Alrgith so i have been using regularunleaded for a while and was wondering does preium gas octan 89 actually that much better for ur car then regular. i know stupid ? but not sure like what it all does better. thanx

haha Anything less that premium in a boosted car would mean problems.

Anyway in your case, your car was designed to burn regular unleaded. Couple tanks of premium per year wouldn't hurt (clean out the system since 87 forms more deposits)

Even mid grade every now and then would be fine.

but you're fine with REG.

Unless the car is designed to fire on 93 Octane you are wasting your money. It will not make any difference on your motor if it doesnt require ot or if it cant fire the 93 like its meant to.

hmm...i have an h22 which i don't know the recommended octane for...usually in hondas it's reg. isn't it...after about a month of getting different octanes 2-3 at a time to make sure, i came to the conclusion that medium actually lasts longer and costs less than regular...premium lasted the same amount of time as medium...

Dont use anything more than regular unless your vehical manual says so. This point has been pounded repeatedly on the internet. You will not get any benefit running anything but 87 octane regardless of any year car that was not designed or intended to use it. Speaking for my car and I might speak for some others as well, with the new style PCM (late 99) have adaptive timing trim. (Well better then 98+ cars anyway) However it is not adaptive ABOVE the timing tables. It is designed so that the PCM compensates for variations in fuel quality in a range right around 87. (Roughly +/- 2)

The only other benefit to running, say 89 octane, in a car programmed for 87 is if you have pinging from carbon buildup and dirty manifolds. However this need for higher octane actually lowers performance and mileage. (i.e. efficiency) While 89 octane masks the problems the real fix is cleaning out the carbon and your manifolds.

Im sure its premium. I knew someone with an H22 prelude and read their manual one time and it indicated running premium.
