hey guys, sorry to even bring this up but i plan on building one. i just want to know if i keep the internals stock (b20b) and put a gsr head on it, what can i rev up too? i got a gsr now but i never rev up to 7500 now LOL. i like the mid range power better. will i have any valve clearance problem using the gsr head on the b20b block?

I also heard that if u use like B17 crank and ls eagle rods, u get a better stroke ratio? can someone enlighten me on this subject? I just want a reliable motor and can rev to 7500 rpms. lmk thanx in advance

its ok to but a GSR head on a B20 bottom..the only thing with a b20 block that its not ment to high rev..

im not to fond of high revin now with my gsr. i rather stay under 7k anyways. thanx

itll be fun cause itll give you TQ, however, it does not like to rev out as the other guy said.

keep it at 7800rpms and itll last

i personally perfer the ls/vtec over the b20,i've seen the blocks crack first hand.

well your the 1 guy out of 1209102901920910290 guys that got lucky.

the B20 uses the LS crank and rods, which have WEAKER rod bolts, and WEAKER rods. the tensile strength of the rod bolts (which is an 8mm opposed to a 9mm GSR rod botl) is much less. they WILL fail at high RPMS. they also use a wider bearing than the GSR, designed for down low power, not high rpm power.

Anyone that knows anything about the B20/LS block will not reccomend revvign it past 7800-8000rpms. There might be the OCCASIONAL guy that revs his out to the "moon" that may have gotten lucky with it, but as a general concensus, it is not true.

the only thing that people talk about that is weak on a b20 is the sleeves. while they are not as strong as the other B series, they can still handle 9000RPMS and 12psi of boost, vs 20psi that a regular B series block is known to handle.

Cliff Notes: dont rev it out if you want it to last.

i will probably not do any kind of vtec conversion again, I mean i love it , its my first dohc vtec setup. but, the worry you get after getting on it sucks. sept in Mikes situation when you can build a complete race motor, then it dont matter.but in my case i get scared reving to high, like the other night, i hit 9100 rpms, missing a gear. :doh: i dont have a rev limiter i dont know why. but i guess ive been lucks caus ive had this block for a year, and the vtec head on since i think october. and reved it past 8k plenty of times, but i do know that the motor will go boom sooner or later, so no need on flaming me guys.

o yeah the next motor, it will just be a block that it is okay to rev to 8 or 9 and not have to worry,

So a b20b with a gsr head thats sleeved with forged pistons, rods, and apr studs. can with stand how many rpms?

u can rev as high as you can before you hear a "KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK" and sounds louder as you increase the rev :D


seriously though... you only want to rev up as high as you can to where you will land within your power band (best torque output) during the next shift.

but if its not built to handle the revs...only rev to stock rev limit
