My birthday is tomorrow, so my registration is expiring. My car is 24 years old, about to be 25 in 2 weeks. If I just wait 2-3 weeks until January, then register it, will it be for 2013 and I'll be paying back registration for 2012? Or can I not register it for 2013 until around my birthday next year? A friend of mine did something like this with his car but didn't explain it very well, and he's not around to ask.

"Additionally, vehicles that are 25 model years or older are exempt from emission testing. This includes 1987 or older model year vehicles. If you are late renewing your registration for your birthday in 2012, your vehicle will be tested according to the 2012 rules. ""

Does that answer my own question? It seems like, according to the rules, they'd just count it as late, charge me a late fee and test me according to 2012's rules?

But that gives me another question. What if I register it as non-op for 2012? Then in a month or 2, attempt to register it as op for 2013? Later, Tinton.

Will it pass emissions now?

Nah no cat or EGR. Later, Tinton.

Then put a cat and an EGR valve on the car and go get your emissions. Otherwise spend more than $600 with receipts and get exempt.

If you're a cop, well, I'm not asking to circumvent emissions. I'm asking if waiting until January to register will have me registering for 2013? Or if that doesn't work, me registering it as non-op and then waiting to register it again until its emissions exempt and "operational" again? Simple questions, and I don't need you telling me to put emissions equipment on it. Where I lived before, where I registered it last year, it didn't need it. Later, Tinton.

Then register it there again.

Looks like I can register it as non-op now, not need emissions, then register it as op in January and it'll be for 2013 and exempt for emissions. Anyone who has an '88 model year can do the same (if you do a search on the forum and come here looking for advice, here it is). Got advice on another forum, where people are actually knowledgeable. Later, Tinton.

There are knowledgeable people here. I just chose to be an asshole.

It worked. Just registered the car, all they cared about is that its 2013 and the car is an 88. Shows what you know, Bacon. And for anyone else trying to do something like this, IT WORKS! Later, Tinton.

You told me to do something and I didn't have to do it. I know your type, self-righteous know-it-all who believes he knows how people should be doing shit. Must piss you off a little bit not to get your way? Later, Tinton.
