last time I heard US customs isn't allowing any more JDM motors into America. Due to the gas prices rising and the motors not passing US emissions. There have been rumors going around that if you're caught with the said motor you can spend up to 8 years in jail and face up to a $100,000 fine from the EPA. Again, those are just the max's in both cases, but I would hope no one gets caught with a non legal motor.

You will probably do better driving your honda into a tree.

^ lol

seriously go to a 240 site such as 240sxforums and SEARCH BEFORE YOU ASK THIS QUESTION. but prices of the motor have increased.

Tiger Racing can provide you the service...give him a call, 404-993-3100. He did mine and I am very satisfied.

We do them too, along with KA-T's if you're worried about JDM swap legalities.

i am currently working on a car that tiger "built" for a kid up here. the car went into the shop just fine. $1500 later and the car is sitting in his driveway with a friggin starter button and doesnt run. now hes gotta pay me $500 to fix it when he could've paid me $500 to do it right the first time. my advice would be to go to tophat, they are a profesional shop and they are charging $1000 to do an install. you'll ave to find a motor, but nada or jarco should be sufficient.

Talk to me if u want to get a good clip for less than the 3k they r being sold for. before price increases i could get a full front cut with lsd an duncut harness for 1800. that was an s13 blacktop

I saw it on the news the other day, channel two did a really big presentation on it about a week ago. It was their main 5 o'clock story. It was talking about how the shipping had gone up, and the motors where being used for racing, or "illegal mountain driving" LOL, and how they didn't pass EPA and stuff.

It was interesting, go to their website it may have something about it.

I decided to be a searcher and find out any and all information I can find about engine swapping... and these are the sites I came across. I dont know enough about the SR-20 to know if its approved by the EPA, but that is basically what it comes down to.
Are you putting in an engine that is approved by the EPA?

http://www.epa.gov/compliance/resources/policies/civil/caa/mobile/engswitch.pdf

I also found out why this is so damn confusing... It seems that there is a difference on if the car was sold in the US or not. If you buy car in the US with the "illegal" engine in it, there isnt a problem. So, importing the entire car is ok, as long as the car passes emissions. They are stopping the swapping of "illegal" engines into cars that then won't pass emissions. Since the EPA has records of each engine that doesnt pass emissions, then they are considered "illegal" engines. But from what I have found as long as you can get it to pass the emissions laws, then you are ok, but you would have to restrict an SR-20 alot to get it to do that...

This is also a very interesting article on what is legal and what isnt:

Channel 2???

Well Jarco's website doesn't show their stuff really going up in price at all ... but hell, I actually live in WR and spend half of my time in Macon and neither one of them have required emissions testing. I doubt GSP or any other cops around here would know the difference.

Just read those two links (most of them at least) and it seems like if the engine was in a car in America, then bringing the Japanese version over almost seems legal ...

MIne passed emissions easy. all i did was throw on a new catco cat and keep boost at 6psi with some fuel cleaner. this with the 3in turbo back, running rich, and untuned.
