Car: 1991 240sx s13 coupe

Motor: black top sr20det

Specs: unknown was told it made 346whp at 19psi but can't be certain since the previous owner fibs.

Turbo setup: garret gt2871r 86 exhaust housing, top mount manifold, big fmic, turbo xs rfl bov,

Other parts: Megean track coil overs, s14 LCA's, Isis tension rods, modded knuckles, maxima modded inner tie rods, wicked tuning outer tie rods, rear ruca, traction, toe, Megean control arms, welded diff, aggressive aero Silvia kit, apexi n1 exhaust, Isis radiator, nismo power brace, tonami rocker arm stopper, cosworth head gasket, arp head studs, nismo thermostat, greddy oil pan, s14 modded oil pick up, tuned via safc neo, Megean down pipe.

I got this car a few months ago from a member on here in a trade. When I first got it, it had a minor idle issue. I was told it had a aftermarket head gasket and studs (this info was false). A lot of the wiring was bad (half assed with speaker wires).

So far I've gotten rid of the pig nose front end and I'm up grading it to a sil front end. The coupe will be a wide body coupe. I've painted the engine bay and cleared it. I'm getting rid of un necessary wires in the engine bay. I've de greased the engine and had it re sprayed. New comp stage 4 clutch will be installed with new Chase bays steal braided clutch line.

Ill ad more details as other things get completed. I'm posting my up to date pictures there will be more to come.

Again I don't make 80k a year like the previous owner but I can still fix and build a car better.

Not trying to sound any kind of way, but why go through all that trouble to just spray paint the bay and not even get all of that coil bracket off?

I've removed most of the un used brackets. Which bracket are you referring to ?

As much everyone loves to hate you, I like how you're cleaning up the previous owners mess and are at least attempting to make it better. While I also don't understand why you went through all that trouble just to spray paint, it's certainly a heck of a lot better than it was before.

Thank you for the kind words. Well it's simple, in waiting on parts and had the paint already so why not ? The engine bay looked horrible so it deff needed to be painted. I'm also doing a wire tuck an some other cool stuff. It's my first time actually doing a 240 my way instead of how i usually buy them. That's why I sold pretty much everything Associated its previous owner. I prefer it be my own. I'm literally OCD so I can't in my right mind put the motor back in knowing all the issues that exists.

The car should be 10x better then it was before I got it for sure.

This.
Again, not being any kind of way, but I don't know how you let that go unaddressed being OCD. I should snap some close ups of what I've done so far on my bay.

Not to mention the cut out portion. You could take some small hole saws and cut holes on the 4 corners. Then take a mini reciprocating saw or cut off wheel, and cut between the saw holes (connect the dots, if you will). Giving a cut out with radii, instead of nasty, jagged corners.

Well I'm not a professional. I don't think my engine bay looks bad at all. If your being overly picky sure, but this car isn't going to be a show car. It will mainly be at the track. Thanks for the input though.

I could just easily tub the front and get rid of the spots your talking about.

I also didn't cut out those holes the previous owner did. I tried to fix it as best as I could but again I'm not going to be picky over jagged edges in my engine bay especially on a drift car.

Thanks man!

Waiting on a lot of parts so that I can update this.

Waiting on: triple projectors, corners, cosmetic head gasket, arp head studs, Freddy intake manifold, and I'm going to go pick up the rest of my kit. Also ordering enjuku squares (6 of them). I'm not rich at all so this is a poor mans build lol I just spent 2k so far hopefully when it's finished it turns out how I want it too.

If anyone has suggestions or criticism let me know I'm a knewb who's learning so advice is helpful.

what kind of clear did you use? i went through a few different types of clear on motorcycles until i found one that could stand up to gas being spilled on it..... i can tell you, if they sold it over a counter.... it will peel and chip.

now this shit right here.......... worth every penny. uca-150 from expresspaint.com $10.95/can

I will have to ask mike about what clear we used I'm not into painting at all so don't know what brand it was but it was over the counter.

I will order this clear then if you think it will hold up.

I confidently recommend that spray to anyone who plans on using a can for anything. It holds up to gas spills, heat and constant rubbing from motorcycle riding. over the counter clear bubbles off the first time you spill a drop of gas on it. That clear sprays on like tree sap.... you can tell it's heavy duty the second you spray it. Its real sticky, it doesnt run, it dries fast and it's like a protective shell. It's so thick that i sprayed it over my tank pad and sealed it in like lacquer.

It's ideal for it to be warm and dry, mostly dry, id put out a space heater to warm the garage and do it mid day. The moisture in the air clouds it up. The room being cold isnt a deal breaker, you should be heating the cans up anyways. Let them sit in some hot water or blow em with a hair drier. The better the condition of the air is, the better your result will be. Obviously you're not looking for a mirror finish on your engine bay, but you can still try. I dont think temp will have much of an effect on the durability of the finish, but it will change how clear it is. I made the mistake of spraying some pieces in the early morning and they were cloudy because of the moisture, as it baked in the sun it cleared up, but the pieces i did mid day were crystal clear.

you'll like it. it's so user friendly.... you could probably spray it drunk and blind folded and still get good results. Real easy to work with, its so thick it covers up textures and blemishes. Awesome product.... the reaction i usually get is "there's no fuckin way that's spray paint..... "

Then that's deff what I need then lol I didn't want to go all out spraying the engine bay I just wanted it to look a little better then it did. So if I can use these and it's easy to use and looks professional then it's deff a good deal for 10 dollars a can vs 8 for shitty auto zone clear.

I know but its way cheaper then oem and its all been reinforced by a professional. It will actually fit quite nicely once it's all done I was just kinda test fitting it. I pretty much bought a 1300 dollar kit for 500. Again it's a drift car so kits are kinda a fad I guess in the drift world. If this was just a daily I would run oem instead.

That's why people who drive mustangs get such a bad rep. They talk shit about anything that's not a mustang. Idc what he drives. If its a mustang he over payed as I can spend a quarter of the money and make more power. I'm not really worried about his opinion I just find him annoying. Again I'm not going for power I won't need more then 400whp for drifting.

And you're why import drivers get such a bad name. You go around spouting inaccurate statements about domestics because you don't know any better than to listen to your drifting buddies rather than actually doing some in depth research about cars you're not familar with.

Again, it's not wasted money because it's not an econobox like a 240sx. Drive a Cobra or Camaro SS and you'll understand it's not all about the speed- it's more car. Some people like driving tin cans that have no book value, some don't.

You can buy and build a 9 second Mustang for 6k. I've seen it done many times. I love my 240 and will always love them, but I know when to appreciate others.

It is good to see that you (or the previous owner) upgraded to the s14 oil pickup.

Obvious assumption from a moron...

My first car I ever fucking owned was a as Camaro and a mustang gt. they are pieces of shit simple and plain. I've owned over 60 cars dude I can determine which cars in my own opinion suck more then others. Sorry I don't butt fuck google on my spare time to learn every detail about a shitty ass cars i will never want to own. Because it new it's a nicer car? Or more of a car? Fuck I can name 20 new cars I would buy over a mustang. I don't give import people a bad rep as I don't go to meets looking to race people or any of that shit. I keep to myself and yes I drift because I find it fun. Sorry I don't drag...that shit is boring.

You're from columbus....... you're well aware that mustangs own the street.

I love 240s too... but it is what it is... saying they dont live up to mustangs is not an insult. It's about like saying someone isnt as good as Micheal Jordan.

Obviously your not a basketball fan...

Mustang wouldn't be Jordan as he's consider one of the best of all time making him comparable to a lambo or other high end cars.

Mustang would be considered d wade he has his hot and cold moments and goes aggressively in the paint much like a mustang.

Mustang held the world record for fastest street car for a long period of time. You're also comparing a car manufacturer to a single car made by a manufacturer. No single model of Lambo would stand up to the Mustang's heritage. Also, if i were going to start matching up the higher end cars, id probably step away from the NBA. Like so...

Ferrari F40 = Joe Montana
Ferrari enzo = Tom Brady

Then since the mustang isn't the best overall car of all time like MJ is to basketball your reference should have been wilt chamberlain since he holds the most points scored in a single game.

EASY

Magic Johnson. He was LBJ before LBJ. RINGS SON.

Magic johnson was also able to play any position. He played 1g simply because he was one of the leagues best at assist. He had size and he could shoot the long ball.

AI may not be able to run a team but he was very hard to guard and got a lot of hard to get points which helped in 4th quarter situations.

Idk if I want to rivet the skirts into the front fenders or not. I'm not at all a body guy. If I can't get it straight ill be sending it to a shop to be finished. Paint colors have been picked out already. I just have to have my sub frame modded before I start putting the engine and trans in. Yeah just painted it all white to match until i get paint. I was thinking a light turquoise or black with a very light gold flake like the valve color i also like the white. The rims are deff nice especially for the price i bought 6.

I'm far from dumb. Your motor may be rebuilt, but it has not run. Spending top dollar for someone else's project is just not my cup of tea. Your motor has no new internal parts. Did you even buy a new crank? Buy some real pistons and rods, bump the compression up to get better hp/psi, then come talk to me about an SR.

And keep my LS out of this. It would drag your car down the street. It took care of my brother's 20+ psi 2871 setup just fine. His new setup may have something for me, but you definitely don't

That's just motor and trans still need mounts and wiring harness ect another 1500 or 2000 for it to.ne complete. That would be 6k swap not 4k.

I'll stick with the rb25 s2 for now.

Im getting

Mounts with drive shaft new 690 shipped thats motor and trans
fmic piping 100
Specialties wiring harness 500
Rb25 s2 with auto trans 1175 shippes to my front door
Five speed trans with new stage four clutch 500
Radiator-100

Still have money to spare for safc, top mount manofold and maybe a isis rs3871r turbo all I would need is injectors and bam complete turn key drive off swap. That turbo isnt that big but will put out 400whp on a rb25 easy.

Im not paying 6k for 350whp just to be like everyone else with a lsx

RBTax isnt worth it........ if you want a 6 banger... everything an RB can do a 2jz can do better and cheaper.

Yes it's going to be so much easier to get parts for a motor that was never sold in this country.

Fuck the RB. I say go with an elesjuan and spray. A 2j would be another good option but I think the lsx is the better bang for the buck swap.

Got a full top mount rb25 for 3k with everything for plug and play drop in and go...you could not get a 2j for that maybe a 1j

I got mounts top mount exhaust with precision turbo, greddy intake mani, just imported new clutch, trans, mounts, drive shaft and harnesses for plug and play.

Hes figuring out the shipping I still may keep the sr just depends on the guy coming sunday morning.

Im not a fan of american v8's. I like walking them on the high way. If I wanted a v8 I trade my car for a mustang. The motor may be cheap and better bang for my buck but the t56 trans isn't, then the mounts, then wiring harness, also would need exhaust, headers made, trans tunnel modded so it will fit.

Its a 8-10k swap. I just got engaged I can't afford the lsx swap nor can I wait months without a car why its being done.

Yalls points are valid but I just can't spend anymore then what I've already spent. I'm already loosing money going to a rb.

And I never see mustangs like that. ive beaten more v8's then ive lost to. I also don't go seek out races especially on the street. I just like the feeling of walking a vett on the high way in my low budget build 240.

It's much cheaper than 8k, and why does is matter since your car's already been down 2 months? Odds are it won't run again either way.

I also figured a genius like you with an IQ of 129 would not intentionally lose money. That doesn't sound very smart.

Well car runs now. Timing Is alittle off but nothing major.

Did a lot of custom welding work yesterday. Delted the flex area on my megan down pipe. Made a custom fmic mount (looks really good) mikes also making me a custom silvia hood using my s13 hood. Still have to do small things like hook up gauges, alignment, dp and exhaust. If it wouldn't have rained Saturday I would be diving it. We also has to modify my dual projector housing. We cut the fog light out and fitted it with a fog light from a tripple prjector since it had all broken tabs. All wiring was shrink wrapped and done legit. No more shitty speaker wire.

white was workin for ya... stick with it... but something with a little more pop. "expensive car white"...lol something like morning frost with a good pearl.

but then again... with a drift car, dont want to have to match up a pearl every time you need to respray something.

The paint arrived time for paint this weekend. Also ordered GKtech offset spacers and stage two circuit sport inner and outer tie rods. Everything is ready and the car is drivable. Just needs a serious alignment.

http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/w447/Dmoney240/IMAG0217.jpg

Also installed a GKtech aftermarket clutch fan blades with a oem shroud. Hooked up two high powered efans. One on my radiator (back up) and one on my intercooler up front which should defd cool the air passing by a lot more. Over kill but its better to be safe then sorry especially with ga heat.

Fan on the intercooler is pretty pointless, its only going to have an effect when the car isnt moving... and the effect its going to have is going to be about the same as throwing a spoon full of water into a swimming pool. attempting to increase horsepower on a car when its sitting still makes no sense.

If you wanted to create a temporary air charge or something to rapidly cool your intercooler, you should use water or nitrous. They make fogger plates specifically intended to cool your intercooler. Obviously that's not something that's very cost effective..... but you can also use water in the plate or make your own with irrigation parts from the hardware store. Most people who do something like that connect the lines from their window washers and divert them to the intercooler, you also have a factory installed control system already in your dash... when you press the window washer button, it sprays water on your intercooler. The downside is, you will now have dirty windows.

That's actually not a bad idea. Thanks man.

The fan was more for pushing air
Threw both the intercooler and radiator I just mounted it on the front of the fmic so it could pick up a good bit of air. Didn't do it to gain power. just trying to keep the engine bay as cool as possible.

idk, the only water cooled fmics ive ever seen were pre-made, the ones ive seen dont have "cooling lines" they just have water inside them.

What im talking about is routing the water lines from the windshield reservoir to be sprayed into the front of the fmic.

like this

http://d5otzd52uv6zz.cloudfront.net/group-8ed8cfef-dab1-4646-b654-06b2650334eb-350.jpg

they make nitrous kits that just fog the intercooler, but you can replace nitrous with co2 or water. The fogger rings are pretty cheap, but if you wanted to be super cheap, you can get irrigation lines at the hardware store. and obviously you wouldnt have to be all douchey and mount the solenoid in plain view like these pics, you can hide it.

Well it came out decent. Didn't have the psi set high enough so a lot of orange peel and a lot of wet sanding to be done. Still needs to be cut and buffed.

Not too bad for a yard job. I would assume the camera is hiding the texture though. either way, looks promising.

Yeah. I mean in spots its pretty bad and rough but all in all it came out smooth. Only had one or two runs (psi was wrong). After we bumped it up from 20 to 60 it started to look better. Ill save my money up and get a better paint job later, but for now I just wanted it to be all one color. Has a lot of flake in the paint. Its also a stage 1 type paint. Looks better then a rattle can job. Still haved to wet sand the fiber glass fenders and front bump. My trunk is fucked due to some asshole sanding groves into it so its either sand it to bare metal or get a new trunk...I'm going with new trunk. Ill post more pics after I get the low pro tires on and front bumper. Still waiting on my inner and outers along with my gktech offset spacers. Still have some more work but its a working progress.

Still have a good bit of stuff to do.

Find the vac leak, clock turbo and make new pipes, repair sil hood, go pick up cusco roll cage install hydro, install inner and outers, install power by max offset spacers......a good two weekend worth not including interior, tune, and alignment. I almost went gt30...still may if my gt28 goes out.

Thanks I wish I would have rented a booth but oh well it looks better then a rattle can job.

The wheels are 17x9 + 12

Tires are to big 17/50/225 17/55/235 I bought new tires just have to mount them. I cant turn my wheel or ill rip my fender off lol I'm having zen motor sports do a race spec alignment and fix my timing issue this saturday. Now all I need is a good usable cheap hood and then I have to weld in the cage and install the seats and harnesses and then I should be done for now.
