Ill just post over the last two updates i have made for this car. Its easier that way.

Finally got the FB tops onto the coilovers! Good news is they clear! I also got the ARP studs onto the five lug hugs. Assembled the whole shebang with calipers and the wheel to see if everything clears. Looks perfect. Huge amounts of clearance!!!

I also removed the engine and finish welded the mount brackets. Added supports for the driver's side. The mount for steering quickener was made and welded too. Finished welding the steering adapters as well.

That gauge of steel plate you used looks scary thin

its all in the design. If you look at most OEM applications, the metal is also rather thing, but the shape dictates most of the strength

well once i move to GA ill have to figure that out. Im still stationed in Idaho. But you have Rally Tennessee (i think that is still going), Sand Blast in south Carolina and there are two in West Virginia . you also have events up north more. Rally usually requires some driving to get to where your going.

So, how about that! I didnt know about those, SC, Tennessee are close enough, well lets see what can i do with my TA64 CELICA!

here is my built thread!

ah yes, i know a guy in Oregon who has a Celica of the similiar breed. Might be a celica Supra. He just ran the Oregon Trail rally. As far as building a car is concerned. Its not for the faint of wallet.

Didn't know anything about this. Why'd you choose the miata motor over the rotory?

I guess this just sums to one word, reliability

Whizbang

The reasoning for the 1.6 engine was from a desire for reliability, fuel economy, horsepower per dollar, heat management and overall cost. I have been into my rotaries for a decade now, have had nearly 20 Rx-7s of varying years and conditions. The car did have a 12a streetport with a weber 48IDA but due to ingesting a bolt. But 12a parts are drying up, I will not utilize used housings in a race car where the entry fees alone exceed 600 dollars. New housings for 12a are no longer made, and 13b housings are nearly 1200 new, each. All to get about 160 horsepower. The Miata setup i picked up locally for a good price, and junkyard 1.6 motors are cheap as could be.

Car is on the ground. need to adjust the ride height and add some weight to order helper springs.

I mean, I know it's a rally car, but is it suppose to sit that high in the front?

Whizbang

im still adjusting ride height, but it also doesnt have all the weight yet. Also bear in mind, that i trimmed about 2" up on the fenders so i looks a lot highter than it really is. I overall have about 8" of travel to boot.

What a badass project! I really like the chassis/powertrain choice too.

Some more pics.

Managed to make the pin mounts for the rear hatch. Also, trimmed the fenders for tire clearance since the axle line moved forward. Also, also, mounted the Saab 900 radiator and the intercooler. Used square tube and some flat steel on the bottom, then aluminum on the top. Clutch line is done. Brakes are getting there. I need some odd ball fitting for the input to the Wilwood cylinder.

Going to clean and prep the inside of the car here soon so i can paint the inside after filling holes and just plain old age and wear. Then the fuel lines and brakes lines will be mounted permanently in the cabin and the electrical can begin.

Fitted the studs for the pump plate, mounted the fuel filter, and start to size the -6AN lines in for the fuel array. Summit (Russell) brand hoses are living nightmare to assemble and I will only buy Earls (Jegs) next time. Going to mark and measure and pay a place in town to deal with assembling those things.

Also, most of the brakes lines are done. need a Master Cylinder to bias line, and a line to go to the axle that is flexible.

Also I mounted the foot switch for the horn on the co-driver foot rest. A similar switch will go on the other side for wipers/sprayer activation.

spent awhile last night removing unused wiring from the harness. So far i have removed at least 6lbs of wire. Probably more if you consider the components removed like emission ecu etc. Hope to maybe get the chassis harness done over the weekend. Gauge panel still needs some time (ie money) so we shall see.
