Power brake in the auto and you can still get a mean launch. Build about 5-6 pounds at the line.

Good luck with it.

devinwebb907
12-01-2005, 06:25 PM
5-6 pounds? um im getting 15-17ish on my stock turbo, im sure the 50 trim wont make that huge of a difference. whats up with the downpipe?

12-02-2005, 02:17 AM
Looks like that's going to be fun :goodjob: Is that the cast SBR manifold or one of their tubular ones? I want to get the cast one from them, just wondering how you like it?

YokotaS13
12-02-2005, 08:12 AM
its not tubular, but hte ports are HUGE on it. great flow and you can get it with ext or internal wastegate setup. Its a really goodp iece.

devinwebb907
12-02-2005, 03:29 PM
what he said....and grant give me a call later, u said something about wanting to see my turbo. i just called you and you didnt answer.

well the 50 trim is in,
injectors is in
the FMIC is gonna be on tomorrow hopefully

gotta pick up some, AT fluid, oil, etc

12-05-2005, 08:25 PM
Anyone ran it or know anyone who is running? I'm curious as to what kind of number it actually produces since it's a hybrid.

grant...give me a call at some point tonight...tomorrow i guess, but tonight is better. i decided AGAINST stenciling the front mount, at least for now. keep a tab of how much i owe you. i also need to know if u can finish tomorrow or no....

YokotaS13
12-05-2005, 08:53 PM
if everything goes to plan, yes it will be done tomorrow, ill be there around 9-930 in the morning to start but it shoudl be fine, i gotta run to autozone in the morning on the way and grab some oil, your tranny fluid, a small section of hose, the intake filter, 3 inline hose connectors, and some hose clamps and as long as i dont have shit like your radiator not fitting, broken bolts nad other stuff, it should be done

devinwebb907
12-05-2005, 09:32 PM
so we're taking out my intake? damn....try and find a connector, if not then i guess i have no other choice..please leave a voicemail tomorrow also saying if u finished or not(i may or may not answer, as you know ill be in school).

YokotaS13
12-05-2005, 09:40 PM
yeha, ill do my best, i gotta check it out, if i can it will be better, but if not you always can find a buyer for more than you paid for it

Anyone ran it or know anyone who is running? I'm curious as to what kind of number it actually produces since it's a hybrid.

Thousands of dsm people have used fp reds and even more have used greens.

Anyway post more pics of the progress!

and might i say, this car has some of the worst rusted bolts i haev ever seen in my life, the bottom mounting point for the FMIC bolt is broken off, so i have a drill it out and put a bigger sheetmetal screw in to hold it. Not to mention EVERY bolt holding hte bumper on except the 5 center bolts broke
the 4 on the sides, and like 5 underneath

the radiator doesnt fit becuase of the wastegate, i had to cut off a large amoudn of plastic on teh left fan shroud and one of the cross supports, wil have to cut some of the blades off as well, the compressor BARELY fits by the block, the inlet on the 50 trim is 3" in diameter, its huge, and i made a huge mess doing it all. but it was fun, and my first 50 trim, but really easy once i got into it, minus all the shit setting me back

devinwebb907
12-05-2005, 09:52 PM
and cutting the lines w/ tranny fluid ;)

1439/2000
12-05-2005, 09:52 PM
How much was the turbo?

It's gonna be FUN!!!

Good luck.

YokotaS13
12-05-2005, 09:53 PM
lol yeah that too, forgot it uses tranny fluid. i had to do it because the top mounting bracket was soo rusted i couldnt get it off, i could just mount an external tranny cooler (just use an oil cooler )in front of your frount mount, itd be cool

i think it was like 855 and 150 or somethign for hte instal kit

1439/2000
12-05-2005, 10:00 PM
Ahhh the 155 2g install kit.

Any mods gonna get done to the tranny? Valves or anything?

YokotaS13
12-05-2005, 10:00 PM
shift kit very soon, eventually a 4k stall Torqe converter

devinwebb907
12-05-2005, 10:05 PM
^^maybe torque converter, definitely shift kit. im still not sold on torque converter. will somebody please explain to me in detail how it works...and how it will effect my daily driving? the way i think of it is like a stall converter, and my car wont launch untill a preset rpms are hit.

SleepingTalon
12-05-2005, 10:13 PM
You might wanna switch to slimline fans with that setup. That's how I do the install on them for that setup and larger. You still wanting to tune it, or you have something else planned?

YokotaS13
12-06-2005, 01:10 PM
lol, the let fans are not gonna work for a lil while, i had to hack it to get it to fit, but the radiator is in, everything works, runs, MAFS check engine light, but the GM MAFs works, no lumpy idle and wideband says its good. SO far it hits like 10 psi
but ive only been aroudn base

It depends on where devin wants to go to tune it

devinwebb907
12-06-2005, 03:47 PM
id like to get it tuned asap....also depending on the price of a shift kit, id like to go ahead and get that. 10psi on this feels ABOUT like 20psi on the other, maybe pulls a little harder, and definitely alot more turbo lag. something needs to be done about the launch, cant build up hardly any boost at all. i didnt try putting my boost higher because u told me not to, so...get back to me.

YokotaS13
12-06-2005, 04:26 PM
throw it top high it goes to 17 i think
Yeah the launch sucks, the shift kit would deff help, but it deff feels alot stronger adn when i lean it out just a bit to the 11.5 AFR range, it will be nice

devinwebb907
12-06-2005, 09:20 PM
i CAN put it on high? when can we tune it with MAFT/wideband? and uh..do you have a solution to the launch? is the tq converter the only thing you know of, if it is please explain it to me...

SleepingTalon
12-06-2005, 09:45 PM
I would get a SAFC in additon to the maft setup. You'll be able to do get a MUCH better tune when you use both together. It's very difficult to get a good tune with just the maft, so nearly all the dsm's owners I tune for opt for the safc to piggyback with the maft. You're gonna need a stall+ with new valvebody to get get the most out of that tranny. AT.dsm.org will have more of the info you're looking for. There are some people that have had a lot of success with modifying the automatic dsm tranny, so check it out.

YokotaS13
12-06-2005, 10:48 PM
the translab shift kit is the valve body upgrade
and the torque converter ist he other thing. When you egtt he TQ conv you will have a HUGE difference in a launch.

but for now the MAFT will work for you, and get you close enough

devinwebb907
12-06-2005, 10:54 PM
answer my question though grant....CAN I RUN my car with my boost controller on 'high' ?

SleepingTalon
12-06-2005, 11:49 PM
Do you have the maft setup to tune rpm load points? If not all it does is tune globally. It might get you "safe" but it wont get you close. With a 50trim setup, on that car, you need to tune to get that thing to spool up. Anyway, I guess you have it all under control, good luck with it.

devinwebb907
12-07-2005, 06:43 AM
yeah it wont spool worth a damn, im hoping the tune will help it out. grant im dying to turn up the boost on this, if you think it is okay to put it on 14/15 (maybe just for a few pulls) call and leave a voice mail please.

YokotaS13
12-07-2005, 02:26 PM
yeah you can man, switch it up, but watch that Wideband gugae, if it goes above 11.5 then get off the throttle, Ill work on it friday

And are you talking zbout the purple wire? It activates WOT stuff, but i dunno how to hook it up, no guidelines about it. Nor does it mention anywhere about it except in the programming.

devinwebb907
12-07-2005, 03:07 PM
well im smoking extremely bad, frmo around the area of my turbo...i chagned out the water in my radiator hose like you told me, scalded my face...im rather pissed about that. my car IS in running condition, but i leave smoke trails(blue smoke i might add) for ever and ever...id really like to get this fixed ASAP. by the way PICK UP YOUR PHONE(mine is turned off...so good luck calling me).

1439/2000
12-07-2005, 03:47 PM
Yeah don't disconnect hoses with hot ass coolant after the car has been on a while.

Check your turbos oil lines and tighten them when the car is cold.

devinwebb907
12-07-2005, 03:48 PM
gonna have to do that later, off to work here in a few...

YokotaS13
12-07-2005, 06:09 PM
ill check it out, im sure with all the oil i had all over your shit its still burning off, or you could just be burning it. Your cars not gona fall apart devin, believe me. Calm down, drive it like a normal person and youw il be fine, ill look at it when i can man

YokotaS13
12-07-2005, 06:10 PM
and go to mitsubishi and get that damn bolt i told you too a month ago, the one frmo mani to turbo

WINDSOR
12-07-2005, 06:35 PM
not too sure on that turbo. A buddy had one on his 1g laser and it hardly made any more power then his old 16g. You should have gone old school and got a 20g...just ask sleeping talon about the bushcur 20g..badass turbo for a dsm. It just sucks they are so expensive new but i've been trying to find one used for my dsm.

SleepingTalon
12-07-2005, 07:37 PM
Yeah, the Buschur 20g is a great turbo. Ah Conrad..I remember those days...hehe. It was nice to have a good street car once! You need to get the one with the 6cm housing though for it to truly run its ass off. The 50trim is a great turbo though if it's tuned properly. It's cheaper than the 20g, and it'll make more power with almost identical spool on the .48 housing. I would port the .48 to death, and put that on there for optimal performance. The next step up is the .63, so somewhere inbetween those two is a pretty sweet spot on a stock 2.0. Of course, you can also buy the 50trim in ball bearing trim now, and ironically enough, it's the same price as the journal bearing version, go figure. So, ideally, I would just get the 50trim, ball bearing, with the .63. That should run really well, and still make power at like 25-26psi.

devinwebb907
12-07-2005, 08:46 PM
umm im going to try and not drive it..i mean it's smoking from under my hood...BAD

YokotaS13
12-07-2005, 09:41 PM
grab a 14 MM check the mani to turbo bolts, make sure they are tight, adn check your oil lines, they may have backed off a lil, or check your stuff for leaks man. Do a little investigating befor eyou go crazy devin

devinwebb907
12-07-2005, 10:16 PM
im not going crazy, and tomorrow after school(second time having daillight, first time having---TIME) ill check it out. not driving it works out though, saves me gas money...and im not putting miles on it, who is complaining? if u wanna come check it out tomorrow uhhh post here or something, my phone is disconnected(hopefully sprint will fix it tomorrow), if not i can wait till friday no big deal. my power steering is still doing bad(it's completely full, but makes noise like a freight train when turning). there is a bad leak of something in that area, but it was 10pm at night when i saw it adn the only light i had came from my cell phone. ill let you know.

SleepingTalon
12-07-2005, 10:44 PM
How big is the feed line, -3? Anything bigger will blow the seals out on that turbo, just FYI. Where are you getting the feed from, the head or the filter housing? The power steering pumps leak on these cars all the time. It's probably the O-ring in the pump, so if you remove it and get the O-ring out, you can probably just match it up and put a new one in. I will warn you though, that it needs to be exact or it'll still be screwed up. Other than that, you can just go buy another one, but this way is much more cost effective.

YokotaS13
12-07-2005, 10:48 PM
lol power steering has to be leaking too, it was almost out of fluid after i let it sit for a while

its a -4 i believe, from teh filter housing, and another from the head, it required 2 lines

SleepingTalon
12-07-2005, 10:51 PM
That turbo has water jackets? Interesting, as almost all the hybrids use just oil...Just so you know, in my experience, and you can check the tech threads on Gadsm, but, -4 is too big, especially coming from the filter housing. -4 is ok to get from the head, but the oil pressure is almost always too high to get from the filter housing. 125psi with a -4 blows the seals right out.

YokotaS13
12-08-2005, 02:02 PM
well, it came with teh plug for the water line from the block, and came with an additional line that threads into the line where the water line would, then to the filter hosing, per the instructions that came with the PTE turbo, asys that if its not ran from the filter housing, warranty is voided. I used all hte items that the install kit came with, even the new bolts nad lock washers.

YokotaS13
12-10-2005, 09:41 AM
so a plume of smoke later, i figure out the return oil line is tweeked and loose, so i trimmed the hose to take out the kink, fixed the loose part and now the smoke is gone

however the PS resivoir is overflowing and the pump is making bad noises, i think its goingout,

But one ticket later for 14 over, 18lbs of boost, (cant get it higher) The need to resolder a resister in teh MAFT, and some more tuning, it will be better soon. ALl projects take time

devinwebb907
12-10-2005, 12:23 PM
first time ever getting pulled over, got a ticket :( cop didnt even care we were trying to fix my car.

YokotaS13
12-10-2005, 01:54 PM
henry county sucks, but we were speeding, so its not like we didnt deserve it though

12-11-2005, 08:05 PM
YOUR 17, HOW THE HELL DO YOU AFFORD ALL THIS STUFF!!! Also stop bitching about the ticket, you got a HUGE HUGE HUGE break, more than you now! Also be forwarned if you get 1 more ticket in the next 12 months you WILL lsoe your license for 6months, and there will be nothing you can do about it!

devinwebb907
12-11-2005, 08:50 PM
im really not bitching about it anymore, i really dont care. shit happens and u can ask grant, i really wasnt pissed when it happened. just ranting over the internet.

as for being 17...um i have a job and no bills(car paid off). other than taking the girl out and paying gas, i really have no bills. why shouldn't i have money?

MachNU
12-11-2005, 09:14 PM
what job can you have at 17 that pays out that type of money to afford all that. Fuck i am almsot 19 and with a full time job, i still couldnt fork out that amount of cash. But maybe since my parents dont pay for everything i have $500 worth of bills a month, not including gas!

devinwebb907
12-11-2005, 10:51 PM
exactly. i make maybe 150 a week, and my only bills are food and gas, and...bad habits/going out on weekends and what not. that was all from a little over a year of saving. plus a tranny rebuild and other mods.

MachNU
12-12-2005, 07:59 AM
man i wish it was that easy for me, but anyways gl with build, and nice car so far!
