Yes, 4mbps is good. That should give you theoritically 400k a sec download speeds. How much are they charging? Usually cable companies are at the 6mbps mark, and I haven't gone below 600-700k a sec in most of my downloads. Sometimes I've gotten up to 800-900k steady.

Depends on what youre doing. If youre downloading full length movies, cds, games etc then 4 is good but as much as possible is preferable lol. Otherwise if youre just surfing and just downloading songs of something like limewire, then you most likely don't even need that much.

Just downloading of videos and such. Like if I want to download a video that is 20mg, will it be quite fast? My phone company/ISP is offering this to me at $19.95/month. Worth it? Later, QD.

Camcast is FAsSTer then DsL
I hate to agree with a guy with a lambo'd sk2 in his sig but he's right QD. Cable used to be very unreliable when it first came out due to the fact that you are sharing bandwidth with everyone else on your block. However, with the recent upgrades to the cable systems, there is nothing else I would go with over cable... aside from an OC3 but thats a diff. story.

thats slow. 4mbps.. 10bps bicthes.
Bellsouth DSL offers up to 6meg now which really syncs up at 8meg if you're close to the dsl facilities.. 12meg up to 24meg by the end of the year.

4mbps for $20/mo is a great deal. I would'nt use comcast if i had to. Any company that willingly logs users usage and gives the logs to the govt gets a big thumbs down from me.

Just FYI comcast charter and any other cable high speed is based off of bandwith. If all your neighbors have it and are downloading you have dial up but if no one around you is on you are lightning fast. For a steady speed of DL rates then go with DSL or T1. With DSL all you will be able to utilize is roughly 2.3 mb download due to the base model routers most people run at home. To fully get the 4 mb DL rate you will probably want to step up your router. The bellsouth netopia routers and even the westell they give out are absolute crap, bridge the ethernet connection and use a highend netgear or a cisco

Unless you're talking about modems that were sent out a year or two ago that is far from correct on the speed. Bellsouth only offers Netopia routers to Business customers and the Westell Versalink router is what Bellsouth offers now

(which is VERY nice btw.. much better than anything else I've used)

THe netgear that u buy at best buy there green 91 are not the netgears that im talking about, i have 320 client sites that all use the top of line netgear hanging of a cbeyond t1 and have max speed, but you keep speding the 60 bucks on your lynksys or other cheap shit

if you trust in netgear go ahead they are only a step up d-link or delinked . i would go cisco and linksys since they are the same...
