I purchased this 1993 Honda Del Sol SI for $300 from a friend in need of money to pay his rent and an overdraft fee at the bank. needless to say i think i robbed him blink but that's what happens when people get despite.

When i purchased the car the body was banged up pretty well, the crankshaft pulley was missing and half of the bolt that held the crankshaft pulley on was still inside the engine. NOTE: the kid i bought this car from also said to me when i asked when was the last time he changed the oil and i quote " you have to change the oil in a car?" so yea from day one this car has been completely rebuilt.

When i finally received the Title for the car when took nearly two months, i tore the engine completely apart bolt for bolt.

Immediately after pulling the engine out

pretty burnt up

The crankshaft was cracked and no good due to the crankshaft pulley disappearing in it's magic trick

The bearings were scored hard

Pistons were pretty much toast, burnt toast...

Garbage Pistons and connecting rods

Just a pic of how bad the oil was when i crack this open

So after the complete tear down it was time to take the engine to the machine shop outside Schafferstown on 501 called Ober Performance - Machine Shop where i had the block and the head acid bathed, all the valves were replaced the block was bored .20 over and the notched to accommodate the larger connecting rods. With Vitara Pistons and the custom Connecting Rods fitted into the block snug, i bought a new Crankshaft and had it Mircopolished and checked structurally before that was installed. I also got the flywheel resurfaced

i used ARP head studs to fasten the head to the block.

once the head and the block were back together, i purchased a Stage 4, 4 puck disc Comp Clutch and a BLOX intake from IMW.

I bought a Turbo and Exhaust manifold, altho i recently bought a Garrett Ball bearing turbo to replace this one.

I ordered a 255 LPH Walbro Fuel pump and installed that.

I then got the Valve cover power coated Candy blue

I took the Transmission to have checked out, and everything seemed alright. So in the mean time the Del Sol looked like this:

After awhile of not having any access to an engine hoist... it took four brave crazy people to hand drop the entire engine back into the car, and let me tell you it was a very odd experience...

but the final result was not to bad...

The next step was to take her to IMW to get her all set up and tuned. 650cc Injectors were installed and my iridium spark plugs were replaced with NGK spark plugs. an electronic boost solenoid was installed and everything else that was needed was added, it was time to DYNO Tune the Del Sol when Johns computer picked up that the number 3 cylinder was not firing correctly... we tested spark, and fuel they were both a go, after a disappointing ordeal we found out that there was an 80% compression leak in the Head... I bent a valve trying to start it when the firing order was incorrect.

Most recently, I tore the head back off and took it back to Ober's and had all the valves replaced lucky for me i decided not to put the Head back on before I was deployed because now i am looking into purchasing a racing camshaft and new retainers and spring that will be installed by Ober's performance.

Small odds and Ends are also being purchased while i am way such as drilled and slotted rotors, HID Headlight Kit, and a high security Alarm system...

When i get back in February it should take me about a week to finish up what i have to then it is back to IMW to get a fresh tune with the Garrettball bearing turbo installed, and no compression leaks...

This is what i have done and what i want to do, if you have any advice for me i will gladly accept it and consider it thoroughly. i am no expert and i am still learning.

those look like vitara pistons to me. especially since they have the arrow toward flywheel side.
