A few months ago I became a member of SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association), and SBN (SEMA Businesswomen's Network). They were gathering women in the car field to participate in a car build in which Ford would donate a 2013 Mustang for us to work on in Los Angeles, CA.

I thought to myself that I wish I could participate, but funds were tight. With support from many friends I was able to make it out here at Source Interlink Media / Hot Rod Magazine headquarters, and participate with all of the awesome women on this first ever women's only build.

The winning design by Jennifer Seely of SBN, "High Gear" was chosen by the people. We will be following the rendered design from the rose gold accents, the customized seats, to the satin black exterior and more.

This week July 23-27 we are working as a team on the interior and stereo portion of the build.

It is like a dream come true, and I was very surprised at how many of us there are around! Each of us felt like we were the only ones in the guy's world of automotive modification. It was refreshing to know there are others out there just like me!

We would like more women to feel like it is okay to get under a car, turn wrenches, and get dirty. Many guys that I've met along the way give praise and say that it's so cool to see a woman who enjoys this line of work. Sure there are the naysayers that ask if I know what I'm doing, and I just smile and say yes. There isn't any need to tell someone what you can do in the automotive world, it is all about showing what you can do!
