I have a 97 Accord. I was wanting to get some prices on doing a custom install for my system. 2 Amps, 2 15's, and a cap. Some nice plexiglass or fiberglass work. Maybe even flush mounting. LMK what ya'll can do. Thanks.

I know my bother in law can do it. He will need to see your car and get a more accurate idea of what you want before he can quote it though. That goes for pretty much anything though. Where are you at?

Im not trying to get too fancy. Under $1000

sina518
01-16-2006, 03:50 PM
you have all the equipment

rollininstyle2004
01-16-2006, 04:17 PM
I think you are going to be hard pressed to find a shop willing to even discuss fiberglass for under $1000. A lot of VERY VERY nice installs can be done without fiberglass, dont think that just becuase it isnt glass it has to be a simple carpeted box.

BanginJimmy
01-16-2006, 07:58 PM
if you have all the gear, then just a glass and plexi box is going to cost about 500. then figure about 200 or so to install everything else.

DP97ACCORDLX
01-17-2006, 08:20 PM
Yea ive got all the gear already its in my car. I just need to get the plexiglass and get it redone know what im sayin?

i have all the equipment already installed in my car. I just wanna do somethin else with it because show season will be here soon. I said $1000 because im not tryin to get that serious just somethin simple and clean.

sina518
01-17-2006, 08:29 PM
i got 2 15's in my accord and my box alone was 600 labor was well over 1000 on everything and its just regular wood and carpet and plexi

sina518
01-17-2006, 08:29 PM
so might want to find someone that does work on the side cause the audio shops get u on labor

BanginJimmy
01-17-2006, 10:10 PM
most shops charge between 50 and 70 an hour on labor and glass boxes are alot of labor, especially if you want it painted.

DP97ACCORDLX
01-18-2006, 06:15 PM
ill figure it out. I still need to get some ideas anyways.

:D

That is for his setup (the 2 diamond 15s). If you are talking about the beige BMW, i would guess conservatively $4000ish for labor alone. Most places wont even entertain the idea of glass (let alone getting it smooth enough to paint) for under $3000ish. Thats just been my experience though.

sina518
01-19-2006, 10:03 PM
my install everything with the equipment was about 4000 dollars but the equipment was expensive also the gold bimmer with equipment will run you about 6is if not more. so it all depends on how good you want to look and sound

sina518
01-19-2006, 10:04 PM
i got a couple of differnt ppl i can refer you to. and ill asure you you will be pleased with your install

let me know if you get any quotes from anyone or some of your buddies at the audio shops

sina518
01-23-2006, 10:01 PM
what kind of equipment do you have. its hard to just give a quote for 2 15's going into a accord. the box for the 2 15's has to be pretty much built into the car. im almost positive there is no premade box that will fit. another good thing to take into consideration is a sound dampining material. your whole trunk at the least should be covered or your going to hate the way your system sounds. also in the hondas based on experience the floor is real flimsy and that box is going to be heavy. you might have to give up ur spare tire and get a nice false floor. something that will flow with the box. were your going to put your amps how big yor amps are stuff like that. last but not least is material. capet, suede, vinyl, leather,. if you tell me exactly what you want i can call my buddy john he did my whole install. i can prolly get you a good deal. but just let me know

2 Platinum Series DB Drive Subwoofers, Rockford Fosgate Punch 800a2 Amp powering the subs. An Alpine V-Power 200w Powering my Interior Speakers and a Rockford Fosgate 1 Farad Digital Capacitor. The box I currently have is just a regular carpeted and vented box for 2 15's

sina518
01-24-2006, 09:00 PM
does your box fit in your accord

DP97ACCORDLX
01-25-2006, 06:18 PM
yes my box fits

sina518
01-26-2006, 06:25 PM
so build off that get it coverd in vinayl. panel it in. put a false floor. some plexi. save yourself some money. the sq of wood is much better than fiberglass.

Theoretically the shape of an eclosure should have no affect on the sound. In fact i thought glass would be better becuase it would be a smoother more rounded surface as opposed to the sharp right angles that wood makes. In a sealed enclosure the driver is going to respond to the amount of volume it is placed in and the shape, material, etc. SHOULDNT make a difference. At least this is how i have always thought about it...

DP97ACCORDLX
01-26-2006, 07:41 PM
I would like to just build off that because it would save some time

BanginJimmy
01-26-2006, 08:43 PM
quality of the install is all that really matters, but as rollin said the smooth contours of a glass box tends to provide smoother airflow. While this doesnt matter nearly as much in a sealed box. It doesnt affect the sound of a ported box. Why do you think that most world class SQ compeditors use fiberglass boxes with no 90 deg angles.

oh, and Sina. I'm not a pro, I just enjoy doing this for fun.

okay im sorry if im misleading this thread. i have no knowledge about box building and yes fiberglass looks better and yes most spl competitors deo use fiberglass because of the factr that you cant take 10 15" subwoofers and mount them to a flat peice of wood and put it in a astro van. but what some ppl have said to me especially when i start talking about fiberglass. key word here is SOME not all and yes these are installers and shop owners. they have said simply a regular wood box is better than fiberglass. now i dont know if this goes for seal or ported? and another thing dp 97accordlx said he wants two 15's in his accord. i have 2 15's in my accord so im tryn to help him out so sorry if i get off track and go into another subject. just stick to the subject. dont put in your smart ass comments, and how much you know and who and what thinks about your car. the subject is 2 15's being put into a 97 accord. and after paying 4000 dollars for my install which consist of mdf fiberboard and carpet. im tryn to save him money

sina518
01-27-2006, 04:19 PM

I would actually like to see a high end SPL vehicle that uses fiberglass. Most of the ones I know use more concrete than fiberglass.

BanginJimmy
01-29-2006, 05:25 PM
I have a Term-lab meter PM me and we can see about meeting up if you would like. If its a reasonable distance, I only charge about $15 for 30 minutes of use.

If you would prefer to use a shop, xtreme sounds in Woodstock has an old audiocontrol meter. Dont quote me on this, but I believe they charged me about $30 for about 15 or 20 minutes of use.

BanginJimmy

very nice install, but definately not an SPL set-up. 3 easy ways to tell
1. Diamond subs dont get loud
2. its a sealed enclosure
3. its on a wall facing to the side, not facing the front on the truck.

Sina: you know Im just messing with you! Yes, you are definatley trying to help this guy out with ideas, as well as spending his money wisely. Thats great you are helping as much as you can....

I would not necessarily say that wood or fiberglass "sounds" better (or worse) than the other...it all depends on the need and application. Money and time are also a big factor. Sometimes, you just "have" to go with fiberglass.... For example, I used to have a protege5 wagon. I wanted to keep as much of the trunk space as possible...so I need to build most of the sub enclosure out of fiberglass. I put 1 12" woofer in the side panel of the trunk, where only the floor and face were wood, and the rest was fiberglass. This allowed me to get space from the wheel well area, which was otherwise wasted space. My fabricated panel only came out 1/2" further than the factory panel...no real loss of space, and I had a 12" woffer in the car....
