View Full Version : Sports Denver 2-1 with Tebow, set all time Broncos record today but.........

Tim Tebow set the all time record today for rushing yards by a Denver QB.... and then lost it kneeling at the end of the game to run the clock out.
of the 4 best rushing performances by a QB in Broncos history, Tim Tebow has 3 of them.
Despite the amazing day running the football, Tebow ends the game without a rushing TD for the first time in his NFL career.
Tebow finished todays game with a QB rating of 98.1 with 2 TD and no turnovers.
Broncos get consecutive road wins for the first time since 2009.
Amazingly...... the Broncos are only 1 game back in the division.
Pretty good day for a fullback who cant throw for shit.

still not anything to be excited about, he beat a raiders team that was missing its star running back in Mcfadden and a sloppy Carson Palmer at best.
He played a HORRIBLE first half from what i saw, but he is getting better that is for sure. However i dont think he can rush like he does against top tier teams like steelers, ravens, etc

No need to make excuses for the raiders a win is still a win. I agree he is progressing and I also agree tht imo he won't be able to run for 100+ against a tier 1 team...we saw what the lions did with their beastly d line, his o line simply is good enough ro allow him to excel more

its only an "OMG" situation because sports analyst make it seem as if he isnt fit to play flag football at the boys club.... even though he left college with a career passer rating better than Peyton Manning...... in the SEC..... with all the "raven-like" defenses.
All im saying is that the guy gets better every time he plays. Hes tough as nails and one of the hardest working and most competitive guys in the NFL. I get tired of seeing people writing him off after 5 starts when QBs like John Elway, Steve Young, Joe Montana, Peyton Manning ect ect had starts equal to or worse than Tebows.
The Broncos are also a horrible team, probably the worst team in the NFL period.... Tebow has the worst offensive line in the NFL, no WRs to throw to, no tight ends to check down to...... and hes winning games simply off being a tough SOB.

As a fellow Florida fan I saw the best in him in college, but if he doesn't find consistency in his mechanics he's fucked. He's fucked anyway because he's in Denver, it's obvious they don't really want him there anyway. I still can't believe they traded Lloyd, they could have at least had the courtesy to give Tebow a reacharound. I'm just glad I made the insane decision to start him in fantasy over Tom Brady he got me a win this week lol

LOL ya.... Tebow was like the #3 QB in fantasy.
I think consistency will come with time. He's started 6 times for the worst team in the NFL. No WR, No OL, No TEs.... he gets sacked more than any QB, not coverage sacks either, look at how many jailbreaks he has to deal with. Sadly, i dont think the Broncos will have the patience to wait for his development. The Broncos are an old school traditional team with a former QB as their VP. Tebow's days in Denver are numbered no matter how he plays.... right now i just want to see Tebow play well enough that another team decides to believe in him, because Denver does not. Elway is probably gonna trade the Bronco's soul away to land Andrew Luck, then they will be right back where they started. A team with no talent and a young QB trying to throw the ball from under a pile of defensive linemen.

i understand what you are saying, but still i cant see him being at the elite level with his really late release. It just makes it so easy to read. No GOOD team will want to pick him up as a starter because hes just not an NFL style QB. To me hes like VICK except vick has a better arm. Vick will never be (and ive said this forever) and elite level QB .
Tebow cant continue to run the option style offense in the NFL hes going to get crushed one of these days. Same problem Vick has when he runs.
Great college career doesnt mean dick in the nFL. Ask Charlie Ward.....
Id say Tebow is a 5/10, he is inconsistent, cant read defenses, isnt mobile in the pocket in passing situations, makes a ton of mistakes. hes beaten 2 mediocre teams at best. youre getting excited about him kinda beating the dolphins and the heavily wounded Oakland team (who healthy is a mediocre team). I take that back hes beaten two HORRIBLE teams.

FYI i would take Andrew Luck in COLLEGE any day over Tebow in the NFL.
And lets not pull any punches here, Denver won mostly because Oakland had 125 yards in penalties, 3 INTERCEPTIONS, and a punt return. Raiders gave that game away just as much as denver won it.

Elway had 7 TDs and 14 interceptions his rookie season, he also had 4X% completions....... Tebow is doing WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than that.
Tebow had 5 TD 3 int first season in 3 starts............. 11 TDs total.
Tebow 6 TD 1 int this season in 3 starts..................

Tom Brady didnt post a 90 passer rating until his 5th season.

yeah, thats what i hear. When Denver loses it has everything to do with Tebow, when they win he had nothing to do with it.
Tebow will probably have more wins at the end of the season than Denver has had in the last 4 seasons. Has nothing to do with Tebow's 18 TDs in 6 starts though.

First off, I'm not sure you're talking about Brady, Rodgers or Vick as none of these guys weren't mentioned in your QB comparison. I thought you comparing him to Elway, Montana, Manning and Young.
In terms of Elway, he actually has a 1% lower completion rate than Elway. But this is a moot point until the end of the season. Later, QD.

I proved my point. Elway was terrible his rookie season. Way worse than Tebow, as i stated previously.
Manning had a passer rating of 71 rookie season with 28 interceptions. Colts were 3-13
Montana posted a 8X passer ratings in each of his first 4 seasons with 9-14 interceptions in each Though i will say the most important stat of Montana's amazing career is 11 TD 0 Ints in superbowls.
you agree Young was terrible, he was 3-16 in Tampa, 11 TDs and 21 interceptions.

He's only looked poor in 1 game vs the Lions. Best Dline vs worse Oline. Every other game he looked like a decent rookie QB. The Lions game was the ONLY game of Tebow's career that he didnt have multiple touchdowns.
im not ready to put Tebow in the probowl or say hes a superbowl threat...... im just tired of a 4-20 something team acting like they want to cut a 3-3 QB with a 81 passer rating. He's better than Orton and Brady Quinn and hes the best option the Broncos have right now. Everyone wants to see Tebow cut so bad, they critique the stats so hard, point out every single flaw... discredit the wins, blame the losses...
but the fact is, Kyle Orton was 3-10 last season. Tebow is 2-1 this season and 3-3 overall. What do they expect? the Broncos are the WORST team in football. Theyre worse than the Colts, Dolphins, Rams ect....

The Broncos are 3-5, Tebow has 6 TD 1 int (in 3 games) 277 yards rushing 1 TD (only QB this season to rush for 100+ yards in a game)
Vick = $100m superstar athlete of a "dream team"

Tom Brady averaged 300+ yards per game and is still beatable. Stats dont mean THAT much, sorry. So he has a rushing TD, yay. He rushed for 100 yards....yay. hes won 2 games. I wouldnt say hes BETTER than Orton yet (although i think he will be better over time....maybe)

Vick is grossly overpaid, always has been, hes not an elite quarterback, and he will NEVER win a superbowl. The eagles will realize that next year when they tank again. Vick is a cancer.
tebow, is a mediocre quarterback right now, hes played 2 full games this season, and has played REALLY BAD FOOTBALL for the majority of those games. He has beaten no real opponent YET. No team would trade for him, or go after him if he became a free agent tomorrow. Thats fact.

yeah, i get that.... but Tebow has already matched Elways touchdowns, so unless he throws 20 interceptions in the 2nd half of the season, its pretty much a wash that he did better than Elway.

I think some teams would go after him in free agency, maybe not to fill their primary QB position, but a lot of teams would like him as a project / redzone QB. You make valid points and on some level i agree with you....
Where i dont agree with sports analyst's assessment of Tebow is that they feel its a closed case. I think more of Tebow needs to be seen before saying overwhelmingly that he is a success or failure. I cant recall any QB in the history of the NFL that was a closed case bust in 6 starts. Even the worst of the worst.......
Tebow has 18 touchdowns in 6 games.... i want to see more. I cant understand how so many people are already done with him.

I don't think he is a closed case at all, like qd said hes got more games to play. If he wins out, you gotta look at him, if he loses next 8 games he wont be starting next year. He goes 4-4 then Denver has a 7-9 season.......I think they go after another qb or they have to commit to tebow and redesign their entire offense around him.
I don't think that will happen.
I don't think anyone should write him offyet, but he doesn't show a lot of promise IMO. he's not a game changer he can't take over a game.
Elway despite his numbers was 10 times the qb, no one will argue that

If Denver goes 7-9, they should keep him. Thats major improvement for a team this bad. I dont think they would keep him even if Denver wins out......
bottom line is, John Elway is a Stanford QB....... and i dont know if you've heard or not...lol, but theres a Stanford QB in the draft. I think Elway and Fox expected Tebow to lose and are probably disappointed he's winning. Best case scenario for Elway, Tebow sucks, he gets to say i told you so and the fans shut up about it. He drafts Andrew Luck and then we have Elway overlooking another Stanford QB.
Tebow needs a Bill Walsh. Walsh loved Steve Young and saw potential in him. Completely sold into him and developed him. Tebow may not be a great QB right now, but hes not Ryan Leaf or Jamarcus Russell, hes not going to get fat, get lazy, stop working and just cash out. Tebow is the type of guy who is either gonna be a good QB or die trying. Someone out there has got to respect that and buy into him.

The context is he played 55 minutes of some of the worst football ive ever seen (i dont want to hear excuses about how bad his team is) and pulled out a win against 0-6 Miami team.
He played probably one of the WORST halves of football ive ever seen, and pulled out a win (courtesy of a punt return TD) against a Oakland team that is missing its Starting QB, and star RB.
Excuse me why i dont get too excited.

Best college football player of all time. 2 time national champion. Only sophomore heisman ever. 3 time heisman finalist. Left college with a higher QB rating than Peyton Manning and more rushing TDs than Herschel Walker. in what world does that not equal promise?
There's probably never been a college player or rookie QB in the history of football to stir up the attention that Tebow has. That's why there's a legion of critics. To act like Tebow is no big deal makes you a fool regardless of what you think of his talent.
One thing both the fans and critics have in common, they cant take their eyes off him..... i think thats also the reason most of the critics try so hard, theyre simply tired of talking about him.

there have been plenty of those, Tyler hansborough lead the ACC ALL TIME in scoring, has been less than mediocre in the NBA. Christian Laetnet was arguably the best PF in the game, was mediocre in the NBA. Ryan Leaf was a huge bust in the NFL, so was Matt Reinhart.
tebow did great things in college, but everyone knew what they were getting with him in the NFL and his scouting report has proven to be absolutely 100% correct.
Late release=too slow for the NFL. It takes him an extra 1-2 seconds to get rid of the ball, which means defenses who pressure him will keep him from reacting. Did you see any of the passes he threw sunday? he through some wounded ducks out there LOL
Im not saying he cant be succesful, but it means molding an offense around his style of play , which traditionally in the NFL DOESNT WORK (option). Sorry. youre asking a lot for someone to retool their entire offense around 1 player.
John Elway is a pretty great judge of talent, and i dont think you can compare todays league to his era. A QB rating in 1984 isnt the same as 2011. the game is much faster paced now, much more physical, much sloppier, and its TOTALLY a passers game. QBs are way more protected now (by league and refs) than in montana and elways days.
I'll take heart over mechanics any day.
Thats opinion. I dont know what you mean by it. But most teams dont draft based on the "rudy" scale.

Mediocre players in college and stuff that turned out to be great NFL players (tom Brady, although i wont say he was mediocre in college just was a bust in the nfl for 4-5 years).
Things can change, but brady had normal mechanics. he just needed a shot. tebow doesnt, his mechanics arent setup for the NFL game and its speed. If he can ADJUST then that will be great for him. but so far from whta i have watched, ive seen nothing that shows that

I agree with you. Tebow's mechanics are flawed and assuming he doesnt improve, no he cant be an NFL QB. In the NFL, 1-2 seconds added to a release is too much of a window for defenses. I understand all of that, where i disagree is that he will improve and shows enough promise for someone to believe he can improve. I dont think he will ever be Tom Brady, or at least not anytime in the near future, 10+ years from now, who knows. What i dont believe is that Tebow is going to continue working like he does and still have these flaws 3-4 years from now. It's not like Tebow is saying "im good enough now, lets go win a superbowl", his approach is "hey, i'll find a way to win some games now and in the mean time, im also working on my mechanics every day. i see what you see and im doing everything i can to fix it".
I just feel like Tebow is worth the risk.... can you imagine if Tebow became anywhere near as good as Aaron Rodgers or Brady...... He would be the biggest athlete of all time.... There's a lot of risk with Tebow, but the upside of his success is unlimited and unrivaled by probably any athlete in history. Before Tebow, people forgot the Broncos existed. Now theyre one of the hottest topics in sports news, Tebow jerseys flying off the shelves. You cant watch ESPN without hearing Tebows name. Its pretty much been that way for the last 6 years.
If i was John Elway, i would probably bite the bullet, get on TV and say "look, Tebow is our QB. Thats that, stop talking about it". Nobody is stepping in to take any of the pressure of Tebow's shoulders. He's a 24 year old guy.

lol good discussion. Im much more of a pessimist i guess than you are. For the record, i always thought they should have put Tebow in over Orton by game 2 of the season. I think Tebow should get a season to see what happens because lets face it the Broncos arent going to the superbowl much less the playoffs.
my main point is hes not for sure going to improve, Defenses that are worth a shit may actually destroy him next few games, or he may adjust and start to get better at his timing and the O Line might give him more protection. Lot of "who knows" surrounding it right now.
I think he would make a much better Tight End or some type of receiving full back, hes big, hes fast, hes got good hands etc

yeah, to me theres no doubt he has a place in the NFL. the guy is a beast, only question is will he be a quarterback.
If they take the leash off and let him finish the season, i'll judge him fairly based on a year's performance. So far the Broncos have handled their QB situation very bizarre.

You're both pretty much right. Tebow is the hardest player to predict whether or not he will find success in history. I just think his only chance is to get out of Denver and go somewhere where he won't be week to week. Look at Alex Smith, he finally got job security and he's having a great season. One of the most important factors in bringing up a QB imo is assuring them they will play every week.
