Been to Sugar before. I remember that hill. Isnt that the only slope they have-lol?

Best bet on the east coast is to go to Snowshoe or Winterplace in West Virginia.

Nice pics though..

Nice pics though..it's the highest/longest slope in NC...still only takes me about 1 minute to get to the bottom :( But they have a another slope on the other side of the trees (standing at the bottom looking up it would be the farrr left) then you have the medium slope that comes down from the top instead going down the double black and then you can split off several places towards and past the snowboard park area. i also get back on the lift halfway down in the center so you don't have to wait at the crazy long ass lines at the bottom :)

Ski's arnt fasterlol, ohh reallyyy? how much you wanna bet i can ski BACKWARDS [while holding a camera] faster than just about anyone on a snowboard? I use long ski's, parabolics are 190-205+mm and i've used straight ski's up to 220mm. Do we have a challenge? :)

Tell you what, I can leave the lift at the top, and I will never cut until the bottom!

Tell you what, I can leave the lift at the top, and I will never cut until the bottom!yeah, but boards are short and slower...and i've done that at sugar and parts of cataloochee several times (especially when the big drop is too icey to cut) Do we have a race here?

RUSH

I was kidding about boards are faster, cause there not....

But, I can hold my own coming down a mountain!

Yeah Im game, I'll be at the looooch this saturday!i wanna see you go straight down the double black at cataloochee without cutting...I'll be at the bottom of the first run shortly to cut the tree down you're stuck in the top of  (i removed a snowboarder from a tree there once, i spent an hour building a jump and he hits it at an angle throwing him off the side of the mtn....he was stuck upside hanging from the board with his feet between two limbs....) :D

The best I can do at loochee, is leaving from the 3/4 lift on either side and not cut till the sharp right turn....
The top is to bumpy, if you know what I mean, and I do have to cut a few times up der!

prolly not screaming but laughing!lol, i was laughing when i went off the top at the looch...3 of us racing and i cut across in front of someone just as we were leaving the moguls and the last jump sent me flying....they saw hat, then they saw ski's, then hat again...then *BAM* i centered one of the plastic barrels protecting the steel hydraulic line sticking out for the snow blowers to hook up to....lol, i think it sounded worse than what it really was but still had a bruise all down one side of my rib cage...good times :)

I've never been skiing/snowboarding, and I really want to go. Is this place good? Close? How much is it to rent equipment? Anyone got any links?

With a small group i can get the best deals at Sugar and rent the equipment from the place i normally stay at...they have all new equipment, it's cheaper than the lodge at the mtn, and you no waiting in lines.

man that picture makes whoopdedoo look not so big ;). it looks gigantic from the bottom looking up. i like going down to the right, i think it's called boulderdash... and then the blue to the left is fun because you can play a lot on it with all the little jumps/drops off to the edges :).

On the far right it's fun just to get a "running" start and jumping off...sometimes you can make it feel like your not in NC, lol...until you land on the ice below anyways ;) I've done it in a blizzard several times where you couldn't see 20 feet below you :D

The left side is fun when there's not a million people sitting on the edges...like cutting the inside corner in the hair pin and jumping...hoping you can cut fast enough not to go off the outside edge

yeah, whoopdedoo is the bigass straight downhill with no moguls at all. you're right about the blue to the left, there are usually a lot of people that don't need to be up there trying to get down to the easier stuff and it gets kind of annoying dodging them... but i can usually make fun out of it :).
