I have a 91 240 fastback or hatchback (your choice) and i have the stock KA with 152,000 i want to do a turbo app. but i'm not mr. money bags, i'm still in high school, senior. I was wondering if anyone could tell me a decent turbo setup that's not to expensive.

i got you covered here man...
ypu'll need a turbo, turbo manifold, piping for the intake, downpipe, engine management, injectors, an ugraded fuel pump,
and some dyno tuning time.
i looked into it for my altima (KA24 as well) but that would be running only like 4psi

how much money can you spend when you say you're not a money bag? Usually the turbo KAs that blow are the people who do cheap turbo set ups... let's face it, good parts cost money, buying used/questionable parts might end up costing more. i think $2500+ can get you a good relaible set up if its done right, anythingless I would be wary... do asearch on nicoclub.com, zilvia.net, FA, most of the cheaper turbo set ups end up going kaboom.

why would you stick with the ka when it has 150k. im in the same situation but am getting a ca18 (price) i would look at all the options be4 bolting a turbo to the ka esp. when the motor has 150k on it. just my 2 cents

^^^ i would get an sr20 or even an rb25 but guess what i dont have alot of money and i can get a ca18 for 1,200. point being if you dont have the money to upgrade the sr20 if wont be that much faster than a ca18

the ca sucks balls dont buy one. what you need to do is find someone who is upgrading an sr and buy his turbo, injectors, etc. since the wastegate is already set at 7psi, just buy a super afc and get the fuel map right. you'll only make 220whp or so but it will be more than enough.

If that motor isnt healthy you'll pop it faster than a pimple on a cheerleaders nose before prom.

And you will pop it.

I would do the sr20 but for about the same price i can just do a kaT which i know if done right would kill a sr20. I don't know much about the others. I would like a rb20 but money is the issue. Not to mention gas for when i go to college.:jerkit:. So that's how it is. Thanks for the list of parts would it come out cheaper buying them all seperate or together?

but.. kaT done right = forged internals, full build, turbo, etc... = money bags! go with the sr!

SR= less probs.. :D thats just me.. been through the ka-t... if it ain't built right... its not worth it..

lol you're a 240 noob.

A big WTF to most of the shit you just said.

And yes I DO know more about Nissans than you even though I currently dirve a Mitsu.

you didnt have to call him out like that, we all knew he was a dumb ass. he used ka-t and rb20 in the same sentance and it wasnt a punch line.

for the record ka-t + fordged internals + full build+ good tune + plus the planets algining = motor that will last slightly longer than stock bottom end ka-t and will cost more than an sr.

u need at least $3k for a reliable ka-t IF you were starting with a decent KA. u can do it under $2500 if u use junkyard dsm parts but u have to know how to weld and make piping etc...

with good research and patience buying parts you can probably do a reliable KAT set up for $2500-3000, which, as far as I know, is a bit cheaper than a SR20 swap, and should be a little bit faster than a basic bolt on SR... IA's full of idiots, I don't proclaim to know everything myself, so I'm gonna point you in the direction, nicoclub, freshalloy all have great info, much better than the info here.
PS: The mileage on the motor has NO direct link to how well an engine will take boost, it's based on the engine condition.

Built KA-T all day long, as long as you do it right, you need good fuel and timing control. Without that, KA-Boom, even on a built motor. All of our stock internal KA-T's have been faster than many SR's with an exception, you know who you are, and definitely faster than the RB's, excluding the 26. RB20's are cheaper swaps than SR20's, RB25's are just a waste, might as well build you a KA-T, My RB20 vert walks 25's easy. Any built motor is going to be better than a stock boosted motor. Do what you want, you'll have plenty of fun with any of the Nissan powerplants, built or not. Definitely go on over to the major 240 forums for information, www.240sx.org, www.240sxforums.com, and www.freshalloy.com, you'll find useful information there.

For god sakes the kid thinks he is going to save gas by turboing a ka as opposed to swapping in an sr, he's not going to build it or do it right.

He'd love to get an rb20 but they cost too much. They're 900 bucks all day, complete.

Soo......my point is if you don't have enough for that you dont have enough for a proper ka-t.

yeah whatever blow smoke up his ass and tell him I don't know what I'm talking about and blah blah but he'll blow that motor sky high.

With the Ka you will have heating and internal problems out the ass! So for a nice setup with the ka without it going kaboom you will have to get new internals, rebuild and the whole nine just so it won't go kaboom which = A nice lil piece of change$$$! Just my opinion but the sr or even the ca is well worth, you just have to shop around for the best prices but if you do plan on sticking with the kaT setup i advice you to talk to Eric over at E&E motor.. You can go to his site http://www.e-emotorsports.com! Good luck!

I think someone already mentioned KA-T.org, but there you go, and entire website just for the KA-T. Oh BTW if you're doing a budget KA-T you better make sure another engine is in the budget somewhere. I blew up 3 in 1 year due to a variety of problems, mostly related to buying cheap %^$#$% and/or failed DIY attempts. Good luck anyways.
