Well I bought the car with an old Sony 510 unit. The front speakers were never hooked up to the unit. So I wired the speakers to the the aftermarket install kit. THe issues is that I get the "beep" from the speakers when I change settings or press any button for that matter. I know the been comes from the speakers due to the cone vibrating at each beep. However, when the radio or CD is in the unit there is no sound whatsoever. Would this be something wrong with the unit and just replace the unit?

Ther could be a few things at play here, your best bet is to bench test the unit. Meter the speaker outputs for AC voltage, with the volume up and music playing anything alernating above 1 volt is normal. This will eliminate the factors of damaged speakers, damaged wiring, or improper installation. If everything meters out on the bench, take your troubleshooting to the car. Meter resistance on each set of speaker leads, you should see approximately 4 ohms. Finally, check each speaker's continuity to chasis ground, it should be non-existant. Anything far off from that on any speaker channel could be sending the radio into protect mode. Most Sony radios do not display "protect" when there is a problem on one of the channels.
