i recently bought a 96 civic ex.the original owner put in a y7 motor. i noticed the "CEL" was on so i hooked up my obd2 reader and it wouldnt link. i also noticed a series of plugs under the hood that had no where to go. so, i was thinking he still had the y8 harness. i havent checked the ecu yet. could this be the issue for my CEL to be on? if so, what do i need to do to fix the problem so i can pass emissions? thanks in advance

chance are:
hes using vtec harness
p2p (d16y8) ecu.
if its wrong ecu, its missing atleast: knock sensor, vtec solenoid

understandable. so assuming it is the p2p , id need to switch it out...what about the harness?

the harness will be fine. just will have extra plugs.
its just that the motor is missing knock sensor and vtec solenoid so it'll throw 2 codes for sure.

also 3 wire iacv on y7 and 2 wire on y8 assuming its manual.

yea its a manual. i have to have emissions in my county and it wont pass with a CEL. sorry to bother yall, im just confused when it comes to ecu/harness issues. if i change out the ecu, itll still throw the cel because of the harness? just let me know what i need to do. thanks you guys

Ok here is what is going to happen.

Even if you change ecu's it wont get rid of all the cels.
At the very least it will still have an idle system malfunction cell due to using a 3 wire iacv (that probably wasnt rewired if they're using a y7 now. unless they changed to the y8 intake manifold.) Basically D16y7 use an Iacv on the bottom of the throttle body, and it has 3 wires. EX's or any vtec uses a 2 wire iacv.
