Oil and filters

I bought myself a new Ram 1500 with the 5.7 this summer and my free oil changes are up so now its time to do my own. I already plan on doing full synthetic 5w20 but I'm not sure on brand, or if there is really a difference between them. As far as filters go, should I just stick with K&N or is there something else I should be using?
