well i've narrowed my car search down it will most likely be a swapped eg or a 5.0 ya a stupid ford lol what do you guys think i kinda want the mustang since my dad knows about pushrods and he would be into it with me but i kinda want a hatch for the handling and the meets. does anyone on here happen to have a 5.0 mustang i am wondering how good they can handle. oh and do any of you guys hang out with 5.0s what do you guys think ? (sorry i know everybody hates these post but ya know)

I have a 1992 LX 5.0. Handles like shit compared to my RX7, but it's very cheap to change the suspension. Lots of suspension kits are available for it. Check out www.maximummotorsports.com and www.hotchkisperformance.com for suspension parts.

they handle ok for stock but yeah like david says there a lot of upgrades available. I'd choose the 5.0 over the EG simply for the fact that i don't care for FWD cars.

For what you want Id say I guess the Honda.

I mean 14s isnt that hard to hit and for the mountains....Civic would be a little easier to toss around up there.

Yea i wouldnt take anything over my eg... Its cheap to make the eg fast also. Its really gonna come down to what you like... It didnt take much to run my time in my sig and it is the best mtn car i have ever had{thanks to zenies and omnipower full coilovers}as it is light . If you get the eg get one with a h22 and youll have tq like a larger motor. NOT SAYING THERE ISNT ONE ..BUT i have never lost to a 5.0 at commerce that wasnt all caged and hauled up there. My car is almost stock other than the swap....Like i said what you like is what its gonna come down to..

5.0 is a plus cuz of the whole dad in on the project

Well, you already got my opinion when you PMed me. But figured I'd add that since your dad would be willing to do more work with you on it if you got the stang, that'd be the deal breaker right there... That'd be some good quality time.. Only thing that worries me is your so young (and I'm assuming unexperienced) so having a high horsepower rwd car might not work out too well... but as long as you are mature enough to drive it like a civalized person (most of the time), my vote definatly sticks with the 5.0. Bang for the buck, it can't be beat.

They make great daily drivers and the motors are very reliable if taken care of and will easily last up to 200,000 miles. An 87-93 5 speed car should run mid 14s@95-96 bone stock with a good driver. If you get a car with 3.08s you can knock a few tenths of that. Add a kn filter, bump timing,Off-road Hpipe and you should hit 14.2s or better.

As far as mountain driving or open track stuff you will definitely need some upgrades. The brakes are marginal but you can upgrade to the later 94 and up stuff with is better and you can do rear disc brakes or even Cobra front brakes which are 13 inch front/11 inch rear. I would put a good set of struts/shocks/springs and some good tires and it should be fun in the turns.

go with 5.0 cause of dad in less u can get a hatch with a k20 or some thing big like that then the hatch cause i heard that a k20 eg runs 11 with very little mods

green91

for mountains id pick the hatch, hatches with a little suspension work are like go karts. for drag speed and sound and overall cool factor, go with the 5.0

My brothers 5.0 coupe ran 7.2 at 97 mph at dallas with a set of ported gt40heads a cam and 100hp nitrous kit. Thats a very low 11second maybe even a 10second timeslip.

If you want it to handle, check out Maximum Motorsports, or Griggs Racing. If you pick up a cheap fox and throw one of the Maximum motorsports track kits on there, you wont find many things that can touch it.

5.0 all the way. I can't find a mustang, so i am putting a 302/t5 out of one into a first gen Rx7 LoL. Mustangs are great fun, and pretty reliable too, especially when mostly stock.

if u go with the 5.0 please don't get a 94 or 95!!! my best friends dad is a member of SVT of america and they have track(road course) days and the late 80's and earliy 90's 5.0's do pretty damn good out there. they still don't post better time than my boy's 2000 civic si though :)

um...who said a thing about a b..lol...I have a h22 and it does the best on gas of any car i have ever had.. I still run a low 13 on street tires and get 30+ miles to the gallon, even if im racing ..lol...

a stock 5.0 doesn't make 30mpg.... i'm assuming since he's considering buying a v8, fuel economy isn't the biggest factor in his mind.

There will always be somebody faster.

Go with the 5.0. You can make it handle very well as people have said, and the motor has great potential.

With the Honda, a motor swap is mandatory if you want to go fast, might wanna check the price of a motor swap and add that into the cost. All these guys are talking about their "fast" Hondas but all of them have motor swaps. Slap a 150 shot on the stang and you'll own most cars out there.

i like both the 5.0L mustang is so much more simple to make modifications and have been modified for so long parts are every where and low in price 5.0 s love nitrous and can take a good amount of boost on stock motors. hell take a stock 5.0 do a cam swap good headers, rear gears, and good suspension upgrades and maybe a 100 shot for the strip and thats serious fun and will last you a good while. check out the turbomustang forums and see for yourself there are guys making big power with little cash spent and keepin it reliable and simple. on the other hand building a hatch that will smoke a built mustang or even hang with one is satisfying in its own way. i remeber blowing a few stangs away and T/A s in my old hatch.
damn i want another hatch.....but i love the sound of a 5.0L ford with a nasty cam oh what to do....what will my next car be

thats probably mark van meters car. I think it has run 7.0s@200 in the 1/4 mile. Steve Petty of proline built the motor in that car and they tune it over at prospeed on their dyno.

I say hatch...ten times lighter than the 5.0 and although both can be insanely fast, I think its cooler to see a hatch run a 10.0 second 1/4 mile at over 160mph..it surprises so many people that don't know about hondas. But a 5.0 would not be bad either..I'm not against them at all, I'm just more a honda fan. But good luck in whatever you decide on.

My first ride was an 89 5 speed GT Mustang. Great platform but there is alot to fix if it is still stock. Rear drum brakes, needs alot of chassis bracing.
