Y'all have seen Black Chrome, well here we bring you Black Gold ;). Color is Metalic, Gold on it goes to Darkish at Night, almost Bronze, but let Sunlight hit it, and it really pops out with slight black tint to it.

Customer wanted his silver wheels to painted to Peel Your Paint's Gold spokes and Polished Lip.

Pictures are unedited to truly see the color.

So for $185, you'll put note cards around my rim and spray this peelable paint (which I can buy online for $12)?

So by my math, that's $173 for the 4 minutes it takes you to take off my wheels, plus the 6 minutes it'll take you put note cards in.

$17.30 a minute.
$1038 an hour.
Labor prices are getting steep these days. I think I'll just spend $20 on a hooker and feel just as satisfied.

Don't buy it online. I sell it as well cheaper than any retailer so save the $11 on shipping. I paint them as well for those who don't want to paint, and want them done right the first time. Amount of paint it takes spray a set is lot more than $12 and labor time is more than 17 minutes, that is dry time for 1 coat out of 5 coats. Dry time goes up with each coat.

Next time you want to buy a car part go buy raw material online, make it your self, hope you get it right, and then bash on manufacture.

Customer came in with quote he got from a shop for $450+ and left with paying leas than half.

So does it hold up good when you wash the rims? Like for example like I clean my rims with a tire brush, will the brush peel the paint off?

But even at $12 + $11 shipping, and even if it took me 4 cans, that's still only >$70 (that's if shipping was $22. unlikely). I'm not bashing what you do. By all means, make that money man. I just don't know how you find people willing to pay you that much to spray paint and watch it dry.

I'm not "bashing" a manufacturer either. From what I can tell, the actual product is good stuff.
And just a side note, I'm actually in the middle of making my own part from raw materials right now, intake manifold to be exact. Went from CAD to material analysis and is now getting ready to get mocked up.

You are a DIY guy - change the motor in your driveway, buy a lip off ebay, etc., anything to keep the project under you own hands. I'm sure that you would want to paint your rims yourself, just like you've done all of your own work previously. There is nothing wrong with that approach, but for some of us, it is more costly to DIY.
In my case, it would actually cost me more in lost time that I use to do paying work, than to simply pay to have a job like this done for me - and that is if I made no mistakes. I could either pay once, and have it done right (and if it wasn't right I could have them do it again), or I could take time off and lose money, or take away from my time to do things that I actually want to do.

By all means I encourage people to just buy the paint and spray it. I try to give them very detailed directions from my experience. Had few people who screwed it up and money they spent basically went to waste.

How would you feel if I tell you for parts you will be making that, $100 in material, $100 for flanges = $200 for a manifold you make and charge $1000. Now why would anyone wanna pay you for just clicking around in computer program? While I give you no credit for your R & D / trial & error. Makes no sense.

For other questions:
1. The paint is very durable. Will not come off when washing the car, holds up very well against pressure washer. I have washed my wheels with brush, and they are fine, but I still recommend hand washing.

2. Please PM me for location and prices.

Dammit, I was trying to bring this discussion to an end, but I have to say...

You'd be an idiot to believe that designing/flow testing a part in a CAD program and cutting out parts with a 3 axis CNC is remotely similar to the skill it takes to use a spray can. Even if you sprayed that can 20 times to count as your "R&D".

You'd be an idiot to believe that it only takes 10 minutes to prep for any type of paint. Yet by your original statement, you seem to think just that. Somehow, I suspect that you have to be smarter than that, but are just trying to start issues.

If painting correctly was so simple, you'd have already painted your front lip yourself.

By all means research and do it yourself, but as david pointed out,(essentially) when you have more money than time, you realize that your time is more valuable than your money.

I was making a point about the painting process being fairly simple. But you're right, it would take more time than i said originally, but in my opinion, not $185 worth of time. And just for the record, my lip is painted and on the car. Just haven't updated my build thread in a while.

And here is the issue. People rate the value of their time differently, and rightfully so. If you earn $10/hr, then you would have to work 18.5 hrs to earn the $185 needed. If you could do the job in 8 hrs (1 day), then to you, it would obviously not be worth it. However, to a person making $60/hr, then it is cheaper to pay someone else to do the work, as they would actually lose a good bit of money by trying to DIY.
It's all about what the person's time is worth.

if you're so lacking in skill that you have to pay someone to use plastidip for you...... then you're pretty bad off. This is arguably the easiest automotive process in the history of automobiles.

It has nothing to do with skill, it has to do with value of time.

Personally, I worked on cars for a living for over a decade, but you hardly will see me do any work on them myself anymore, as I make more money working than I save by DIY on just about anything. Granted, there are some tasks that it is still worth it to DIY just because you know that you will do a better job than anyone you hire, that's an exception though.

It's not the skill I am comparing, rather the thought process behind it. You really do know what my R & D was, spraying 20 cans and you think you nailed it on the forehead? This isn't going anywhere, you are still making assumptions without knowing the facts.

GL with you intake manifold. Word of advice, if you don't have anything positive to add. Then it's good idea to keep quiet rather start a flame war & burn bridges.

I think I'll just spend $20 on a hooker and feel just as satisfied.this reminds me of a guy that called me for three days setting up a time for me to do a rig shot on his car. we meet up and was getting ready to unload all of my rig poles and cups. he asked "now how much is this going to cost me" i tell him $75.00 and the first thing out of his mouth was " why would i pay you that much for something i can do with my cell phone". i just laughed, loaded everything back up and just left. people dont think about the set up,taking the picture and then the editing that is involved. i also paint cars on the side. prep work is 90% of the paint job. i charge $200.00 for a set of wheels + material. same principle, only difference is. your not peeling mine off lol.

I think that's different though. I completely would pay X amount for photos, as there is alot more work in it than I could do myself. But THIS type of paint (im not talking about booths/spray guns/etc) doesnt involve as much skill. I've painted with spray cans before (like OP) with positive results. But I agree with david&company, to some people, time is worth more than money. to each their own.
