hour or so after washing.

All exterior rubber/vinyl trim gets wiped down at least once a week with Armoral wipes or Mothers vinyl & plastic shine...the same stuff the interior is wiped down with every few days. Tires gets the same treatment but wiped again afterwards to take the shine away...for the clean but not "i just shined my tires and trying too hard to make it look like a show car" look

That's happened a lot...it happened with the weed thread too.

Anyway, I was/wax my own. I'm OCD about keeping my car clean and hey...if you want something done right, you do it yourself!

r71 owns Auto-Glo, so I always take the cars over there and have his guys clean them. It saves a ton of time and is a lot easier than dealing with these outdoor watering bans.

Damn how do you people have lives if you're taking 8 hours every weekend to wash your car? Shit, I wash my daily driver like once every 2 months. I also have a Fiero showcar and I only wash it every month (it never leaves the garage anyways...). And the last time I waxed the show car was last year. I've never waxed my daily driver.

And yeah I prefer to wash the cars myself. I just do such a better job. Although, Carnett's Car Wash (I think that's what it is) down on Austell Rd. does a VERY good job, they get the car as clean as I do and it only takes 1/2 the time.

It takes me about three hours to do a good wash/wax. Maybe three and a half if I want two coats of wax.

So your saying you use a "new mitt" on a filthy luxury car but not a well maintained civic. Dirt is dirt and it doesnt matter if it comes off a $100,000 car or $500 beater it is still dirt and will damage the paint.
