Any car with a VTEC motor is supposed to run premium.

Clean stock car. Take normal pictures picasso.

Unfortunately.... although it seems not to burn as fast as "the cheap stuff"

Any car with a VTEC motor is supposed to run premium.

So my mom's old SOHC VTEC Accord should have ran premium? Seems dumb.

Take some much better pics and post them. Really tough to see what you have with these pics.

Also, this car appears to be nice. Please don't make it look like that other one.

Yep...Im sure one of the techs here can explain why better than i can.

VTECs have higher compression ratios across the board. Since VTEC is a fuel saving feature, Honda recommends that it uses the grade of fuel it was designed to use. Using a grade of fuel too low for a high compression engine causes detonation. Octane rating is essentially gas's ability to not detonate. Detonation is when the fuel ignites before the spark. Your risk of this happening increases with compression.

A Honda engine isnt extreme enough to be damaged by using lower grade fuel, but you're not helping your car by running lower grade fuel and on a small level you are doing harm to your engine. If Honda tells you to do it, it's for a reason. It's no accident that theyre the world's leading engine manufacturer.

Premium isnt cheap but neither is a replacement motor. My stock LS drinks premium. Only thing I ever put in it.

VTEC itself doesn't necessitate the use of premium gas, but as a rule of thumb you want to run premium on any motor with over 10:1 compression, or retard the timing a bit. This would of course include most B-series VTEC engines.
