i have a 98 civic,the transmission is makin a horrible grinding noise when the clutch is engaged,no so mcuh on the intial let out but under accel or dec and tends to go away a little more the higher you get in gears..im tryin to decide between (ISB) or throw out bearing..or could it be more simple..any help plz

Does it have any oil on it? It could be lack of that, or it could be a gear issue…such as they're on the way out the door. ch The first thing a transmission is going to do on its way out is make noise…so I'd check the lubrication first. That's about as much as I can tell you. Hopefully someone that's had one of your transmissions apart will chime in here and tell you exactly how to fix it

It is normal for these trannys input shaft bearing to go bad. A sign will be noisy on decel/accel also can leak fluid into the front side of case (appear as if a rear main leaked)

Ive replaced 3 input shaft bearings on hondas ive owned through the years. very common.

rule of thumb:
if it makes noise when you press the clutch pedal it is the throwout bearing because that is when it comes in contact with the pressure plate.
if it makes noise when the clutch is not pressed but the noise goes away when the clutch is pressed then it is the input shaft bearing -the noise stops because the pressure change allows the input shaft bearing less play.
