what factors determine what type of power (most power) a car makes on pump gas.

the reason why i'm asking is because i've seen turbo s2k make crazy hp numbers on pump gas and i've seen other turbo cars with bigger displacement make less.

I don't, I think he just put the red "H" emblems on there and it gave him 120hp boost... :)

Tuning ability is the most important factor. You need to know the limits of your internals and the stability of your gas.

That was a half ass answer.

Pump gas has a lower octane rating. The higher the octane, the more resistance to knock.

On a motor that is strung out already like an s2k you don't need incredibly high octane to get big numbers. The motor has high compression and on most of those turbo setups that don't lower the compression the turbo is smaller and it works out.

Isnt the compression ratio much higher on the S2000 though?

lol yeah.

Speedminded, that doesnt have to do with octane rating and why an s2000 can make alot on pump gas..

sr20det is 8.5 to 1(8.3 in the pulsar is even better) compression. Lower compression = better for turbo. Also its 202hp at the break. Not 160. ;)

Higher compression (s2000)= Lower boost, more power result because of the strung out motor.240 at the break, not at the wheel, with much high compression.

Now, you can turn up the boost substiatially with an SR stock because of the compression. Once you've turboed an s2000 you cant boost up unless youve built it.

Lower compression-1g DSM 7.8 to 1 compression. Slap a big turbo on and go. Thats why most 6 bolt 4g's can put out alot of power with stock internals.

Smae with the turbo buicks. With that setup the pigs can just turn up the boost substantially before cracking open the valve cover.
