i was wondering if anyone has any advise on mufflers and the differnt sounds u get from them

heres the deal i have a civic with a gsr motor stock header, right now i have-- cat into-2 1/2" good mendrel pipe into premuff- into 2 1/2" in-4" out dc sport muffler....its one of the round ones nothing special i thing muff by itself is like $50 online....it really doesnt sound bad, its just loud. now not straight pipe loud but loud enough to get pestering

i really would like to have somthing very quiet but at the same time i dont want to rob myself of power by but puttin on a stock muff. now i understand motors in cars have diff strokes and all that so a civic really will never sound like a stock 350z or a stock boxer motor like a subaru. but these cars are som examples of cars with exhaust that i would be ok, due to with the height of their tones

so i guess i wouldnt mind a little sound but i would also like the sound of the intake to be heard will in the car.....any ideas, thanks

I am buying a universal Megan Racing oval muffler with a burnt tip for my setup soon. The presence of a cat and resonators play a huge role in sound.

Sorry bud, but everyone's taste is different and everyone's idea of loud is different, so exhaust threads are moot.

Oval canisters generally provide a quieter sound than cans. Think about the difference between the Apexi N1 and Apexi WS2.

VIBRANT FTW.

The BEST sounding muffler (imo) I've ever personally heard... of course there are tons of variables that come into play, though. Engine size, piping size, number of bends in piping, whether it's resonated, if you have a header, if you're still using a stock cat, etc... so it's almost impossible to "plan" the sound of your exhaust. My set up was on a stock internals d16z6, no name header to a resonated test-pipe, 2.38" intermediate pipe with a second resonator back to a 2.5" straight through Vibrant. Relatively quiet setup overall, nice boxer-esque rumble at low rpms and had a really subdued mid-range roar when I romped on it. Only exhaust to rival it was my buddies Jasma approved Fujitsubo cat-back on his LS integra, though that was like a $1000 setup.

I'm really enjoying my ws2. Using a vibrant metal race cat and it is the quietest setup I've had. And sounds really good. I've used vibrant muffler before and it was just alil to loud for me.

i like the ws2 too, i know with my same set up how it sounds due to i built my boys car....we both bough the same defective evo2's when his muffler fell off he replaced it with the apexi and i like it it sounds very clean, it is for sure quite and has been the muffler i have been plannin to use till i came across the vibrant....reviews on them are very up and down so still on the fence, i havent lookd at the cats and i do hav an old stock one...sooo idkQUOTE=Berta;39419437]I'm really enjoying my ws2. I love how most people love the stock 350z exhaust note.. And wrx's sounds amazing..

Just look on YouTube for sound clips.. Idk about civics/integras but Mugen exhausts usually are deep and not too loud or raspy

idk, my buddy has a vibrant on his integra gsr and it sounds like shit. low range-good, but once it hits around 3600rpms it goes into a ear screeching sound. i had a gsr in my eg hatch at one time with a top fuel drag and streetfighter exhaust on it and it sounded amazing.

Get rid of your exhaust manifold and get a header. This will help deepen your tone no matter which set up you go with. Also, full catbacks with built in resonators tend to be a bit more quiet than welding on a universal muffler. I had an HKS Hi power knock off tip welded onto my stock piping with out a resonator, and it was loud as shit (but sounded good). I then picked up an Apexi Dunk cat back and it is super quiet. Actually a bit too quiet for me, but im hoping my cat delete will give it some more balls.
