Background:

Customer previously had a large vinyl decal of his shops logo on his car. He recently decided that he did not want to have the decal on his car anymore and took it off with a nasty rag and adhesive remover. This left the cars paint in very bad condition with tons of swirls and fading.

Car with vinyl:

Without the vinyl:

It was raining and dark when I finished and did not get pictures of it in day light yet. Customer was very happy with the turn out.

I am always open to input so please give me your constructive criticism and such.

Thank you,

The work you did on the car looks phenomenal. Night and day. Now if those wheels and tires were replaced, we'd be in business.

Did you use some type of solvent to take off the adhesive?

I do not know what exactly he used to remove the vinyl, it was off before I detailed it.

trade miata for skyrine?

When I had my last Miata covered with vinyl, I used 3M adhesive remover once I peeled the vinyl off. What a PITA that was. The 3M remover stuff left a nasty residue on the paint even after two washes. Wax and buff took care of the rest. I know your pain...

Thank you, Mike. I appreciate the compliment, especially from a detailer of your caliber.

I have been detailing much more lately but haven't posted anything up really. I was so busy with school last semester that I wasn't able to detail much, but now have much more time to do so. I won't ever be detailing full time since I will be starting law school next school year, however, I do plan on doing cars more often then this past semester and such!

Looks like my comment was deleted but it really did come out good OP. Is the process a clay and wax or is there more to the process? My car definitely needs something like that I have spots where I got tree sap and its bonded with the paint and ive tried everything and still no luck even after wax it shows through.

wax is just a protectant, get to the source with rubbing compound and polishes....

Anything "wet sand" is not even close to the top of the list of things to try first. ;)

but why not just cut to the chase and just get it over with quick and easy? instead of sitting there trying to use different compound, just color sand the bitch buff it out and your done.

but then again i just love wet sanding and buffing shit, especially after a fresh paint job lolololol.

You only wet sand after a fresh job, but for detailing, its the last step. You do not want to remove anymore clear than you have too. Plus, its very little guessing. When you know how to properly detail a car, you can dial in a process in under an hour. I think I have only had a few vehicles that have taken me multiple hours to figure out the whole process. Most times...30-45 minutes and your set too go.
