sub/amp help

I need help picking a good sub/amp/wire kit setup. I just want one 12 that sounds decent, nothing too crazy just nice clean bass.

Would these work well together?

IMO yeah I mean I used to think when I was younger you needed a lot to produce a lot.
I found out by going to DB comps that you didn't need much. I use to run a single 12 MA audio 700watts with a 1200 watt amp and I did awesome and got pretty annoying real fast lol
How it sounds also has a lot to due with you enclosure and settings.
By pass box all day for maximum thump with a solarbaric sub.

I'm no audio/sound guru... But make sure the box meets the sub's cubic air space requirements. A sub just thrown into a wrong sized box can make the best sub sound shitty.

I'm gonna get a custom box.If I'm thinking right, the amp is a little over kill. You want to "match" the RMS ratings. That sub is rated at 500 RMS while the amp is 1300 RMS , assuming your running the 2 ohm configuration (which I believe you would since it's a mono amp). It won't hurt anything to have a slightly more powerful amp, just back the volume if you start hearing distortion. But I think that amp is a little over the top. Again, I'm really rusty at this audio shit, so I'm not completely positive I'm telling you correctly.


You'll need 4 gauge wire for the amp, I have 4 gauge Rockford Fosgate wiring running through my car, think it was a little over-priced for what it was... But it's stood up thru 8 years, 3 different cars and equally different configurations without fail. I've heard bad things about Monster cable, but I've never used it so I can't tell you first hand.

Do a 10" in a ported box with the recommended amount of volume and an amp with a couple hundred watts and you are good to go.

thanks for all the help! I did some more research and went with a amp thats slightly less powerful and goes better with the sub. I just ordered all the stuff now I just have to wait.

i have a pioneer 10" and a pioneer 800 watt amp...works well together and is sufficient..i may eventually move up to one 12 and a 1k watt amp...but nothing extravagant. i'm not trying to enter a competition or be a center of attention for thieves

Don't disrespect that TC Sounds sub with an HFI series Hifonics amp. Plus you don't necessarily need all that power for it either, 600-700 watts would work great. Enclosure is 90% of the deal with it, stick it in a prefab box and it will only perform so well. Build something more tailored to the sub and you'll see better results. If you have the room I'd love to see it in a t-line off of 500ish nice clean watts, or maybe a low ratio 4th order bandpass on slightly more.

Now, I wasn't hating on Hifonics, but the HFI series I'm not much of a fan of. Don't do near rated power, and are just built cheaper. For good cheap-ish amps look at Crescendo, Audioque, etc.

Gotcha, unfortunately I already bought all the stuff. I'm not a "pro" when it comes to audio so I don't know if I could tell the difference between a good amp or bad amp. Hopefully it'll sound decent ill post up how it sounds when I get it installed in the next week or two.

I ended up getting the tc sounds epic 12, Hifonics Hfi1000d mono amp, 1.80 cu. ft. 3/4MDF ported box, knukoncepts 4gauge amp install kit.

It will sound fine, just the amp won't do quite rated power. Make sure you have the amp set properly by someone with an o-scope or DD-1 to insure no clipping and enjoy it.

Cool, the amp does 750w at 2 ohms and the sub is only rated for 500rms should even if the amp puts out less I would think it should be atleast around 400-500 which should hopefully go well with the sub. I can't wait to hear it though.

Only thing is like I said you need to have someone with a DD-1 or O-scope tune the amp to insure a clean signal. You want to get the most clean power (no clipping) out of that amp that you can. If you have trouble finding someone close to you let me know and I'd be glad to meet you in Helen or somewhere and tune it for you with my scope or DD-1.
