Looks like I'm having to leave my job that I absolutely love for another. I'm waiting now for the paperwork to go pick out my own truck. Not my company truck, but my own. As in I'm making payments on it to be mine. I've never thought about being a truck driver let alone being an O/O. But this is where my riches will come from, so here I go...............

/posting a FaceBook status here because I don't have FaceBook.

Later, QD.

Good luck. I'm leaving in about 5 mins to close on my new house. Big expenses for both of us.

Thanks, fellas. The company I'm latching on to with my new truck is going to pay me double (bring home) what I was making where I currently am when i was getting paid good. Plus the benefit of my own truck. Later, QD.

Appreciate it, Andy. I'm "ok" in the grand scheme of things, but the other necessities are getting kind of slim now. The pay cut we received a month ago was worsened as of this past Monday. Later, QD.

Hopefully you enjoy the job as much as your previous while being able to even better take care of the fam.

What kinda truck you gonna get? I've always liked the squared off Peterbilts. But then again I'm sure they lack in MPG due to their design.

I'm not going to get any of those "long-nosed" trucks. Where I go, my expertise is in needing the shortest front end as I can get. I'll probably end up in a Freightliner Century Classic (I believe it's called). I hate those trucks, but I'm told they are more reliable and less expensive to maintain than say a Volvo, which was my first choice. I drive an International right now and I'm not too fond of these trucks. Later, QD.

Sucks to hear about the way the old job went. The only two trucks I have ever driven was a Mack (I don't have enough words to describe how much I hated it) and a Volvo (it's ok).

But yeah, Volvos are great for the hwy. Back alley docking... Not so much.

It can be for sure. I have a coworkers that hauls gas during the week. He is an owner/operator and sets aside about $100k a year just for insurance and maintenance. His truck is paid off so he has that benefit.

Good luck on the new job and the purchase. With the new gig, are you going to be able to pick your loads or are you at their mercy? Hopefully they pass on that fuel surcharge to you also.

What kind of freight you hauling? You pulling a box or flat? I used to want to drive a truck, until I had several people people tell me about pulling a flat, and having to cover your freight before you left.

I haul whatever I'm paid to haul. As far as "box" or flat" is concerned, I assume you're referring to "van" and flatbed." I don't do flatbed. I also don't pull dry vans. I pull containers. You don't have to pull flatbeds if you don't want to. Major shipping companies have separate divisions for this stuff so you don't pull out of your division. Later, QD.

Well, it's high miles (not too high truck-wise) and three years old and a day cab. I'm not getting a sleeper truck.

ahhhh so the sleepers are 6 figures. I figured so because a lot of people use them for a house.

Echonova
11-17-2012, 11:15 AM
Sleepers are definitely not houses. I just spent 3 days in my Volvo and couldn't wait to get out. 'Course mine is a 1999. Just a tick over 100,000 miles. But you'd never know it by looking at it. Previous driver just treated the truck like shit. Broken armrest, privacy curtain torn to shit, etc etc etc.

I would trade all of King Midas's silver for a truck with a bathroom (my needs are different than most, I drive to a site and sit there for 24hr... Sometimes it's in the middle of nowhere/neighborhoods. Shitting in someone's front lawn is frowned upon in the United States for some reason)

Truckers do use these as a home away from home. When I first got into trucking, I did it, myself. I had a 2006 Volvo that I had a fridge and a TV and DVD player in it. It's a helluva life, that's for sure. But for what I do, I don't need a sleeper and don't want one for where I go. For the money I save on not buying a sleeper, if I get caught up having to stay out overnight, I'll be able to stay in a hotel.

Echonova
11-17-2012, 09:59 PM
seems those lot lizards were tearing it up.Yeah... I burned the mattress that was left in the truck in the middle of the yard based on the smell alone.

That's why homie got fired... Had three hookers/baby mama's show up... At the same damn time

I won't really being involved in anything new as I've been trucking for a while now. The only thing different is that I will be doing it in my own truck now.

And the money.

I guess the new will come in operating my truck where before I could just drive it knowing the company would fix it.

I appreciate your words, though, my friend.

didn't mean to offend. BTW so have I and I personally think it is way to high. even with fuel express I am spending crazy dollars to fill up 2 tanks. 300 gallons hits the wallet pretty hard

my dad drives a new volvo and he used to drive a new Freightliner, he said the difference is night and day.
He said the century classic is much cheaper, cheaper to maintain, but he just like the volvo a lot more.
stronger, quieter, and a nicer ride. But it's a bitch when it comes to stupid part, much more expensive.
Congrats on your truck, i hope you like it.
