You need a better location than your driveway.

Doesnt need a better location if he is just starting out. Then it would just be amateur pics that make it look like he is trying too hard.

Pics are better. Those angles of the valve cover are better.

The only problem I see with the third valve cover shot is the dullness of the shot since the cover is red. Maybe if there wasnt so much light in the background it would have turned out better. Also the next to last pic is too blurry almost like too much movement.

What kind of camera?

I'm not seeing DSLR type pics here. Looks to be PAS camera work. The pics aren't bad per my "standards," but don't seem to be that next level, you know?

open your aperture up for shots like i think you were going for in the first picture. you were trying to blur the del sol out right?

heres a couple examples of mine.

Great advice. Your DOF is weak, and combined with the poor focus of what I would guess would be the subject in most of the images, we aren't quite sure what to look at.

What kind of camera are you using? Even if you have a PAS, you should be able to still produce quality pictures.

They did a little. Is the car sparkly or dirty? Try a few more night shots with a more interesting focus point than a quarter panel.

You should invest in (and use) a tripod, a circular polarizer, a couple of remote flashes/strobes with lightstands. You don't have to spend a lot.
Additionally, you should read, "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Petersen, and frequent some of the car strobist forums. See this thread - The automotive strobist setup pic thread - Canon Digital Photography Forums (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=774069) .
Make sure that you nail, focus, composition, and exposure. If you shoot in RAW, you can dial in WB and contrast in post.

Shooting car events is different, of course. I usually slap on my CPL onto a wide angle, use a small flash for interiors, and carry a tripod if bracketing or at night.
