What's your biggest problem with IA?

Lets say you stopped coming here for a while, and you decided to drop in and read this... what was your reason for leaving? This isn't directed towards anyone in particular or to prove a point, but I think if we can get some opinions on the site, we can fix problems that THE PEOPLE have with the site.

Sold it :)...

No, seriously for me, after so many years of being on IA from day 1 +'modding, Needed a break. Plus, I really stopped modding cars. ( maybe in future i will mod something ) .

Focusing more with my fam and job. Staying busy busy...

Mods deleting posts and over moderating the classifieds section. The mods feel the need to enforce morals in addition to rules it seems. Sometimes i get a post deleted before i can even refresh my screen, mods really need to take a step back.

After the first initial change the whole forum was changed. Things were in different places...

Before that mods were starting to get tight, over editing and deleting posts.

I did like the blog section on how it use to be. BTW my blog section got deleted < Pretty much what ended it.

If anyone has a question on why something got deleted and cant get a response out of anyone, feel free to private message me and Ill find out why. Getting your shit deleted and not knowing why can be pretty shitty. Trust me, I was banned multiple times, and talked a lot of shit. But im still here and I still enjoy coming here now that the server has long been fixed.

Either way, anyone is welcome to hit me up anytime for whatever. No homo.

Start posting more, people will give you reputation points if you arent a troll. Stuff gets unlocked after you've proven yourself a normal member not just on here to sell shit.

Note, that a lot of the old IA moderation crew has been removed and new people have been assigned. Some of us have been around here a long time and some not so long. If you feel like you have followed the rules and had a thread/post deleted contact one of us.

Honestly, I have to agree with sinfix and the others. I stopped posting a long time ago after joining because it seemed over enforced.

I hope that doesn't offend the current mods because I have noticed an improvement, and that's why I'm starting to post regularly now.

The other thing that really turned me off of IA was all the bitchy members that act like IA is a members only club. But I guess all you can do is ignore those people until they grow the fuck up

Seems like a quite a few people feel more like crying about stuff than recognizing when stuff has changed. If any of would ever check out the rules change, you'd see the changes that have been made. Seems like it's just easier to complain than to see/read if your complaints are being heard. Later, QD.

haha Ive been banned on this forum so many times, pissed off a few moderators, had threads/posts deleted on a regular basis, but so the fuck what? Im still here, and now im a mod. Being on here is a privilege, its free, and nobody forces you to sign up or post. I post here because its the only decent Georgia based automotive community that has been established for a long time. You're 20 and only been on here for a year, maybe want to rethink what you consider a members only club and who needs to grow up?

I was on here long before a year ago ;) I used to post regularly under a different screen name many years ago. The reason I stopped posting was the usual IA drama that got repetitive and old. Mods being over excessive. Maybe you took what I said wrong? Or maybe I said it wrong.

I came back because the new mods were more lax and everyone was chill. Point blank.

This is not wal-mart where the customer is always right. We made very reasonable rule adjustments if these still don't soot you then you'll always complain.
If you are having threads deleted then that sounds like a good reason to PM a Mod and ask why. Unless you know well why and are just crying about it.

People complain about the rules and you tell them they didnt read the rules correctly. There's no misunderstanding here. There's you doing something people do not agree with and them complaining about it. Its not a failure to read or understand the rules. In every post you continue to tell people they're not reading the rules. There's no confusion about the rules.

Its getting better...... but it still feels like pulling teeth to get the mods to loosen up.

there's many examples of threads being deleted, but just to use a silly one as example......

I had a thread deleted in the sports section talking about Boise State, Bangingjimmy was posting support for Boise State and i was debating BSU's easy schedule compared to SEC teams. I posted Boise State's Bowl record compared to SEC teams and said to Bangingjimmy

"didnt expect you to have much to say after i laid out the facts for you"

That post was deleted...... in addition to all of the conversation leading up to it. Nobody was cursing each other, no "fuck you"s or "your mom's a whore", just a pretty run of mill football argument.

Point im trying to make, Mods sometimes delete posts simply because they dont agree with you. If 2 people on IA are arguing with each other, mods shouldnt get in the middle of it until it gets overly confrontational. Our current mods break out the riot gear for pillow fights.

i understand that posts are gonna get deleted and some, understandably so..

here is an example of a post i requested to be deleted..
i had a picture in the car pics section of my civic and in the background was my friend who is overweight.. somebody made an obscene remark that was completely unnecessary. i asked for it to be removed, and it was..

an example of a post that should not have been deleted..
some guy was selling a bike rack but had it mislabeled as to what it would fit... i simply put a post with what it would actually fit, not in any condescending fashion, just to inform the potential buyer of what it will fit.. MY post was deleted within 12 hours but the FS thread remained up..

This is the type of post deletion that upsets me..

First of all, I've never really had a problem here. I've been banned a few times but shit happens and life goes on. I've met a lot of cool people through here and hope this site stays and activity increases.

Now with that said some of the mods do need to loosen up and and stop being defensive. The way I see it is, if no one is getting physically hurt, and no theft or fraud is going on, then people should be allowed to do whatever they want to do on here just my 2 cents.

And that's what this thread is about right? Us, the members giving our 2 cents about IA?

I dont think that its necessarily the decline of IA or has much to do with its moderators. Its a combination of things that fell into place over the past few years and a slower IA is the byproduct. Facebook is becomming the best way to stay in touch with friends online, where 10 years ago enthusiast forums served this purpose. The "tuner scene" has been declining for 5 years now. The economy has been declining for a few years now. The target audience is growing older. As we get older, we gain other things to occupy our time (work, girlfriends, wifes, kids, and bills). The market in general is a short window for most. Sure, we all still lover cars of all kinds, but as you get older, you have less time to deal with them. When you do have a problem with something, most head to the forums for THEIR specific vehicle, its more direct and detailed. IE: when I have DSM, M3, or STi issues that need sorted, I make a pass through the dedicated forums, not here. When I want to see local pics of cars or shows, I come here.

Grant it, there are exceptions to the scenarios above, but I think for the most part, many will agree.

Grant it, there are exceptions to the scenarios above, but I think for the most part, many will agree.

pretty accurate, but I think its cool that this is the melting pot, its a local general car forum for enthusiasts of all makes so we can all come together and talk and argue and sell crap and arrange meets.

my 2 cents, this site is pretty cool and convenient if you have a quick question or you want to buy/sell something in atlanta, or like tnomud said, when you want to read up about a recent meet, but i've noticed basically all the posts in the whoreslounge are just public conversations between a few friends and if a random person chimes in its "WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU!?!?!?!!?" besides the WL there's really not much left for IA to offer

To all the folks asking the point of this thread, it's pretty much something I felt could help after a thread I read in the Super Mod section. I personally believe that nobody's post in here should cause any trouble, but maybe the mods/admin step back and try to figure out how we can better the site. I think mods and members should work together, because at the end of the day we're here for the same reason... we delete something that's not just blatantly asking for it, maybe we should PM the member and give them a heads up. Members have a problem with a mod, make a callout thread. Mods have a problem with a member, make a callout thread... if your thread sucks dick and you're just butt hurt, the responses will show.

agreed 100% That being said, model specific forums also have their drawbacks as well. Model specific forums are all about versy specific stuff and the blinders are on. It gets irritating at times. Some forums (EX: BMW forums) have members that have the personality of treestumps. This forum is filled with some fun folks at times.

I think on the whole post deleting subject, to please both sides a pm and time limit should be established. Something like you have 24 hours to fix post/thread from when mod contacts you to tell you what is wrong with post and/or how to fix problem. First, complaints later on why it was deleted will not matter because they will have a pm of why. Secondly, IA members will have a chance to fix their problems and learn from mistakes, face it everyone doesn't read terms and updates. This should also eliminate mods froim being "complete asses" in the eyes of IA members and just deleting post randomly without warning.

the biggest problem this site has is the "scene" itself. the biggest issues imo:

1) its just not as big as it used to be. a lot of people got out of imports when the honda "scene" passed its prime. the 2001+ civic killed it.
2) seems like most people don't really have anything to contribute any more. i feel i probably fall into this category. there are plenty of people on the site with years of experience, but when its generally either a bunch of broke kids asking stupid questions, or people trying to prove their e-masculinity, it leaves little reason to post. most of the veterans or innovators just do their thing without sharing. plus some of the mods on here honestly are ignorant and have virtually no real experience with cars.
3) perception. i lurk the site now occasionally, but i was so put off by the childishness years ago that i don't spend nearly as much time as i used to on here. hopefully the site is taking a better direction, it does seem to be much faster now.

That's why the posts are moved to their specific locale. To help drive up "business" in that section. The WL gets it's views even with those topics being moved. Now I don't care how it's set up. I missed going to the huge meets that used to pop up and the random long ass goofball threads. I dunno where things strayed but it seems like it was a lot of " grow up" and not what I ended up liking about this place. THE WL was in my eyes meant to be stupid and I met some good people on here ( Sammich for one). And from time to time when I have the occasional mechanic question I usually come here first. I don't have decades of experience and I'll admit I jumped into this when the scene was in hospice but hell I decided to come back more after my wreck a few weeks back. I hope going forward that if it doesn't go back to where it was at least go better. I miss the hilarity..

Its just funny how a thread gets made like this like every 5 years. These are the reasons why

1) The "scene" is no longer what it used to be. Its gotten bigger in some ways and much smaller in others.

2) Competition- It used to be if you had an import you went to Importatlanta or importlounge. Now, you have competing forums like WRXatlanta, EVOAtlanta, 240ATLANTA, EastcoastHonda, that have split the demograhpics up, and, the national sites have gotten bigger like ClubLexus, Honda-Tech, etc

3) Meets have become CLICKY- I dont know when it specifically happened, but at some point MEETS became less about hanging out and showing off a car you took pride in, and became SOLELY about pleasing others. The generation taking over the car world cares so much more about what the others think that they churn out cookie cutter, after cookie cutter, after cookie cutter car that just plain GETS BORING. I mean Chad recently couldnt find 1 honda in atlanta to shoot for a magazine. Not because there isnt a nice honda in atlanta, but because they all look the same. Or they think their daily driver is ok for a magazine because it has stock interior and CRAZY STANCE y0!

4) MONEY- Again, i dont know when it happened, but somewhere along the line the people replacing the OGs make far less money or just dont want to spend it. Go to any local meet, and truly look at the cars there. Garbage. I dont really care about your $500 wagovan with $800 +0 offset CCW knockoffs. Civics all look the same, 240s all look the same, no one has any real style anymore, and even less care about being fast. When did it become cool to just put some DOODOO wheels on your car and slam it for the least amount of money possible? My old roomate had a $3000 92 LS400, he puts the CHEAPEST coilovers he can find on it, with some REPLICA KNOCKOFF BMW wheels on it with the CHEAPEST CHINESE Tires he could find, and people actually said "WOW YOUR CAR IS COOL". What retard on this planet thinks that is COOL and justifies being a "car enthusiast". I dont know who i blame more, the kid building the car, or the kids too chicken shit to tell him hes a retard and STOP other kids from copying him.

5) HIGHSCHOOL MENTALITY- What we are witnessing is the changing of the guard really. Most people who were big into cars 10 years ago, are now in their mid to lower 30s (or 50s if your QD). They grow up, they have families , they have more money, they care about other things. I remember the epic battles and drama that would happen on here, but i just dont remember it being as childish as it is now. Certain people had clicks, or groups, but for the most part everyone got along. You had the SM and BG drama, i know george and i got into it a few times, me vs tank, TS vs BG etc, but , the majority all were cool with each other.

Somewhere that stopped. Now you have these niche groups that inbreed and shit talk everyone else, and when their own group out casts them, they become best friends with the opposing group like it never happened.......its like people lack a backbone. If i DONT LIKE SOMEONE, there is nothing that person can do to change my mind. I may decide to tolerate them, but ill never just flip a switch and change my mind and act like its all ok. That shows a lack of character. Guys and girls are guilty of this.

So, itll never be the same, because thats life. Shit changes. you cant MAKE people be more involved, you cant make people be less stupid. As i get older i learn that more and more, and i just decided it wasnt for me anymore. Sure i still drive an Acura, it has wheels, and exhaust, but thats where it stops. If you ever see me at a local meet, remind me to shoot myself in the head with my gun because i really just want no part of it.

I spend my time going to NFL games, NBA games, MLB Games, on vacation, or with my GF. Ive chosen that path because for me its better and i get more reward from it than i do from cars or the car scene or logging onto a forum.

I post here to argue about sports and politics when im bored, thats about as little interaction as im willing to have right now.

I read on Time magazine that most forums in the USA are up in members by 18% and down 53% over the last 3 years in traffic/time logged/page views.

I predicted this back in late 06 early 07... However, never thought it was going to be as bad. That's why most forums were up for sale or sold.. But being in the online business for so long, you couldn't really compete , unless you had a deep budget.
When you add that factors that Mike just added with his post , it may just get worst.... Just 5/6 years ago it seems like quite a few 23 to 25 year old Had better income then today and were more creative.
It was easy to see at a car show or drag strip several car owners saying they dropped 50k into their cars.. And YOU COULD see the investment... Now a days, .. You see only a few IF THAT. The rest are seriously a joke... Rusted hood, home painted crap..bubble gum wheels.. Etc... What at one time was normal... Is now something special.

I love cars, Will always admire nice cars..always will.. Honestly, I do not miss waking up at crack of dawn for a car show.. Or spending all night at the strip to get in 3 runs.. Not worth it, for now.. Will I ever do it again.. Who knows.. I have a family, + a beautiful daughter and a great career. All those important things keep me tied up and have more value over anything.

I will continue to drive my CRV around and admire nice whips when I see one....if I want to cruise around and enjoy the nice weather, I'll drive the C5.

Its the no patience generation though. I call it the Facebook generation. Filled with instant gratification, instant acceptance, destroys creativity and free thinking.

There may be more members on forums, but the amount of time they spend on the forum is way down I would think. Forum interaction is not what it used to be.

^Pretty much. Based on the last Tunerfest, it showed people would rather come out (in the rain mind you) than sit indoors on the computer. People still have love for the scene, you just have to give them somewhere to show it. However I will say this new generation has me concerned, to say the least. But that's not limited to the ones that claim to be automotive enthusiasts. I think they must be putting something in the water.

^That's the whole problem right there. People care too much about what you're driving/what you've built rather than the community as a whole. Based on that statement no wonder the automotive culture is deteriorating like it is. Maybe thinking all of Atlanta is fine is being optimistic, but there are true enthusiasts left believe it or not. But if they have to deal with being treated as if what they drive/have built is directly correlated with their worth in the community, I don't blame them for staying at home.

I think I will back some of the statements of the Tuner scene being dead, with some random facts:

- The NOPI Nats was one of the largest tuner shows in the world.........gone

- HKS, Wings West, APC, and dozens of others that were 99.9% tuner companies.........gone

- remaining companies that started making tuner stuff were either bought up by others, or started making stuff for domestics/trucks.

- Sport Compact Car Mag, Toy Machine Racer, C16, etc.............gone.

I am older and also an Industry guy. I remember the sport back in its prime. It was a cool scene and 10 million times bigger than it is now. It climaxed, and is done for lack of a better word. Sure, it still exists to some degree, but not like it did. Much of the scene are folks that are buying "once hot" Civics/Tegs and putting them back into circulation solely because its what they could afford. It's simply a product, trend, and its life cycle. Just like MiniTrucks, at some point you grow up and tastes change. Don't tell me at 40 years old and $100K annual salary that you'd pick a 20 year old Civic/DSM with stretched tires over a Stock Tahoe........

II buy a car and mod it up to how I like it, and do what I can. I don't need any big build to have friends or make friends or do anything. And I don't need a persona to make anything happen. I am jitb online and in person. I am my own person.

I also don't need a car to validate anything I have going on in my life. I have always bought what I want modded what I wanted and could for what I wanted at the time.

The fact that you think that anything I have built or not built makes or breaks is a joke within itself. I don't need to list stuff I have owned and stuff I have built because who cares.

The same reasoning you are throwing at me I can throw back you, in the sense that the last car anyone remembers you in is a corvette with spray painted wheels, and before that the civic back years ago.

Over the top is a opinion, do what you want and be happy, don't need anyones approval on anything never have never will.

What jitb has done or not done has nothing to do with IA, truth is IA turned to shit, when you and paul stopped doing the things that made ia great. Everyone grows up and life changes and people have to do put things in priorities. But that's what it boils down to with this place. Shit happens people move on, but its not the folks of Atlanta fault that ia isn't the place to be anymore.

How is that a problem ?

Dude, wake up bro and face reality... I'm not going to leave my house to see non creative anything. 99% of us careless if someone got beat up at a meet or event... MOST people want to go out and see different creative cars or whatever it is.. That's my point.

I go to car events, to see shit out of this world..

I go to gun shows, to get deals or look at stuff I may never own.

I go to Morton's steak house because I like good steak.

Fanboy's are the ones who hang around and circle jerk each other.

Nowhere is really "the place to be" on the Internet right now. Forums, as a whole, aren't shit right now. They are surviving, not thriving. It seems that everyone is doing their own things now and post a little online. Forums aren't hopping, meets (at least around Atlanta) aren't hopping; nothing really is. It's been that way all year. You've (JITB) had several very good meets this year, but that's really been it. I mean I know there is Alliance, but that's one time a year for Atlanta. Seems like people are just kind of hanging out with each other offline....which is actually not a bad thing. Hell I still get on here out of sheer habit. But anyone can tell you know that I don't get on here nearly as often as I used to. I rarely post like I did.

Will IA ever get back to its heavy traffic flow days? I doubt it. Not because of what's happened to IA over the last year or so. Just because of the times. Forums, just like APC, Sport Compact Car and NOPI, are headed to the past.

I guess time will tell, huh? Lolol. Later, QD.

I don't know about all you guys, but to me, a car enthusiast, that is a true car enthusiast, never "moves on". This isn't just a hobby, it's not a phase, it's not something I like to do when I have time, it's a lifestyle. From the time I wake up to the time I go to bed I'm thinking about cars, about modding, about racing them, about what I want, and about what I'll have in the future. I'm never going to get over this. Not for a wife nor kids. If my girl doesn't like this about me, she's gone. Just like that. If I ever get married my wife will understand or we're not getting married. I'm not a bitch, and I don't let girls have my balls. I'm my own person and I live for cars, to work on them, to mod them, to race them, to look at them, to read about them, I just love it.

I met a guy on the sentra forum who has a vq'ed swapped sentra running 12's all motor. You know how old he is? 78. Yes 78. Seventy eight years of age old-at the track with us, drag racing and having fun. That's going to me when I get old.

I'm going to school to be an optometrist, they make decent money. You know why? It's not because I care about houses or jewelry. It's the only way I know I can afford to have a gtr and a decent living because I damn sure can't afford one making 19.30 an hour. This obsession of cars, is all consuming and everything else comes second, well within reason of course.

Just being honest. If there is someone from the car scene I want to really hangout with, I will call them and let's go drink a beer...But to sit and look and rainbow looking civics and 240.. Na , scratch.

I'm living in reality. Shit ain't like it used to be. You have to look far and wide to find something that hasn't been done before. If you want to use that as a cop-out to be anti-social then so be it. I'll admit it's rare I see a car that truly impresses me nowadays. But that doesn't mean I stay at home, rather I've turned my attention to motorsports to keep me entertained. But that doesn't mean I'm going to forgo the social interactions with people who share a common interest. Without the people, none of this is worth a damn.

I remember the good ole days when "building a car" involved a shell, a welder, a block, and tools. Apparently "building a car" now consists of taking it to the tint shop, bolting up some fucked up wheels from a car that has absolutley no relation, and 4 mismatched craigslist tires. I agree with Julio 100%. when I go to a car show, I want to see shit nicer than my secretary's car or my wifes car. How many times do we have to move C&O to stop a row of 66 stock 1995 BMW's, 350Z's, and C5 Vettes? When I go to a car show, I dont want to see the same shit I see on GA400 during rush hour. I want to see Bigfoot, The General Lee, and some damn significant cars.

Btw - before You throw at people, have more info.. I actually had 2 silly civics.. The EK.. And EG that I really never talked about.. But I'm sure if you do a search on here in the pics section you will find.. Build from ground up.. Bought totaled w/ salvage title, fixed it up.. Sold it.. A few people on here knew about it.. I bought parts from Mike ( Vteckidd ) .
Had a TT .. Which did a few mods and ran slow ass 13's... And yes, I still own the vette.. With POWDER coated wheels from Millers....

I'm not trying to take away from the fact you started one of the largest, if not the largest, import forums in the southeast. That's all well and good. But your statements in this thread would lead one to believe you've given up on the local (and national) automotive scene. My point is, that kind of mentality coming from you, since we're bragging a little, is pretty sad.

And yes I've been to meets lately, we tend to have a good time. Probably because most of us realize it's not just about the cars and their owners' respective claim to fame. It's about having a good time with like-minded people.

Your family should be your #1 priority, no doubt. No hobby is that important. But just because life happens doesn't mean you have to give it up. Calm down, Sparky. See this is part of the reason the scene fades as well. People get too serious about things and take things too personal. I, simply, asked why is it sad because Julio stopped going to meets? Not sure where your response comes from.

Like above, dude, I was wondering why the dude thought it was sad that you don't participate in the "scene" like you used to. As if once you're in the tuning hobby, you have to remain there for life. Like you said, priorities shift. There are so many "classic" original members of this site that would put yours and my input into the hobby to shame. Nowadays, they have no involvement in it anymore. They grew out of it. No less respect to them for it.

/rant

i guess for me thats the problem. I dont really care anymore. I realize i dont care about the cars, i dont care about the people, and its not stimulating to me anymore. the car crowd just seems to reek of below average intelligence. I just got to the point where i cant hold a normal conversation with them, or talk about other things because they are so GOD DAMN STUPID. So i gave up. Id go to a meet and people would be talking about stuff i really didnt care about. When the DOODOO zero offset wheels became the craze, i was done with it.

maybe im just old and cynical. I appreciate cars still, but nothing like i used to. I was in Georgetown this weekend and saw this crazy modded out GTR, and i didnt even stop to take a picture. I was like "eh, cool" and kept going. But i passed a champs at Northpoint last week and saw the new Lebron 9s and was like OH SHIT, took a picture and bought a pair. Go figure. Guess my tastes changed.

Im not saying every car person is an idiot, im just saying it seems like MOST of them are. Most of them will never amount to anything, most of them live with mommy and daddy, most of them dont do anything worthwhile for a living, most of them have no education, no creativity, etc. I probably was A LOT like them, but i grew out of it, so i dont want anything to do with them anymore.

Alot of people at hitting the nail on the head. Nopi/apc and other big names are gone. I would love to see some of our sponsors have a import atlanta meet sponsored who ever. The reason alot of the big names are gone is becase the money is not there alot of the reason alot of small performance shops are gone. Like vteckidd said The import crowd just seems to reek of below average intelligence when I was open for bussiness I wanted to beat my head aginst the wall talking to some of them. I could predict what they were going to say before they say it. First words are always whats the lowest you will take, Take any trades? and what do you mean you wont trade your car you have forsale for my xbox skateboard and a roof bike rack?

I know with the calls i was getting the other small shops were getting the same calls. And lets be honest the whole import scean is sketchy the people are sketchy everyone that owns a honda lives in fear of something happening to it. Its always a big secret whats under the hood. At the same time no one with a high dollar car like a gtr/vette/evo or a sti wants to drop off there car at a shop full of junky honda zip tied and primered together.

I think alot of it is the import crowd Not the whole car enthusiast crowd. becase like i said the import crowd is cheap and has alot of sketchy people in it because of it! Go to a corvette meet and its a older crowd and well every one has money to buy a vette so people that own them arnt looking to steal someone elses vette. Not saying that it does not happen but its few and far between..

I have a classic mustang that i use to go to a ton of shows with it was alot of fun everyone is super friendly and everyone had there hood open becase is not a big sketchy secret whats under the hood beacase there are not alot of sketchy people around. There was a huge diffrence in the type of people in the import and other car meets. Driving the mustang if another classic car owner say me I would get a thumbs up or a friendly wave, Unlike driving in a moded honda if another honda/import owner gets beside me Its OMFG there cant be another import with in a half mile around me and want to have a suddned race to the death in the middle of 5pm atlanta traffic.

I guess when you work IN the industry you used to call a hobby, it no longer is a hobby. its work. I met a lot of cool people working at Mainstream and Batlground and owning Kiddracing, but that was far overshadowed by the complete and absolute morons i came in contact with. I did it for so long cars just ceased to become fun. It became a job. And when you hear some of the ignorant stupid shit that comes out of peoples mouths, you get turned off by it.

Im not arrogant im stating a fact. I believe im an educated man, im a smart person, i can argue and debate , understand issues with the best of them. When you are in contact with people you constantly have to try and teach or hold a mediocre conversation with, its pretty mind numbing.

I guess what im saying is that most people move through phases in life. They grow up, they learn from their mistakes, etc. i was probably just as stupid and dumb as a lot of the kids i make fun of, but i grew out of it. I moved on. So i dont want to associate with those people anymore, and if they are my age, then i want nothing to do with them if they still act like they are 21.

Silversol is right about the meets aspect. Honda/Acura kids breed thieves, and low lifes. its cause the cars are CHEAP to start with. anyone can buy a $2000 civic and slap a $50 fart can on it and go act a fool. Because its so cheap, theres a huge amount of them. Vettes START at $10,000+ not anyone can go buy them (although every car group has its share of retards).

It goes back to and old saying my grandfather used to say, you are who your friends are. You are the company you keep. If you associate with a bunch of riced out civics, chances are your no better than they are. That happened to me about 2 years ago, i looked at myself and realized i was "friends" with a bunch of loser, no education, rejects who were going nowhere in life, who only hung out with me because i had money. And when i say i had money i mean i had a job that paid more than minimum wage. They brought around other people that were equal as losers, who cared more about spending EVERY DIME they had on a Civic, or G35 they could barely afford, than furthering their stature in life.

Id rather have a bank account full of money and a 95 toyota camry, than be broke with a K SERIES CIVIC Y0!. I didnt always used to be that way. I used to have a $10,000 88 CRX and eat ramen noodles.

I know how you feel about just not careing, Becase I really dont anymore I drive a bone stock 2000 honda civic that is automatic its super cheap to maintain and i dont have to do anything but put gas in it. And I can park it anywhere with out worry. I still have my mustang but i have not touched it in months becase its not costing me anything to let it sit. I like to watch my bank account grow and my stock portfolio grow and work on myself and my future rather then my car. I still love to go to a classic car show becase everyone is respectful of each other. Also my classic car has gained value since i have owned it and will continue to gain value Not that i want to sell it but its almost as good as money in the bank, when I got a loan from my local bank a few years ago they had no problem useing it as colateral for my loan.

With the import crowd I sware I have never seen a group of car guys fighting to knock the value of there cars down like them. Looking at some of the post on this forum will prove that, they all think they are car apprasers and becase they saw one 2000 civic sell for 500 they are all worth that now. And the wtb threads no one want to buy car they want a perfect car as a shell and throw there swap in and go and are willling to pay up 500 whole dollars for it lol! Does it matter you just spent 800 bucks on paint and replaced all the suspension bushings? No Becase "Awww Man its just a shell doggg" I feel bad for the guys that really do have nice imports that have spent money on good high dollar stuff and have spent thousands of dollars on paint and body and a legit high dollar jdm engine swap, Just to get hounded by the kids on here Like how dare you ask top dollar for a car you selling at a loss already? Or the will you sell it as a shell Ill give you 5oo for it? When I had a car dealers licence I hated selling honda/acura cars. Becase they go for crazy money at the dealer auction and kids think they give them away at the auctions so they can low ball the hell out of you. I made more money selling pick up trucks then I ever did with hondas.

like i said, every group has its dumbasses. Look at Thacker ;)

But theres far more Honda/Acura/LOWER COST IMPORTS retards than the others. I cant tell you how many times ive driven down the highway and had some mexican or white trash kid roll up next to me in his flat black race car to "RUN ME" in bumper to bumper traffic.

I dont run across many Vette/Mustang/EVO/STI "kids" that act that retarded.

There are idiots and asshole in all "clicks" But they are few and far between compared to the imports clicks. I dont think the guy in the 69mach1 or the 68 fastback mustang is going to start cutting donuts around my car in the car shop parking lot. Im willing to bet my lunch the guy parked in front of me in the 69 camaro is not going to try to show off his drift skills in the car show parking lot. Becase they have the same respect for my car as I do for their car.

Its like Gregg that is on here parting his car out. He used to brag about how cheap it was to build his K24 EG Hatch because he wanted to argue about how awesome a bargain hunter he was. He said he had less than $5000 in his whole car (which i knew was a lie). THEN, he posts a thread parting his car out and specifically says "NO LOWBALLERS" and acts like he is insulted at people offering him little money for his parts........wait.......isnt that what HE did to other people?

The majority of kids on here have NO MONEY and they dont want to SAVE more money so they just try to haggle people to death which does drive down the price of EVERYTHING. Quality cars get lumped in with shit cars, quality parts get devalued by replicas, etc

Theres nothing wrong with paying a fair price for a quality part. Nothing wrong with negotiating, but theres a difference between being thrifty and being BROKE. Case in point i sold some MINT Rotas few weeks ago and had them listed for $250 (50% of what they go for) and they had $400 in POTENZAS on them. I had people offering me $100, or "hey will you take the tires off i need 2". really? I finally dropped them down to $100 and they sold in hours, and i STILL HAD PEOPLE LOWBALLING ME $75 for them. When is lowballing lowballing, and when is negotiating now being a dick? I dont know but i think that was pretty absurd.

I read that , that was pretty shitty. Some business decides to have an event to help the local people out and people use it to steal from them. If i was garage zero id never have another event again. Same thing happened to mainstream, we had a huge dyno day, and hid everything of value, then week later someone hopped the fence and stole $20,000 worth of stuff. BG had it happen IIRC someone stole Dan Kangs wheels off his car after a meet.

Who wants to operate with a clientele that refuses to pay your prices, wants to haggle you out of business, then rip you off when you try to do something nice?

I have yet to run into those guys in the 15 years I have been going. Once again I see that in the import world. If anything a unrestored survior muscle car will draw a crowd at a car show from alll the guys that are restoring their car to how it came from the factory, Becase alot of paint marks clips and little things that make or break a restoration is not in the books or online!

no because age doesnt always reflect maturity.

Blank.cd for all our disagreements can hold a conversation outside of "cool wheels bro". We always argue political views in the other forum, while i may disagree with him, he demonstrates he has a higher level of learning. To me at least.

I dont think anyone should segragate anyone, i just think the younger crowd needs to set their standards HIGHER. Associate with better people, quit being followers and start being leaders regardless of what other people think.

Like i said, my old roomate took a PIECE OF SHIT 1992 LS400 Lexus, slammed it on the shittiest coilovers he could find for the cheapest, bought $450 KNOCKOFF BWM wheels off ebay, and put some CHINESE tires that cost $90 a piece for 19s, and people actually thought that was "building a car" and it was "cool". most of those kids hang out at starbucks on barrett. I dont know who is worse, the guy who built the car, or the kids that think its cool.

Both show how idiotic and stupid the "scene" has become

Yeah i know that story with the wheels. I use to put shit up for stupid cheap just to get it out of my way, Im sure alot of people called me a dick and hated my guts when I would get a call from people offering 75$ for 400$ wheels I would just hang up on them, It was easy to just throw parts in it my dumbster then wait and deal with assholes to give shit away. Just like your rota wheel I know and you know it was not about the money You did not pick up a overnight crack addiction you just wanted them out of your way.

I can honestly say I've never ran across a classic car enthusiast with the attitude that mine is better because I spent more. In most cases they understand and value all the time and effort you put into your car because they themselves have done it. If a car is done right regardless of make and model appreciate it for what it is. If your car happens to be a piece if shit with a fart can and slammed on DOODOO wheels don't expect any compliments. Unfortunately this is more and more the direction the import scene is heading in which is why a lot of folks have bailed on it. When did it become cool to do this veal to your cars? At what point did we stop using proper English and complete sentences to communicate on here? Apparently I missed that particular shift in the scene. Where is the pride people used to take in doing things the right way. If your car is an extension if who you are what does yours say about you? I guess I'm just to old to understand anymore.

I think what goes on here and the typical Import Alliance meets is indicative of only a small portion of what goes on really. If I choose to hang out in a parking lot with a bunch of high schoolers and their cars, I dont expect to have a conversation about stocks, 401ks, and nest eggs. For me anyways, I go to see dumb shit and people hit poles with their cars LOL I honestly havent had time or energy on the weekends to go out though lately, but I still will go to an import meet because I have friends there and I do like seeing and talking to some of the owners of other cars. I occasionally get someone that comes up and asks about mine, thats what it really is about. Plus, I dont limit myself to this site. I hang out with the S197 (newer Mustang) guys, and most of them are about my age and if not older, quite a few of them hold jobs in law enforcement, and public safety such as firefighting, its just a matter of what group you choose to hang with, but I dont want to come on here all high and mighty and say that Im better than anyone just because they dont drive a nicer car or have the education level as someone else. At the end of the day we all can agree we love cars, boobs, and anything related to the prior.

I ran into a Lamborghini owner a while back at a caffeine and octane meet one time. We got to talking and he mentioned how alot of ricers started showing up and ruining it for all the exotic guys. I assumed he was talking about the Evos and the STIs and the S2ks and what not because I haven't been to a C/O meet and any beat up Hondas showed up. So I told him a lot of those guys put in a lot of work building those cars (regardless of what they looked like) and you kinda just wrote a fat check and got an out-of-the-box race car. Lol

Last C\O meeting I went to I saw quite a few Hondas and some other crappy stuff ... Saw a couple of real nice s2000's,STI,Evo's and a few others..

If I could drop the money on a high end, I would.... Mostly anyone would for that matter.

Mike and Travis keep adding nails to the coffin... I have a friend who's 22 has a real nice g35.. Ad I ask him if he goes to meets ? He says.. He doesn't like the crowd.. Mostly because of what has been mentioned in this thread. And he's only 22... and he sees it.

Bottom line is, if you have to attend car meets to be a car enthusiast.. I will continue to laugh at that.

I dont expect that either, but eventually, you HAVE to grow out of the "im here to see some awesome CRXs" phase dont you? I mean you went from that cougar body kitted out that we all laugh about now to a much more expensive car, and much more tasteful right? dont you agree you grew out of that phase?

dont you think that your tastes at 18 have changed 10 years later? you shouldnt be hanging out with the same crowd at 18 as when youre 30........not IMO. I get what you are saying sometimes you just have to take it for what it is, but some people also cant seperate it. I guess im one of those. I guess when i started going to meets and started going "WHY AM I HERE" is when it stopped being fun for me. I also worked IN the industry so maybe that changes things too.

I wasnt bad mouthing you or people that still go to the varsity per se, im just saying that eventually people HAVE to move on, grow up, start doing other things. or transition their tastes to something different.

For me anyways, I go to see dumb shit and people hit poles with their cars LOL

Which is fine, but i got tired of the 60000000 people showing up, not being able to park, people starting fights, guns being pulled, cops booting cars for what? So you could look at a few cars you have seen a billion times already? you may get enjoyment because you have a car people like and talk to you about, but if youre like me and just have a DD, it stopped being fun. IMO of course.

I honestly havent had time or energy on the weekends to go out though lately, but I still will go to an import meet because I have friends there and I do like seeing and talking to some of the owners of other cars.

I guess thats where i differ, i dont have any friends into cars anymore. I became friends with people that dont care about cars, but share other interests like sports and such. So i have no ties to there anymore.

Which i wasnt saying. Just because you say "the majority of the Honda?Acura/import scene has people that are of lower intelligence isnt being mean, thats just the truth. It adds up if you look at the things that Travis and i posted about. Julio said so too. you said yourself you go to meets to see the dumb shit people will do, so you kinda agree with me.

Im not being high and mighty at all , and im not only friends with people that make XXXXXX dollars or have XXXXXXX education. What i mean is, most people in life start off at PLACE A and work their way up and onward. They transition from low to high. The car scene from my experience, and many others, seems to have a certain floor when it comes to brains, and that floor is set low. As most of us get older, wiser, smarter, etc, they dont seem to follow, or a vast majority of them dont.

I tend to have friends that make the same money i do so we can enjoy the same things. when i made $XX,000 a year at Mainstream and BG i had friends that made the same amount , when i moved upward i transitioned. things change, peoples interest change.

I guess what im really starting to realize is i never really CARED about cars as much as you guys do. Im perfectly fine never modding another car again. I never cared to drag race, or track race, or auto X. Drifting was a lost sport to me. I liked street racing, but i choose not to do it because with my job my clearance could be revoked if i got arrested.

They should have kept an Archives of old threads and you can look back at your old threads or someone elses to find something or look up something. BUT THEY WERE ALL DELETED! :( now there's no OG THREADS. But I still like IA sometimes. Seems people have gotten a lil raunchy with comments and I guess everyone is bitter when it comes to anything modded between 80-2005. I guess its been done before or it just doesn't pop anymore. It's like watching alot of porn, and trying to have sex with your wife later on that day. It's kinda hard cuz she's not popping like she use too.

Whew well thats all I have. Love you guys. CLASS OF 06(sign up date for IA that is) ;)
