What kind of problems can I run into if the block number was filed off even though I know the block is legitimately owned and wasn't stolen

Thanks for the help

Sounds like someone was trying to hide what block it was but it still doesn't look good on your part if you plan on showing your motor off to everyone. It should also have another vin plate somewhere. If not, thats not legit.

We have the plate. Just shaved it so no one would know when we showed it off and they would ask what's under the hood

Doesn't mean its stolen. I took the plates and crap off my tranny because im a neat freak and i like a clean look. does not mean i stole it.

this is not anywhere near the same situation as a hand gun, come on man get real. i know of a few people who shaved their blocks on their b20vtec's back in the day, to appear like they have just a stock b16. which it never mattered anyway, they are all slow stock....

Its one in the same, Both are trying to conceal something that is not on the leval. I know for a fact just in gwinnett cops are checking numbers under hoods....

My first car was a civic with a gsr swap in it. It also had the block code ground off and everyone who saw it assumed the same (that it was stolen). At the end of the day you may know that it's legit, but not everyone else knows that.

try explaining it to the cops when they check - see what they say about it...

looks stolen is the main thing. you may know it's not, but they will make you prove it isn't... and that may take time and money...

i'd find a way to "replicate" the plate jsut so you don't get hastled...

No cop will pull you over and say anything about your motor. I would just tell them to prove it IS stolen. Just because somebody decides they want to do something to their own property doesn't mean they stole it. You won't have to prove its not stolen, they will have to prove it is....

But the real key to the shaved block thing is, the code on the bottom of the block. If they removed that, chances are it is stolen, lol........

you should never tell the law to prove its stolen, because they will prove its stolen and if not that they will find something to charge you with..

if its a us motor, its a felony offense to tamper with a vin tag. plain and simple. stolen or not, you can be arrested for it

And if its not?

i believe it is a felony to mess with anything that has to do with a vin.

Question................. and be honest.

Post up and tell if YOU have ever been pulled over, and the cop asked you to pop your HOOD. I assure you, there isn't 5 people on this site that its happened to. Just sounds stupid.....

And if its not?

not a us motor? its illegal to install any motor (jdm included) that wasn't originally subjected to us emissions. this is why you see so many import companies closing down / getting out of the engine import business. just ask jarco!

They are traceable at the dealer.. if some one still has there original window sticker it has the vin number/ block code on it

Last I checked, we are not a CARB regulated state so they can't write you a ticket for anything under your hood with maybe the exception of your cat missing or something of the sort.

As for the topic at hand, what are you worried about if you bought it from someone and that can be verified and you aren't trying to sell it?

why is it the NA honda guys always so obsessed with hiding their engine??? are people really kicking down your garage door trying to find out whats under the hood of your civics? i know Paul Walker did it in fast N furious, but is that a problem you're really dealing with on a day to day basis?

Technically, if you're pulled over, you don't HAVE to consent to a search, but getting cocky with a cop who already thinks you've got something going one is just plain dumb.
Imagine if you're at a show with the hood up and a cop notices it. That doesn't look good.

Not trying to be a dick, but you gotta look at it from their eyes. At least keep the plate on hand so if they ask, you can show them without a doubt that you're not up to anything shady.

first off, do whatever the hell you want to do with your car. who gives a shit what other people think?

second, you are innocent until proven guilty. If the cops feel that you stole the engine then they have the burden of proving that you did so.

SMH, obd2 have the VIN plate on the block if I'm correct, you can call the DMV and have them run the VIN. if the motor was stolen then the numbers would match up to the stolen car. if its not then its clean i suppose. obd0 and obd1 you cant really trace, unless someone is smart and they wrote down everything such as block number and their car was stolen and reported then you could be in some deep shit.

honestly you're better off buying a motor from a wreck car or salvage yard. at least they would have papers of proof you brought it after it went thru insurance. but most gsr or itr are either in someone's garage or being passed around like a whore then its stolen.

I have said this before I had a salvage licence and had access to every salvage auction in the southeast Yes I have parted them out and payed alot of them to doit. But I am always suspect when a gsr or b16 swap comes up on the boards Knowing whats avalable at the salvage auctions Integras are not new cars anymore! Most or the 94+ gsr and 99-00 si that are at the auctions 98% of them are theft recoverys striped to the bone!

They can very easily prove it is stolen once they notice the vin plate/block code has been tampered with....sadly thats the only evidence they need.

I have been pulled over in my teg plenty of times and was asked to pop my hood, I also had a jdm motor installed and they asked to see the paperwork which I keep in my glove box at all times. It is not illegal to install a jdm motor or any other motor, my grandfather is a sheriff for forsyth county and I can tell you for a fact it is completely legal to have any swap you want in your car just as long as the car is equipped with proper emissions systems, sensors, etc and if the motor was imported you need to have the paperwork with you showing proof of ownership. Anyone else that is going to negate this fact is simply ignorant.

This could not be more far from the truth...... and engine import companies are closing down because the scene is dying and the economy has shifted in a way it will never return to what it once was.

Actually, in this world, "You are Guilty until proven innocent"

This is sadly a hard fact of reality, regardless of what the law says this is the truth plain and simple
