aight so me and my buddy decide to do a few runs b4 we go to work. He drives of course a SRT4.

First run rolling @ 30. Got the jump on him and keep pulling. But noticed he wasnt ready for me. So that one didnt count, lol.

Second run rolling @ 30 in 2nd gear. (Honks) 3...2...1GO! I get the jump on him by a fender. Im about to shift into 3rd, but i decide that i wanna take it higher then the red line. My red line is at 6.9. As soon as i let it get to 7g rpms he starts to slowly pull on me. At 7.4-5g rpm i slam it into 3rd and he is still pulling on me slowly. At about 110 we shut it down. Over all he pulled on me about half a car.

Any particular reason for doing this? Your car is probably making alot less power up that high than it would have been had you shifted...

SRT-4s are hard to beat when it comes to "bang for the buck".

and I kinda agree with Spin2nd on this one, usually going past redline results in the car loosing power.

i dont kow what i was thinking when i did that. I geuss my best excuse is, i useto own a honda. My gsr did awsome at the top even past the redline. Use to take it to 9 alll the time. VTEC!!! lol

but anyways yea if i had shifted earlier prolly would of been nose and nose

lol. I couldn't imagine not taking it to nine all the time. I guess thats what rice cars are all about- needing to rev to stratospheric red lines to find power.

So its considered rice to rev to 9,000 rpm? I don't see the justification in that...

Reving high to find power and reving too high are completely different concepts. Just because the redline is at 9k dosen't mean its efficient to go to that point or exceed it on an N/A motor. An s2k makes all its power at high rpms due to the nature of being an N/A small displacement motor. Hell, my car does the same thing (redline at 6800, fuel cutoff at 7200) but there is a point where it becomes inefficient to rev any higher. An s2k's peak power and torque are before the redline so going past 9k dosen't make any sense. Now put a centrifugal supercharger or (not always the case) big turbo on the car and all this changes -- as is the nature of the power adder it will make more boost the faster the crankshaft is spinning and many times the car will want to make its true peak power well above what's mechanically reasonable for the motor to spin.

Very true...tell that to all the guys who put together the motors for Nextel Cup.

i think he's sarcastically bashing his own car. and most 4 cyl NA japanese sport cars for their sacrificing of low end for high end, with powerbands that only thicken out at peaky rpm
