Yeah I know I'm dumb as shit right..... I wasnt racing anyone, I wasnt showing off. I was just driving. My car has this short circut problem where my tail light fuse is burned and everytime I replace it it burns right out agian. i need some money to get it fixed and i started my job tuseday. But since that fuse is burnt my taillights dont light up at night unless I hit the brakes and my spedamoter and dash dont light up either. So I couldnt see how fast I was going. So I was going down hill and I knew I was going fast but didnt think I was anywhere near 70. Cop said he got me on his lazer going 70. He gave me my ticket and shit. Everything would be alright execpt I just turned 18 last sat and I was getting my C class tomarro but I got the ticket with my D class. Now I think im ganna get my licence taken away and I'm worried as shit. Cant tell the parents have to do everything behind thier back and I'm really fucking screwed. If anyone has any advice what so ever on how I can make my situation better and not get my licence taken away it would be GREATLY appricated.

Well two things.
One man up. YOur 18 and should be lucky your folks support you. They're going to find out either way and you'd be an idiot not to tell them.
Two, get a lawyer and hope that you can get the ticket changed to "Faulty Equipment" after all, if your crap wasn't working right, and still isn't, a trip to the dealership for some good documentation and a high bill would help you, plus taking DD would strengthen even more that you did not mean for it to happen.
Either way, you need to be up front, handle your business and try to fix the problem. Lying or deceiving isn't going to help you in the long run.
youre court date is probably a month or so from now. youve got plenty of time. thats what earns you some cool points w/ them. they see youre trying to learn from your mistakes and that its important to you to keep your license. n not only does no low make it so no points go on ur license, but it also doesnt effect your insurance...its a wonderful thing...
Either way, you need to be up front, handle your business and try to fix the problem. Lying or deceiving isn't going to help you in the long run.

Well, since you wont have a license anymore, dont worry about working.. unless your parents are going to drop you off.
And you insurance will sure as hell go up... they lock it for a rate assuming you dont do things like this.

[rant]ITS NOLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![/end rant]
Good luck, not to discourage you but I know for a fact that some cities (Union City being one and clayton county being another that I have experienced) your license WILL be taken if you are 21 and under and doing over 20mph and they will NOT allow you to plead nolo. A guy was in court one time, 18yrs old and doing 25 over. He had his lawyer and everything. They still took them. JFYI I was 26yrs (last year) doing 21 over and my ticket was $363 + driving school in Union City and I was 24yrs old in ClayCo 19 over and the ticket was $163!!!!!!!!
I would suggest doing like the others said. Try to do some community service and defensive driving classes BEFORE your court date. And try to plead 'Nolo' also like someone else said earlier, if you are on your parents insurance they will know when the insurance goes up. Might as well tell them now. Good Luck ;)

dude you aren't reading. The law in GA is if you are 21 and under while doing 24+ over, your license will be suspended. Everyone under 21 telling you about their exp. or tickets were NOT doing 24+ over. Do as stated:
*get a lawyer (if possible)
*do some community service
*do some defensive driving
*tell your parents
*and cross your fingers and say your prayers
What other advice do you need???
Oh yeah I forgot to add:
*show reciepts that say the car has been fixed.

thats not always true. yes the GA law STATES all that. however, there are times when the rules are bent a little to play in your favor. like i said before my friend (18 y/o) got pulled over for 25 over and then 2 weeks later got pulled over for 24 over which got dropped to 19 over. he went to defensive driving and i believe did some community service as well as paid a couple of nice fines, BUT still has his license. thing is that IF he gets in any more trouble until he turns 21 his license will be suspended.
but i do agree with your advice...most of all tell your parents!!! theres never a right time to do it and it might as well be sooner than later.
T-Mo Goodie
04-04-2005, 01:25 AM

I used to work for Gwinn. Co. Sheriff's Dept. and I used to live in Kennasaw.... plus, I have lost my lic. TWICE.
First of all, the law on this states that any person under the age of 21 that recieve's a speeding ticket for 24 or more mlies per hour over the speed limit will automatically lose their lic. for 6 months, and will be required to take a "RISK REDUCTION(defensive driving)" class (6 hours, $75) AND pay $210(first revoke charge) in fines to have it reinstated before you can apply for a lic. again.
**UNLESS you are over 21 by the time you go to court, then they make you pay a fine and you get points on your lic.**
*When you do go to get your lic. back you have to retake the written and driver's tests again and you will have 4 points on your lic. (all points get cleared when you become 21 years old)
**The law about 18 years is that if you get more than 4 points on your lic. before you turn 18 you lose your lic. for 6 months.
Unfortunatly you live in Kennasaw, and the cops there....... suck a$$! They are hard a$$es to the core, and don't give anyone a break......they arrested one of my friends because of a burned out tag light, that turned out to be shorted. I got a ticket in Ackworth for not parking with in 2 feet of a curb..... when I wasn't even parked.
I have had 15 speeding tickets and have now had my lic. suspended for a total of 2 1/2 years... no loke. LOST OF SPEEDING, ROASTING MY TIRES, AND RACING. I learned the hard way, and it sucked... going into those courtrooms and then coming out, totally in disbelief about what happened.
TELL YOUR PARENTS! If you don't tell them soon, when you do get your lic. back.... (if they take you to get it) YOU WONT HAVE A CAR! You wont have a dam thing handed to you ever again.... been there too. The worst they can do to you is ground you.... face it without a lic. .... you basically will be anyways.
Face it dude, your money, lic. and car AND job.... gone.....
TOTAL, you'll be paing:
$200-300+ just for the actual fine for the ticket
$75 Risk Reduction class
$210 Reinstatement fees
$30+/- for the actual testing
Something else you are about to hear.... I have heard it a hundred times over....
Havin' a lic. is a privilage not a right!
TELLING THE TRUTH SO YOU ARE READY!
GOOD LORD!!!! thats amazing, LOL!! tell me next, tell me next!!! 18 y/o pulled over by gwinnett county for goin 55 in a 35, it was over near the GCPD and jail.

You would think that everyone here is a licensed attorney. The fact remains that the solicitor and/or judge will make the final decision. There is no "sure fire" way of avoiding this (unlike what others have said in this thread). It is that simple.
This is the BEST advice in the thread:

How old are you now? Up until a few years ago, they didn't have D permits for people under 18 and such. Everyone got a "C" permit when I was 16, not "D" like they do now. Also, the laws changed for people under 18 and 21, for that matter (in respect to driving laws).

I'm almost positive you can't, even if he had a b-day before the court date. oh yeah, you can only plead Nolo once every 5 years too.
I got busted going 124 in a 65 when I was 18...GSP on Hwy. 400. I had let off and was coasting when I saw the blue lights coming over the horizon behind me and I was going well over 100 still. He saw my climbing gear in the back, we chatted for a while about places in the area to climb and rappel...which was interesting bc he was a relatively large black man...anyways, he wrote me up for 90 in a 65. 1 week later I called him up and asked him what I needed to do to get him to lower it to 88 so i could keep my license. He simply said just do whatever the judge tells you to do. Two weeks before my court date I went and saw the judge and she told me the state no longer offered defensive driving courses so I was sent to DUI school instead.... $75 for the class and $91 for the ticket. State Farm said your first speeding ticket won't affect the rate but you don't even want to think about getting a second one.
Last week was the first time in 6 years I've been pulled over for speeding (absolutely amazing huh?), funny thing was it was a GSP on 400 again, but i sure got lucky that day.

Damn I wish I were that lucky. I got pulled over and gave the yes sir's and no sir's and he told me I was lucky he didnt arrest me.
But I talked to a cop and he said to take a defensive driving class, get my C licence ASAP, and beg like a bitch for mercy....
After 24 hours of thinking about this shit and feeling bad as shit im feeling better fact of the matter is I was speeding and I got what i deserved. even though i really didnt realize I was going 70. Hopefully the judge will have mercy but most likely not... and my licence will prob get suspened.. andyone know the charge for driving with a suspened licence? cuz thats proply what ill be doing till december.....

I didn't read the thread because it was long.
So this was probably posted before.
You have no excuses for speeding, so don't go that route.
Also, you do need to do some community service to show you aren't a bad guy.
3rdly, the judge does not have to accept your plea of no-lo so don't put all your hope on that.
4thly, your fine is going to be expensive as fuck, esp in kennesaw. Tell your parents, they will need to know.
5thy, hahaha, you are fucked.

Don't be more retarded.

i didnt know you could go in advance...cool i might just do that. the officer that pulled me over said the same thing though. just do whatever youre told.

i didnt know you could go in advance...cool i might just do that. the officer that pulled me over said the same thing though. just do whatever youre told. That was in Dawson Co. though and they don't have much going on up there...you should be able to call up one of the solicitors and see what they can do for you, I seriously doubt you'll ever get a chance to talk to a judge beforehand.
If you show them you're trying to take care of this before the court date and ask them what you need to do (what would be in your best interest) then they may be willing to help alot more than that 5 minutes before you're supposed to be standing in front of the judge.

If you are stupid enough to even say before you go to court that you will be driving with a susp. license till december, I'd like to go back and delete everything I said.
Clearly you are a moron who doesn't understand the bigger picture. I'd just not even go to court if I was you... I'd drink and drive, use and sell drugs... do whatever the hell you want... because you clearly are too dumb to understand the difference between right and wrong.
Hope you dont kill anyone later on down the road.

he has a point....you just need to tell ya parents and find out how to get a ride while its suspened....if you get caught with a suspened liscense while driving...you'll defintly be going to jail and losin ya liscense even longer.....just think about everything you need to do....and talk to ya parents, counslor whoever.....ya parents will defintly find out once your in jail caught with no liscense...and i gurantee that will be worse then what it would be now

When I got my one and only speeding ticket I was in the process of searching for a new car and was looking for the cheapest place for full coverage insurance on a 300zx...i called geico and progressive and nearly every ghetto co. that claimed they were the cheapest but once I told them about the ticket it they were all wanting $5-6,000 per year for an N/A, never bothered getting quotes for a TT. Needless to say, i stayed with the State Farm because the first ticket doesn't count and only got liability on the 300zx I bought. My liabilty rates actually dropped a few dollars a month when I switched from the 1st gen integra to Z32 because it had "automatic" seatbelts....went from a car that was $14,900 new to a $37,900 300zx with 106 more hp and my insurance was less...interesting.

I dont mind paying a fine and my insurance going up I just need my license. I have no other way to work. I get off school at 3:30 and have to be at work in marietta at 4. so thers no way unless I drive. Hope the judge understands. Im neverous and hell though I've never been in court...

The laws were a lot different when I was your age, as Ruiner was pointing out. Now they are way more restrictive, which is good IMO, with drivers under 21.
It's been said like 5 billion times in this thread, but I'll say it anyway. The biggest mistake you are making, besides the one that got you in the situation, is NOT TELLING YOUR PARENTS. As a parent, I can tell you that one of the biggest factors in raising children is trust. If your parents can't trust you, then you will have a very difficult road ahead. Your parents should be your biggest ally, not your enemy. Strict or not. I had the world's most strict parents. I was also the black sheep in my family. I gave my parents so much unnecessary hell, for which I'm gonna one day feel the pain myself now that I'm a parent myself. To be honest, I'm very glad my parents were strict with us because otherwise I'd probably be six feet under now myself. I totally see their view now with my own two children.
I got a 90 in a 55 on 316 when I was 16 yrs. old. L'ville police is not the most lenient dept around either. I had my license suspended for the first time then. Big fine and I borrowed the money to pay that. All the while I kept it from my parents. Carried that damn ticket to bed with me for freaking month. One day, I accidentally left it on my desk when I went to take a shower. When I got out, my dad was standing there reading the ticket. Needless to say, I got into trouble. Even more humiliating, my YOUNGER brother had to drive ME to prom that year because my license was suspended. That was humiliating.
I had my license suspended once more after that for points (all speeding). I never lied to my parents again about it though. I got in tons of trouble and had my car taken several times. I had to suck it up and take it like a man since I thought it was cool to have a Camaro and go triple digits everywhere I went.
Point? 1. Once you become an adult and pay for your own way, you'll realize why your parents would be pissed if your insurance suddenly doubled or tripled for something YOU didn't do. 2. You need to own up to what you did and take your medicine. By hiding it, you're only prolonging the inevitable. 3. LEARN from the screw up. It could have been worse, but more importantly it could have been avoided all together.
Good luck in court.

Under the age of 18 Nolo...is basically pointless I got a ticket for going 35 over and a wreckless driving ticket in gwinnett county when I was 16. The Judge told me flat out well Nolo at your age isnt going to help. He said generally that only does something if your atleast 18....but even yet then it doesnt do much it really helps when your 21.
But you do have chances of keeping you license...it is true judges love seeing that your trying to fix the mistake you made. So I would def go get your new provisional license. You can say you had jst recently turned 18 and were fixing to go get your new license very soon. A class before your court date would be smart. But 25 over...thats really not that bad at all. But it all depends on how much the judge likes you. And generally when you go into court and show them that your sorry and are willing to pay the price they will give you a reduction. Generally the reduction is not more then 10 mph-but that would knock you down to 15 which would help you greatly cause if your 18 and they accept your new license anything under 24 over at 18 technically you can jst pay off and not even come to court. BUT then of course that jst means you plead gulity and took the points or whatever and its on your record. 14 and under at the age of 18 you can simply pay off also but that is not put on to your record. Now I dont know if the rules are any different in Kennesaw cause the knowledge I have is from going to court in gwinnet and dekalb....Good Luck though. Maybe you'll be another lucky one who keeps his license. I mean my friend got a 39 over ticket in Dekalb at 16 and kept his license.........lol but that wasnt lucky I think that was up there with a miracle.

dude you should of just gotten a lawyer and like everyone else said, told your parents. i had a friend who was 110 in a 65 and got out of the ticket with a good lawyer, which is the one i'm using right now. a good lawyer would be able to get you out. as my lawyer told me 2 days ago, he knows a bunch of kids with clean ass records, not a damn thing on them, but they have a shit load more tickets than i do (i have 3 by the way), all because they got a lawyer. he also told me that its not good to just pay your fine for whatever ticket you get because it will go on your record and 1. you could lose your license b/c of points 2. whenever you go to fight some kind of traffic violation, it is better to have a clean record, which a lawyer can you achieve. good luck dude b/c i'm in the same situation you are. i got arrested last friday for speeding and something else that i won't mention that was total bullshit, but obviously my parents know and were cool about it and i got me a lawyer ASAP
**edit: BTW you cant plead nolo if your 16, they won't let you do it, it's not an option (i know you said your 18)

Whats up bro. Just thought I would lend my 2 cents. First off, tell your parents. IF you car is having that many problems they may be more compasionate and even help you fix your car so it doesnt happen again. Plus, IF you do lose your license then you will have to explain that to your parents and you will be in deeper. All that aside, let me fill you in on the law. Some judges are more leniate then others and will cut you a break, but it is strictly at the judge discretion. Make this website your best friend: http://www.legis.state.ga.us/cgi-bin/gl_codes_detail.pl?code=40-1-1 That is the entire Georgia law. You can even look up your offence number there if ya want. Now in your case this is the law, remember the judgement is at the judges discreation. Here is the law:
Licensing Action:
Type of Licensing Action (Susp/Rev):
Suspension via the Point System(7) §40-5-57

Therefore, the department is authorized to suspend the license of a driver without a preliminary hearing upon a showing by the records of the department or other sufficient evidence that the licensee is a habitually dangerous or negligent driver of a motor vehicle, such fact being established by the point system in subsection (b) of this Code section.
(b) For the purpose of identifying habitually dangerous or negligent drivers and habitual or frequent violators of traffic regulations governing the movement of vehicles, the department shall assess points, as provided in subsection (c) of this Code section, for convictions of violations of the provisions of Chapter 6 of this title, of violations of lawful ordinances adopted by local authorities regulating the operation of motor vehicles, and of offenses committed in other states which if committed in this state would be grounds for such assessment. Notice of each assessment of points may be given, but the absence of notice shall not affect any suspension made pursuant to this Code section. No points shall be assessed for violating a provision of state law or municipal ordinance regulating standing, parking, equipment, size, and weight. The department is required to suspend the license of a driver, without preliminary hearing, when his driving record identifies him as a habitually dangerous or negligent driver or as a habitual or frequent violator under this subsection.

2 points
Violation of child safety restraint requirements, first offense 1 point
Violation of child safety restraint requirements, second or subsequent offense

All other moving traffic violations which are not speed limit violations 3 points
(B) The commissioner shall suspend the driverīs license of any person who has accumulated a violation point count of 15 or more points in any consecutive 24 month period, as measured from the dates of previous arrests for which convictions were obtained to the date of the most current arrest for which a conviction is obtained. A second or subsequent plea of nolo contendere, within the preceding five years, as measured from the dates of previous arrests for which pleas of nolo contendere were accepted to the date of the most current arrest for which a plea of nolo contendere is accepted, to a charge of committing an offense listed in this subsection shall be considered a conviction for the purposes of this Code section. At the end of the period of suspension, the violation point count shall be reduced to zero points.
(C) A court may order a person to attend a driver improvement course for any violation for which points are assessed against a driverīs license under this subsection or may accept the attendance by a person at a driver improvement clinic after the issuance of a citation for such offense and prior to such personīs appearance before the court, in which event the court shall reduce the fine assessed against such person by 20 percent, and no points shall be assessed by the department against such driver. The disposition and court order shall be reported to the department and shall be placed on the motor vehicle record with a zero point count. This plea may be accepted by the court once every five years as measured from date of arrest to date of arrest.
(2) Any points assessed against an individual for exceeding the speed limit shall be deducted from that individualīs accumulated violation point count and the uniform traffic citation issued therefor shall be removed from the individualīs record if:
(A) The points were assessed based on the use of a radar speed detection device by a county or municipality during a period of time when the commissioner has determined that such county or municipality was operating a radar speed detection device in violation of Chapter 14 of this title, relating to the use of radar speed detection devices; and
(B) The commissioner has suspended or revoked the radar speed detection device permit of such county or municipality pursuant to Code Section 40-14-11.
(d) Any person who has such points assessed against him as to require the suspension of his license pursuant to subsection (a) or (b) of this Code section shall have his license suspended as follows:
(1) Upon a first assessment of the requisite points, the period of suspension shall be one year, provided that at any time after completion of the requirements set forth in Code Section 40-5-84, such person may apply to the department for the return of his license;
(2) For a second assessment of the requisite points within five years, as measured from the dates of previous arrests for which convictions were obtained to the date of the most current arrest for which a conviction is obtained, the period of suspension shall be three years, provided that at any time after completion of the requirements set forth in Code Section 40-5-84, such person may apply to the department for the return of his license; and

Seriously youre all good, Same shit happened to me more that I can count. First off you have to go change your license asap and show that when you go to court. Also you HAVE TO take the Defensive driving course which is like 2 days BEFORE you go to court. If you go take Defensive Driving before hand and take the papers into ct the judge loves that and will deduct ur ticket right there. I've had a million tickets and the last one I had was 97 in a 55 and I was alll goood. Promise but if you want you can call my lawyer up and he'll give you advice & let you know what the best thing for you is. His name is Ben Smith & his # is 770- 218- 8859

Went to court a week early. I have finals next week and I went today and ask for it to be moved to today. Not complaining because I deserve it basicaly I'm screwed. EVERYONE under the age of 21 will have ther licence revoked if caught speeding over 23 mph no exceptions. Courts are serious about this the govener has written letters to evey judge in the state of Georgia an wants no exceptions. I went in today and they reset my court date for June 14th. I have to come back with a lawyer. I'm also facing anywhere from 2-10 days in jail (unbeliveable). And I was only going 25 over (yeah I know 25 over is a lot but people do much worst). So if your under 21 and you speed your screwed unless you get a damn good laywer. Heres some info I found out today to if anyone else needs it. You may only pled nolo if your over the age of 21 and may only use it once every 5 years. It also can only be use for one ticket if you get multiple tickets at once your screwed. Anyone under the age of 18 that has more than 4 points on thier licence it will be revoked. Anyone under the age of 21 that gets more than 4 points in a 2 year period will have thier licence taken away. Dont be stupid drive safe or learn the hard way like I'm going to have to... Anyone have the # of a lawyer thats not etremly expensive it will be GEATLY appricated.

^^dude looks like i'll be seeing you in court b/c i have court that same day...yea all that information they told you is what is SUPPOSED to be done...but how many times does that happen...i've had a bunch of friends that have had tickets doing well over 25 over (had a friend doing 110 in a 65, and got out of it)...like my lawyer told me, it all depends in the mood that the prosecutor and judge are in that day...good luck dude

I'm not sure abt Kennesaw but in Gwinnett you can plead nolo even if u are under 21.
A yr and half ago I got a ticket doing 74 in a 55 mph.Went to court for it.Talk to the solicitor* spelling, and she said that since my driving record is good, she's gonna drop it to 68-55. I have to do 16 hrs community service and DD. I plead nolo on that case and has no points taken, but the bad news is that when you go and look for employment which require a good MVR, Your points do not matter. What they see is what is written on the driving record not based on yourt point.
So if u are speeding only 10 mph above the posted speed limit, u are still consider speeding.Hell even if u ran a traffic light it will still affect your records.
Good luck and learn our lesson.Rememember your driving records is very crucial these days esp if u wanna get employed.

Yeah I dont know about other cities but in Kennesaw/Acworth you must be 21 to plead nolo. Anyone got a number for a lawyer that could help me reduce my ticket by 2mph?
