We picked this up from Utah while stationed in Idaho. 450 bucks, trailer to take it home due to unknown non starting issue. After much ado, determined the ecu had fried. Replaced the ecu with another 90 NA ecu and she great pretty good.

For about two days, then of course, the timing belt snapped. Bent every valve.

So might as well go turbo, eh? Picked up an awd laser for 600 bucks and towed it home to sacrifice.

So, since my wife enjoys car projects, she wanted to tackle the thing entirely on her own accord, with me assisting in pointing at what to do and for difficult bolts. Progress from today below.

Wife is doing work! Hopefully my girl will get to this point. She was so excited when she helped me take my oil pump off, lol.

well, we are going to use the mesh laser wheels for now. Probably lower it a touch and eventually repaint it after fixing the rear 1/4. Nothing too fancy.

Your wife easily gets the title of "Awesome".

I am looking forward to seeing where this great classic goes.

I remember there being some issues with suspension parts or something because of the 4 lug hubs that the galant gsx's use vs the galant vr-4's, but my DSM days were forever ago it seems. Hoping I'm wrong and it's much more bolt-in than I'm thinking it will be. I converted my 92 Talon ES back in the day, like 2001. Not much on the internet to go off of back then. If you need any help I'll do what I can. Swapping wire harnesses is fun.

correct, its an NA awd car. Actually made less of those than VR4 models (about 1700)

Right now i am stuck between building it as a Naturally Aspirated car or going ahead and just turbocharging it. I feel as though an NA engine build would keep to its original intent. Its a Galant GSX, not a VR-4 after all.

thoughts? I really have everything to go either way. But naturally aspirated would be a nice and simple build.

My feeling is definitely turbo it.

4g63's don't make shit for horsepower NA. I wrote the book on how to convert a DSM to turbo, most of the same should apply here.

If you want to go the cheaper but less reliable version of just putting a turbo onto the na 4g63, this will help you.

we have an entire 92 Laser awd for parts. I plan to pull mostly everything from that in order to get the turbocharging finished. I could use the 90 electronics and 90 turbo ECU i have however. Ill read your article and see how it goes from there.
