A few of you know that I've been riding around with a red passenger door for close to a year now, after my mom backed into my car when I went to visit. I was really tired of having a fairly nice looking car, then having that huge eye sore. I was going to save for an OEM style paint job (completely strip the car, paint interior/exterior/undercoat), and that may still happen one day, but for now, I decided I'd try something I've never done. I went with Plastidip, mainly because of the small risk involved, and the fact that I could pay >$500 for everything I needed.

Blurry picture, but there's the red door.

That color/wheel combo does not work at all. I would've just gone with white and it wouldve looked ok.

I disagree, I think gold and blue is a good combo, and the SP1/miester style wheel is one of my favorites.

Nope, finished product. Plastidip has a bit of texture to begin with, and it was my first time painting. It's not permanent, but it looks alot better than silver with a red door.

Cool story bro!

Woulda looked better, and been just a little more expensive if you had taken it to a real paint shop and had that 1 door paint matched to the rest of the car.

Probably right, but again, I really like the color, and it's not permanent. Worst case scenario, I can peel it off and get an actual paint job. No harm no foul.

but i agree i love the work meisters. I want to trade my LE37s for some in gold.

Honestly, I'm not sure what dry spraying is..

You should've just saved the $200 you used for this stuff towards a decent paint job. You might be happy with it, but most ppl will think it looks bad. And in the real world, what others think about you does matter.

Dry spray meaning u held the gun too far from panel and the finish came out with texture and it looks dry.

But my fault reading > me. Didnt see that u plasti dipped it. Get scratches/rock chips just peel the paint off and re apply lol. I really like the concept of plasti dip but the finish is just too dry looking for an over all paint job. Little shit like interior and lip kits fine.

Is that why you bought overpriced lug nuts? Who gives a shit what other people think?

Not in my world. Live for yourself, not to impress others. Come on guy.

I've heard nothing but horror stories about plastidipping a whole car. You'll be kicking your ass for doing it if you ever prep for a complete paint job in the future.

I'll pass final judgement when I see this in the parking deck at school in person, but right now I don't think this looks very good. As stated above, I would have paint matched the door. The main issue is the very texture of plastidip just looks like horrible orange peel on a cheap paint job.

I've never paid more than $30 for lug nuts. Someone bought those project kics lug nuts you're referring to, for me as a birthday present, which is why the threads title is awesome birthday present...

And all of us give a shit what others think, all to differing levels, but we all care to a certain extent. When going to a job interview, we dress nicer, shave, etc...why? because it matter what the interviewer thinks about us. When trying to meet a girl, we don't wear sweat pants and go out to a bar broke as hell. Anyone who thinks they're 100% above what others think is in denial.

Car looked good silver, should have spent $200 to color match the door. The plastidip doesnt look too terrible, but having seen that stuff in person, i know the pictures probably make it look better than it really does. Car probably looks good at night and then looks like shit when the sun hits it.

Apples and oranges and not making any sense all in one post. Wow.

You do realize that dressing nice to an interviewer to impress him/her is about as far on the opposite side of the spectrum as buying parts for your car to impress other people, right? Same goers when you insert impressing a female in the interviewer slot. There's no comparing the two.

And then the "not making sense" part. Who said anything about being above what others think? I don't even understand where that fits into this. Regardless, call it what you want, but I, 100%, have no care in the world what others think. And it certainly doesn't make me think I'm above anyone.

My IQ does that for me.

For a person who did it themselves it isn't bad but it's also not Gabe's work.

It's not that bad. I wouldn't do it to my car, but I will say that it looks better in one color than having one red door on an otherwise all silver car.

I appreciate the comments, regardless of if I agree. Wasn't really looking for opinions, just showing what I've done. But I don't mind the negative opinions. Again, I think it looks alot better than it did, and I can always peel it. at the VERY least, I can test out colors to see what I want in the future, with very little investment.

And I agree, I'm not a fan of the texture. The base color laid down really smooth, but the clear is where all the texture is. I'm not sure if it's a difference in the product, or if I rushed the clear. I'll redo it at some point, and see how the clear does then.

You would not want to. I was told you could paint over plastidip and then peel it off, putting anything over the top of plastidip makes it 10x harder to peel off, i literally spent hours with a razor trying to remove plastic dip from a small section after painting over it.

They sell "glossifier" in gallons now. It's a clear coat plastidip. Cool stuff.

I personally wouldn't have taken that route but, it's your car so do what you want. If you take your time and aren't afraid of spending a few extra dollars you can make a world of difference.

In person, the color resembles the blue from an xB. There was an s2k on here years ago that was painted that color. I agree, the finish didn't come out like I wanted. but AGAIN, not permanent. Looks better than having a red door.

I see your point but I don't like anything about this. The application looks rough and just not a fan of the color. The silver looked awesome though and I love that your lude is wingless. But it's your car and ultimately none of my business. Enjoy it.

Considered PlastiDip as well, yet went with a turbo build plan instead since my paint isn't too bad. Going to go with Meguiar's paint correction kit instead.

Congrats man, big project.
