You take your avg. driver and put them in a 500hp car thats setup for drag racing and I bet the times will be much closer than if you took that same group of people to road atlanta and put them in a 200hp car. If any of you guys know Mel Meyers. He went 1:39's @ road atlanta in his 200rwhp na e36 m3 street car. Very few drivers can do that. I've seen many more drivers go 10's and 9's in street cars.

Proper tires (ET streets) on a 500hp car should hook after the 60ft so the difference b/w drivers is in the launch imo. A driver @ road atlanta has SOOOOO many more variables to deal with.

you are probably right about RA. I was really just referring to the street in general..ie the mountains or whatever. My old turbo laser made 200 whp and it was easy to drive in the mountains..not sure what it would do at RA as i've never been there. Now i would say taking a 500 hp car in the turns is harder then driving a 500 hp car down the dragstrip.

My car is down right now while i do some additional tuning and mods but we will get together soon and do those pulls. :)

depends. american cars other than the Corvette/viper just were not made to handle period. i would disagree with you. the twisties require more skill. but you are also gapping it big time.. 200hp -500hp, drag racing is cool.. can be fun. but lets face it.. bottom line.. real drivers do just that.. DRIVE (actually turn wheel more than a couple of degrees left or right) .. make it say 300hp twisty car vs 400 hp drag car.. hands down it would take a hell of alot more skill to drive the 300hp car in the turns ( considering you want a lap time worht the time and money) than driving the 400hp car down the track, done both.

overall its a dumb argument, some cars make more power than others, some handle better than others, some are easier to mod, you are comparing apples and oranges.

bottom line: the Z is a truer sports car, the camaro will never compare to a Z as far as driver feel, handling, the overall car in general. the Vq35de will never have the grunt of the LS1 nor will it make power as easy. the Z was not made for drag racing it was made for turns. the Camaro is not made for turns, its made for drag racing.

Ever since I was 16 I have always had a f-body. Also it's a lot harder to get a 9sec car down the track than to get a 200hp car through some turns. If anyone is wondering how it would feel to be in a 9sec car go to your moutain runs and fight the car through the turns. Thats how it feels trying to get a 9 sec car to stay straight in the quarter. That's an easy example to tell most peolpe on here have never been in a 9 sec car. Also John v10slowboy looking foward to running the viper. I had a little bad luck with a head gasket but it will be back up and running in mid january. BTW My car is slow :jester:.

haha, oddly enough the fastest thing I've ridden in is a 10 second '69 Camaro. But I don't understand why it would be hard to control a high powered car from a launch, considering your objective is to hook up and not spin. I could see it being very hard to control if you constantly loosing traction, but a good driver is going to be modulating the throttle to keep the car from doing so.

As for my mountain runs, I'd imagine it'd be a lot scarier for one of you guys than it is me simply due to the fact that you'll be accelerating faster, having to brake earlier and having to constantly modulate the throttle mid corner to keep the car from going sideways. One of the benefits on the Corolla's light weight /low power combination is I can continue accelerating hard into the corner, after the people I'm running with have had to back off to keep from spinning.

It'd be pretty cool if we could organize a mountain run with a nice diversity of cars (Import and Domestic) sometime in the near future. It'd be great to see some Vipers tearing up the mountains.

They use 2 nozzles for both intakes making it capable to hold up to a 300 but it is much better to go direct port when getting close to 200.

erm... well I don't think the IROC really set any handling records when it was introduced, much less now-a-days. I don't think they're bad handling cars, I would just like to see how BCRAFTY's fast Camaro compares to my slow Corolla when it comes to turning and braking.
