Alright guys so i been having this problem for about a week or so & i need your opinions
i have a d15b7 single slammer ....about last week i noticed it was idling a bit weird...not up n down but like a harley bike would..i thought hey maybe its the spark plugs, changed that, did NOTHING..then it randomly started over heating and i thought since i was runnin on water n its winter, the water is evaporatin & i was runnin with NO thermostat so i went and put in a new thermostat and antifreezee, after that was added it started smoking but it wasnt vapor since of the cold weather, it smoked regardless..so alot of people tell me its the head gasket thats bad but one of the symptons is milky oil right?? & well i checked it number of times, n the oil seems dark & normal. some say its the valve seals n some say its the rings.. im confused and i dont wanna change anythin else until being sure... what you think???

The smoke would be darker if it was oil based. May be a head gasket. Is the oil milky under the oil cap?

no sir but id have to take the VC off n double check

it could be the head gasket.. i had oil and antifreeze mixing, dipstick oil was normal color, when i finally pulled the vc it was milky. coolant is thicker than oil and could be settled below where your dipstick reads..if your coolant starts disappearing i'd pull the head.

most head blown gaskets dont mix oil & coolant. you need to pick up a block test kit from any auto parts store and test the cooling system if you want to verify. classic symptoms of a blown head gasket

Yup sound like a head gasket. My dc was doing the same thing but no milky oil one way to find out is go to auto zone and rent a compression gauge and check yo compression if you have anything close to 135 or less is the head gasket.

do this....here is the tester @ autozone. You'll still need the dye, sold separate.

things that can cause overheat is blown headgasket, preignition, detonation, cylinder wall damage but check you antifreeze to see if there is little oil mixture since you can't tell on your dipstick.

Head gasket failure does not have to have oil mixture. Ive seen them blow white smoke and look completely normal when you pull the valve cover. You could do a leak down test but sounds like you def have a head gasket failure.

Sounds like you need a new head gasket. Happened to me with my hatch a while back and finally i just drove the shit out of it and got a new motor in it lol but yeah you dont have to have oil and coolant mixture to have a bad head gasket...

I had a rav4 that had thesame problem. My oil didn't show any sign of failure gasket but white smoke and bad idle are sign of blown gasket. Just change out the gasket and you be go to roll again..

A head gasket can give in many different places. It may be that it is in such a place where it doesn't really mix the antifreeze with the oil so much as it just immediately burns it up. And to actually have visible amounts of antifreeze on the dipstick would have to be a very advanced case. If it just started then it most likely would not show.
Don't drive the car. Its the head gasket...

my friend had the same problem and his oil was normal but the white smoke was coolant and he will run out of coolant fast he changed the headgasket and problem fixed!

Not necessarily true. Low compression alone doesn't warrant a bad head gasket since worn rings, valve seats, and poor valve adjustment can also effect one cylinder more then the other.
You do need to do a compression test/leak down test and post the readings though. Anything more then about a 10% difference between cylinders is considered abnormal. At the same time, remember that you have a wet intake manifold and a leaking intake manifold can leak coolant into the runners and into the cylinders. Looks just like a blown head gasket, but no coolant gets into the oil.
EDIT: Seems like we haven't even confirmed yet that it's burning coolant, and not oil. What does the smoke smell like? Are you loosing any coolant?

I recently blew my head gasket on my d15b7 too. It was in a location on the back of the block and no oil/coolant was mixed. The best way to see if it's a blown HG is by using the block test as mentioned before. It's fairly cheap and takes literally only 5 mins. If it is the HG remember that when replacing it you should get the head resurfaced in case of any warping

i wouldn't get it resurfaced until you get a str8 edge and feeler gauge and compare to spec first before just jumping right to the machine shop

I was told by many people that a machine shop would be the best route to go regardless of what you could see since there could be little things wrong that wouldnt be noticeable.
