Checking in from Colombia

I am here on business, but decided to come a couple days before to check out the country. My hotel is near the ghetto, middle of Santa Fe, Bogota. I did not want to stay in the Marriott like most business people. My goal is to get the real feel of Bogota. And I am definitely feeling it now. Someone just pick-pocketed my wallet from the front pocket of my jeans. It literally happened about an hour ago in El Centro, center of Bogota. People cant tell that I am not from here since I am brown and can speak decent Spanish. However, I was a target today since I was carrying around an expensive looking camera. It can literally feed someone here for months. Also, it tells them that I am a foreigner. Anyways, while I was walking down the busy street of El Centro (first pic below), someone threw water on my neck. As I turned to see who it was, a lady came up to me and started to wipe me down while saying some gibberish. As she was talking to me, I felt a slight pull on my front pocket. So, I quickly checked it and my wallet was gone along with about 3 USD. Someone stole my wallet while she distracted me. They were some pros. Oh well, I only lost 3 bucks and a credit card that was in my wallet. RG just reported it for me. I will post more pics and things once I am back.

lol Yea, its pretty crazy here. You gotta stay on DL. Lol good guess, but I manage a business process standardization project for a supply chain software company. I got a couple of new hires here that I am going to train this week.

Lol, it was my decision. I could have brought them to the US. But, it is much easier and cheaper for me to travel here. I only have to pay for myself. I will take more picture, but not alone this time. It honestly is a good experience and expands your view.

I do see your point man. But, I dont really feel unsafe at all. They cant tell I am not from here unless I get into a conversation with them. The camera screwed me. It was too easy for them to point me out since I was taking picture of random things like a women with a basket of corn and a food cart. Normal things for Colombians.

Colombian myself, not saying colombia is a bad country and everything is beautiful, but just saying, i wouldnt even go to the "ghetto" here in atlanta with an expensive ass camera even if i didnt look out place, glad they knew you were out of place and possibly didnt even know you were from the good ol 'merica. maybe a different city, because it wouldve been alot worse for you.

but eventhough its bad in some places, i do encourage everyone to go to colombia. its gorgeous and the people are amazing, just stay out of the bad places and you will be allright!

Yup, its like taking pictures of drug dealers and gangsters in Compton with an expensive looking camera and you are Chinese. The lady with corn even chased me down when I took her picture. This was at a pretty okay area. The hookers are at the barrios de Santa Fe. If you are looking for some ass its everywhere. It def would take all of my balls and yours for me take a camera there. And I dont leave office till dark. So, its hard to take pics of anything.
