I browse the for sale section here a lot and usually the end result of doing that is me throwing my mouse at my computer monitor and walking away because the prices are just retarded. I try very hard to be fair with my evaluations of other people's prices and not let my "standard" for 240s make me reject someone's car.

Today it hits me.... and it seems so simple. I figured out why these kids are so stupid with their prices. They simply dont know any better.... and they price based on looks. I see a lot of people price a regular s13 coupe with a good paint job and wheels like a legit silvia conversion because the cars "look" the same or look just as good as the other car.

These drifter kids or people with "regular" 240s just simply dont notice the things that make a car expensive. They go "my car looks as good as that one" and throw a price on it. Without noticing that $700 bumper that probably took someone 6 months to find or that piece of plastic that you have to search the globe to find. Even two cars that look 90% the same...... that last 10% could mean all the difference in pricing. Even the most subtle change that most people wont even notice could have cost $4-500.

Gonna use this one as an example, even though i think this is a pretty fair priced one, it just so happens to be the last one i looked at.

Very good looking car, nice and clean... sitting right, everything on point.... excellent example of a 240.

However....... there is an astronomical difference in that car... and this car.....

and some of these drifter kids just dont seem to notice it. "my coupe is just as clean as that one and has an sr20 in it" , i think thats how these people price their cars.

That...... and some of these motherfuckers are just stupid.

I stopped reading at "240s and Retarded price" because thats an oxymoron.

The problem is that 240s are like EG civics now. They are so ragged out and beat up youll never find a clean well maintained one, and when you do, the guy wants decent money. And when it SELLS, the kids with the piece of shit cars do the bare minimum to justify increasing the price on their car (think polishing a turd).

Truth be told, a clean panel S13 is worth $2000, with an SR swap, wheels, coilovers, $4000 tops. Theres comes a point where im not paying anymore for a 15-20 year old car. $4500 is about my limit, because for $5000+ i can get a car from this decade that has AC and PS and bluetooth.

You said exactly what i was saying. The kids with ragged out and/or normal 240sxs justify their prices based on the 1% of 240s out there. Out of 100s of 240s ive ever looked at, i've seen only a handful that were worth more than 5-6k.... yet it seems every single one of them is priced over 5-6k.... Theyre basing their prices on the 1%. 240sx is not an expensive car........ when you see them sell for good money, you're buying the modifications. The actual car that rolled off the show room floor is not valuable, no matter how clean it is.

THAT is the GD truth right there!!! I mean people can charge whatever they want for their own shit, but setting a price at more than 5-6k for such an old car is ridiculous because most dont even look and function as good as stock. But oh well. I love s14's, but the negative stigma and "taxation" of them will forever prevent me from getting one. Why pay 10g's for a clean 240 when I can get a 10 year newer s2000 or 350z for 13k. F that.

That's just stupid, some people WANT older cars, or an S13, or whatever.

I agree with the stupid 240 prices though, sorry but a stock 240 that needs some minor work but has a clean body is not a $3,000 car.

While I dont agree with the prices its their car they can ask anything they want for them. Any car thats sought after is going to have crazy prices. I have been looking for a nice 87-93 mustang coupe for months. Im picky and taking my time im not like the 16 year old kid going oh my god I need on this week end to show off to my fag buddys. Its hard to find one thats clean, stock, automatic and still has all its factory a/c p/s and that some dick head has not ripped the fuel injection off of it. But when I do find it Ill pay for it. But the way its going Ill probably just add fuel injection and a/c to my 67 and drive it.

I bought a low mileage foxbody and made it the way that I want it. That's what you have to do at times. I'd much rather have a 67 though like yours. It's a better car. just put in AC and a complete Coyote swap and be done.

You guys are missing the point. Because it's a RWD car, it means it's worth at least $2k more than it appears

I bought a 240 with an untuned SR swap for $3k. The shell was shit but the motor ran real strong. I dropped another $1k or more with wheels and tires, new aluminum radiator and slim fans, AFC Neo, and a few other pieces. Sold the car for $3k. I may have been the one to get shafted buying it for that much in the first place but I was not going to sell it for some retarded price. I posted it in the parts section because I was selling just the swap but the buyer could drive the swap home.

Now I want to find a hatchback "S13" and start fresh. While mine was a POS shell, I never really gave the car a chance.

I agree but I dont want to risk something happening to it with daily driving someone hitting it ect. Thats why I want a decent foxbody to make it the way I want it and a coyote swap in my 67 has to remove the shock towers something im never willing to do. Now a coyote sawp in a foxbody = PURESEX!

I remember looking at one on autotrader back in 03 that had like 70k miles. Dude was asking 4k. He's probably kicking himself for not holding on to that thing. That'd be bugatti money these days.

Too bad I was looking for my mk3 back then.

Talk to Bob@KMS on here. He has done more of the Coyote foxbodys than anyone else has by far. He also knows how to do all the tweaks to the ECU, and Ford has some real tricks in there.

Yeah I think I saw his work on a few youtube videos. I have my eye on a few totaled 11+ mustangs but for the price of everything and the time needed I would proably just buy a new 5.0 or wait a year or 2 till other companys start making the swap parts and the prices come down. The only issue i see is i would want to try to keep the 6 speed auto as i cant drive a stickshift anymore!

He has one in the bay he is doing now. You should go up and see it.

I went auto, and do not regret it.
