Timing belt broke

Ok so I have a 97 B18B1 (LS) motor and the timing belt broke.. With it being a non interference motor do I still run a risk of the valves being bent? Or could I just slap a new timing belt/water pump on and be good to go?

I would have my head checked out.. Sometimes you get lucky and don't bend valves.. Start with checking into the head and go form there.

Yea I was thinking about taking the head off just to double check.. but I have ppl telling me not to waste my time bc its a non interference motor, but idk that may be the route I go just to make sure

Don't waste your time. I had one snap on me also at 80mph, I put a new belt on and she was good to go.
What I would do is put the belt on, put tension on it like it should be and then turn motor over before installing everything back on the car. You could even do a compression test to make sure nothing bent :)

:goodjob: good advice, slap a new one on (make sure the timing is right!) and check the compression if everything checks out then you should be okay. If it doesnt check out then it is the best time to build :yes:

As logn as it was low in the RPMs you should be fine. Put another belt on an crank it up

I was only goin like 35-40 mph.. Im pretty sure i was under 4,000 RPMs when it broke

Pull cams, do a leak down test. Fastest way to get your answer without pulling the head off, and will save you the headache of putting everything back together, if by chance it did have contact.

I had mine go on my 95 LS at like 3.5k and it bent 4 intake valves. An easy way to check is use a feeler gauge and check all of your valve clearance. If any of them are way loose you surely have a bent valve. Takes 5 minutes to check.

gonna have to agree with James aka emmino. just because it is a non-interference motor does not mean it won't bend valves. I have a 2jz and it also a non-interference motor and when my timing belt snapped, every single one of my valves were bent and i was rolling to a stop, maybe 2-5 mph when it snapped.
