I am working on building a boosted D series. I am not buying any ebay parts and trying to make it reliable as possible. Power numbers should be around 300+/- to the wheels. My question is when should the transmission be beefed up? Will the trans hold up at these power numbers, with only a clutch and flywheel? If it needs to be beefed up where is a good place to have it done?

setup will be....

D16Y8

Turbo- Precision 4831B .63 a/r
GO-Autoworks Cast manifold
Tial 38mm WG
HKS SSQV BOV
FMIC 2.5 piping
Full 3" turbo back exhaust
750cc RC injectors
Walbro 255
RCautoworks custom d16 rods and vitara pistons (http://www.rcautoworks.com/eg/product_info.php?cPath=79&products_id=293)(75.5mm)
Comp Clutch stage 4
Comp Clutch 9lb flywheel
Tuned on chrome

any input would be greatly apprenticed.

All I know about D series trannies is that the automatics blow up at 200whp. Constantly.

If you have the money, d2b might be a nice idea.

haven't really thought of that, thanks.

Anyone else have any input? Trying to do this right, but don't wanna change the transmission if it's not needed.

Don't forget ARP headstuds

Trans will be fine at 300whp. Ive only ever had the ISB fail, but idk what the mileage was on the trans. It had been well abused. You'll want a LSD though.

O.P.- are you going to build the bottom end and run a stock head?

Depends, how my wallet feels after list above. Bisimoto 2.4 cam is possible with valve train of course.

Here is my suggestion

Get the custom length rods, or the vitara's are going to suck big dick. The compression sucks with stock length eagles, and makes for a laggy, not much throttle response type engine.

I recently built a custom rod/ vitara for a customer and it made 255 @ 14 psi, on stock head.
The trans itself will hold, but depending on your driving you may break a diff, or rip teeth off the ring gear on wheel hop situations.

You will need a 3 bar map sensor, a boost controller etc...

On the site it says custom length rods, 9:1 CR...My civic w/ LS swap made 250whp with an ebay kit, I was happy with that power level...just had too many issues with compressor surge, BOV sticking, etc. I know I need the MAP sensor and a manual boost controller is on the list also. A lot of little stuff that I need that not listed above...motor mounts, boost gauge, etc.

I've got a glowshift boost gauge and an HKS EVC5 boost controller for sale if you're interested. $20 and $300.

Yeah, trans will be fine at 300whp. LSD is always a plus though.. i made 280/206 and loved it.
