Gettin pretty decent with the rattlecan, my camera doesnt show the full detail of the quality. didnt wetsand or polish, paint is dry, only used rattlecans.

unfortunately, i improved with each panel of the bike i did, so some look noticeably better than others. Now that i have my recipe down and a little practice under my belt, ill get more creative with something new over the winter.

Also, finished pics of bike coming soon.

Before - poorly done rattlecan over the top of oem honda decals and paint.

yeah, im both happy and sad with it. Happy because by the time i was done, i did a piece i was 100% satisfied with and didnt view it as a cheap compromise. To me, the tank looks as good as it can look and looks exactly how i wanted it to. Sad, because the other pieces look like a cheap compromise in comparison. Now i have a reason to start over!

Almost picked up a full oem fairings set off craigslist but someone beat me to it. I'll probably buy a new fairing set to paint so i can take all the time i feel like taking and still have the bike on the road.

More pics, ignore the gas cap, have a new one

Just take your time, anything can be re-done..

And you only learn by trial & error!!

Normally the cans hold and put down less material, and the fan in which it sprays makes it difficult, but that just means you need to apply more and watch the overlap in which you spray.. You can sand each coat to eliminate trash and orangle peel, and you can also put a clear coat on top to protect the finish.. All this just takes more time, and adds to the process!

A small compressor and HVLP paint gun can simplify things, but the results can look the same if you take your time, it's a given that the quility factor will go down, but for something small paint cans can be much easier, not to mention the cost is cheaper..

yeah, its unquestionably red in person. darker shade than the factory red, though it doesnt seem it in the pics.

i notice some cans put down a lot more "trash" than others. i tested about 4 different brands and some of them were just absolutely horrible and looked like shit no matter what i did.

I'm thinking about buying a paint gun now.

Harbor freight is the cheaper option, and the guns they sell will lay down very well.. Check setup tho, look for 1.4 and 1.8, and grab the mini gun!! lol

Now if you wanted to paint for a living I would say grab a 3-400 Sata or DeVilbiss but no need really..

idk, though i probably did that unintentionally with the cans sitting outside in the sun. After trial and error, i ended up using rustoleum ultra cover paint from home depot, it was head and shoulders above anything i got from the auto store. Also, i tried several primers and only 1 seemed to work as intended, duplicolor self etching green primer with green lid. clear is from expresspaint.com, store clears are shit.

Just make sure you keep it clean after every use. And it will do the trick
